I had the same reaction when I listened to this masterpiece for the first time. This gave me goosebumps . You can’t stop yourself from crying especially if you understand the lyrics.

If you watch before the video of this song. There are details in videos that you might have missed. The guy is trying to protect memories. While the girl keeps watching the moon trying to reach it but she never can. It related to the sad Pakistani stories of nightingale and an asian bird. There are also sprouts of vegetation in the last portion which might grow or not. It represents their relationship that just started.
You felt those emotions that someone just died bcoz he, the male actually wrote this song when one of his dear ones left this world. He told that he wrote this song after that person's demise. And that's why you can actually feel that heart break in this song. And i m soo sorry for the loss you experienced. It is definitely irreparable. May Allah SWT give you patience. You must have watched with captions turned on because as beautiful as the performance and vocals were, its the Urdu poetry and lyrics that are killer. Mehram can be anyone you are very close to whether they be your parent, sibling, close friend or your spouse. We all know what it feels like when we lose a mehram and if we don't know, we will one day. Simply cannot escape that reality in life. Like you I have lost my brother and my father in very untimely manner. I am so sorry for your loss.

took me a while to write this... so I'd appreciate if Ya'll read this.. it will help with understanding the song better.
Here's a more alternative and more literal translation of the lyrics from urdu to english.. and might be interesting for you to follow and check along..
Most lyrics on the original are transliterated.. not translated.. which means some meaning is added to make more context for western audience.. but I feel like the direct literal translation can also make a lot of sense, and here's my attempt to put things into context for you.
I will let the word Mehram remain as it is.... Many other explanations have been given about this word but this is a very very significant word... Mehram can be a brother, father, or your husband if you are a female.. and sister, mother or wife if you are a male. It's generally a word describes your access to the opposite gender. That's not a great definition but a grounding one at best.
Your wife becomes your Mehram when you marry... once you divorce.. she becomes Na-Mehram for you.. and same goes for the wife... The husband becomes Na-Mehram.. now the cultural significance of this might be lost on a western audience who does not understand the concept of the Muslim veil ( purdah ) specially from a Pakistani perspective. but if you read up on it, you'll find it's a very loaded term with a deep meaning..

The above two lines are sort of spoken in passive... you could read it as.. we chose a darkness that couldn't pass in many lifetimes basically talking about the pain of loss of a loved one.. and this passing is implied as not one from death but also be a situation of divorce.. because your wife stops being your mehram and you are not allowed to see, interact or be intimate, they wear a veil when they meet you.. and you can't see them unveiled.. ( important cultural context here ) basically talking about the pain of loss of closeness and intimacy that you have with a life partner.

As a Pakistani who doesn’t speak Urdu very well I thought I was going mad when I read the lyrics on the coke studio version. You’ve just confirmed I understood most of it correctly. The only line I heard/understood differently was the line ‘dil ka makaan na raha’ as the (my) heart no longer has a home. Or that the hearts home is gone. I took this as their hearts had made a home in each others but the arguments and harsh words has evicted them. He no longer resides in hers and she no longer in his. Maybe that’s what you were saying too but I couldn’t tell.
