    â„čAbout the episode:
This week on KYD we attend the Grand Design Rally at the Elkhart Fairgrounds. We were there with 998 other Grand Design RVers and 63% of the attendees were first-timers, just like us! We've never attended a rally before, but we can see why RVers like it so much. Great people, direct communication with the manufacturer, vendors and a great opportunity to take care of warranty work with two mobile tech's working sunrise to sunset each day.
In this episode, we made a mistake with our Lippert auto-leveling system. We share these mistakes so you can avoid them!

Keep Your Daydream, years ago when I arrived at work with our new 2012 Ford F-250 Diesel King Ranch the head of maintenance came out and was saying how nice the truck looked, etc. he then asked what kind of puppy I picked out at the dealer. I gave him a strange looked and he then explained that Ford always give a new puppy with their new trucks... that way you have some company when you break down. 😂😂

      Keep Your Daydream Truck Joke....sure
The latest feature on the new 2020 Ford Super Duty is a heated tailgate, it keeps your hands warm when you are pushing it through the snow.
The last 10 pages on the Ram owner’s manual list repair shop and rental car agencies addresses and phone numbers.
GM trucks are some of the safest trucks on the road, the reason is that they are usually being towed by a tow truck so the tow truck take the brunt of the impact.

I thought your impromptu tow vehicle analysis was interesting and not typically what I see. I live in horse country in Aiken SC so my tow truck decision was based on similar observation. I observed that the horse people pulled their horse trailers with mostly Ford or Dodge/Ram trucks. I saw very few Chevy trucks and a few more GMC trucks. So I concluded that those two brands were the ones to look for as a tow vehicle. If the horse people used them for their expensive horses they would be good enough for me. I ended up with a Dodge 2500 mainly because it was less expensive. Love your channel keep up the good videos!

Hello KYD go to a Caterpillar dealer and get 1U9891 hydraulic oil additive. I’ve been working on hydraulic systems for 40 years and been working with Caterpillar for 30. This additive works great. Not snake oil. Helps your cylinders move in and out when side loaded from unlevel terrain.

About the wheels off the ground, when I started working as an RV technician I helped prep new units straight from the manufacturer. We check everything to try to find as much wrong before it's sold, including everything that goes through the 7-way connector to be sure it's safe to drive. I asked someone what do you do when auto leveling and the wheels lift off the ground. He said, "Check the brakes before it goes back down!"

As a person that does a lot of boondocking, always, always, always block it level as much as possible. Also keep some large blocks to put under stabilizer legs. The farther extended they are, the less stable they are.

Sorry to see the panic, but boy do I feel good that I'm not the only one! :) I'm really glad it worked out and nothing was damaged! This exact situation happened to my wife and I; I had the wheel blocks in (we use the ones that crank down and apply force between the tires) and started leveling the rig when all of a sudden the entire thing started rolling downhill, stabilizers sliding across the ground making a terrible noise. I was standing there in utter shock watching it roll away - I thought we had lost the trailer for sure. Somehow it finally stopped and we got it hooked back up to the truck and put into a better spot. Nowadays I use *both* kind of wheel chocks, the ones that block the wheels on the ground and also the ones that go between the tires. Oh the stories we can tell from experience on the road... Thanks for the video!

We have auto level on our Newmar. Not a fan always raises the coach too much. We level as much as we can with Hosspads under tires first then manual level with hydraulic jacks. It allows us to extend the jacks way less. Takes an extra few minutes, but it’s better overall.

Whoo yeah, off the ground, we learned that one too. Luckily we didn't move. I walked by and thought gee those tires don't look like they're on the ground.... give a push.... oh MY GOSH... they spin. Talk about freaking out. If that had rolled it would have gone right into Lake Superior. We put those stick-on levels on the front, just jump out of the truck see how far off we are and if we can put in in a different spot on the site to get level or get the ole Lynx levelers out and throw a row or two under the tires always be for hitting that auto level. RVing where even something you've done 1000 times before can come up and get ya one day. Always something new to learn. Happy trails!

Did the board thing for years to level side to side. With the triple axle it's a pain because not only is the board like 8' long to store/handle, but you have to pull up 10'. It's hard to judge the angle the trailer will turn over 10' if your truck isn't straight and we'd always end up with the back tires not centered on the board. Now we just use levelers. Pull up 8 inches instead and place 1 or 3 levelers behind each tire then back up 8 inches. Keeps you out of the roadway most of the time too. Plus levelers are cheap, light and take up less space. Although I'll admit we bought the cheap yellow ones and the heavy rig smashes them up a bit in rocks.

I like to have the least amount of jack sticking out seems to make it more stable ( to me maybe just in my head ). it also seems to not slide on the wood i do not use the plastic snap pads. The more of what i am trying to say is for me i try to keep the least amount of landing or stabilizing jack out as possible.

Glad no damage was done with the leveling stuff. People are passionate about their trucks. lol We are Ford people, my late husband used to tease my brother when he pulled in our driveway with his Chevy truck telling him to get that Chevy out of his driveway. lol What ever truck one likes, there is a joke for it I'm sure. Loved the video and learning about cleaning the hot water tank. Who knew-I guess RV'ers know. I learn so much from all even though I don't own an RV. Hugs, Brenda

As a rule of thumb - what should of been done when you backed in the first time was do whats called a dry stance before hitting the auto level of your jacks - see how much out of level you are and shore your rig on wood planks as you did the second go around so your chassis of the rig takes the brunt of the weight and not your jacks. remember G O A L get out and look - You were lucky this time and hopefully no damage...
