- This is the short video edit of me making a 12mm boring bar holder. I also made a long version. And this is a experiment to find out what works better on CZcams, long spoken or short unspoken videos. I'm using a similar title, thumbnail and descriptions and both versions will be released to the public at the same time.

b.t.w. I have used that gold DCMT insert from Banggood on a few other turning jobs. And so far so good. Kinda surprising for those cheap thingies. Not a lot of commission on those :)

Filing and honing, LOVE it.
I liked both videos. I prefer the shorter length, but enjoy your narration. You should make videos the way you want. Keep up the good work.
I have been doing metal workshop work for ten years, and i can see i'm still learning.
Ótimo vídeo!
I think I like the videos with the funny and crude comments over the silent ones, that's what Ive been mainly wanting to see more than anything, lol.
Thanks Chirpy. I also like longer spoken format, but YT clearly prefers the short one. It send out a lot more notifications for the short version. The way the notification system works is flawed and it give youtube a certain control they should not have I think.
that's why you only upload the long one, then CZcams can't choose the shorter one, lol.
Agreed him talking and the somewhat serious but funny crudness is one of the reasons I love this channel

Looks good
I like this please keep it.
thank you for sharing the job with us, just I wanna say that measuring devices are only for measuring not for marking, scratching the tip of caliper on piece surface made me pain, also reaming has to be slow speed, you'd finally want really straight and lined up tunnel not to end up with broken tungsten carbide piece of reamer in your machined part
Uma das coisas que aprendi a não usar o paquímetro como riscador!
Fabulous example of using limited resources to make something useful.
I feel cheated that CZcams did not flag your channel a lot sooner.

Great video. Subscribed to your channel
Profesional 👍
You're getting good at making those.
Thanks :) I actually made another on for the black lathe :) I even shot some experimental video. In case you are really bored: czcams.com/video/F-X1QmpAlag/video.html
Hi RM. This version is fine but I like to hear you talking better. Keep the videos coming. All my best. L,S,A,P too : )
А станочек самодельный? Спасибо! Хорошая работа.
Nós dó canal ferreira motos estamos acompanhando tudo. TORNO CASEIRO 👍👍👍👍🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🤝
You're killing that reamer. Usually reamers should be run at 10-15% of drill speed, not as fast as you're doing. At that speed not only you're destroying tje rramer but the hole will be waaaay oversized.
Feed back :)
Looks like you did a nice job. You should go into boring bar production!
It looked to me like the tool was still quite a bit off centre. This is really important.
The lathe is probably an exact measurement from the top of the bed to the centre of the spindle.
My lathe is exactly 5 inches which makes sense being a 10” swing lathe. I just measure the tool with a ruler.
You also set your bar to be perfectly flat on the surface where the set screws go.
Then mill off the bottom of the boring bar holder to get your exact centre height.
Turing the tool on its axis will change the manufacturer designed angles built into the tip.
If it’s low you will get less rake. To high you will have no front clearance and it will either cut like shit or not at all.
If you make the bar level then mill the base you can drop it back on the lathe on centre exactly every time.
Centre height is essential.
Your right about the stick out. Always make it as short as you can especially on older machines (like ours) ;)
I made a new cross feed nut for my old lathe today. The old one had over 1/3 turn backlash.
The new one is better than I was expecting at just a couple of thou. Wish I had time to make videos.
I don't think 1 degree of rotation would matter much.
But in the video I might have had it set a little too high. That stuff was turning terrible and sounded horrible.
But that lathe has a bit of a chatter problem.
I once had an old German Fischer lathe and it had an impressive amount if back lash.
Here's a picture of the nut just for fun: bit.ly/2kWCoRi
I see you watched the short version did youtube also showy you the long spoken version?
A little high could make a huge difference.
Think about an external turning tool making a facing cut and what that does to the cutting edge and the first part of the tool that contacts the work piece.
It’s below the sharp bit and your tool is suddenly a rubbing tool.
All this stuff effects the cutting action and all away from optimal.
CZcams didn’t offer me the long version. Only the short version was in my inbox subscription list thing.
I’ll go find it. :)
bravissimo 👍
That sound it's because the tool it's no cutting. The edge must be down. Sorry my English. Greetings

👏👏👏👏 muito bom!!! Mas na última operação você esqueceu de lubrificar o guerreiro!!!
You are using the machine in a fabolous way.
Pero para tornos convencionales
No sirve
I hate when some people use the caliper as a scrash marker ,that is a presision measure tool and is a quite delicate ,do that is like use a pistola as a hamer , but in general good work.
I think you should look where the noise from the facemill is coming from, it just doesnt seem right.
I have a crashed face mill with just 2 inserts and the sound and chips coming from it are consistent. Maybe try a bit higher rpm also.
Great video othervise.
The belt is making a bit of a sagging noise. Bit other then that I did not notice anything strange.
@Richies Restorations its were the tapped hole is that determines where the cutter is if you machine the picked it will just give space for it to work loose with movement
Super
If you haven't worked this out yet(or remembered it again from 45 years ago like me), there are 4 ways to use callipers, 5 if you use the 4th to scribe alongside on your workpiece.
Which may settle the peanut gallery outraged by your tool usage czcams.com/video/QlG6Qx5gmGM/video.html
The best part about using the calliper's top end as a slide for your scribe is that this is the only section of a calliper that can be re-machined without affecting the measurement points.
Best
I like this style without talking sometimes as it let's the viewer guess your net move but I prefer you talking.
Thanks. That's a smart reason in favour of the short video.
It's not noise, it's music!
Uy !! Vibra un buen
Metes, sacas..que tanta vaina ?.
👍
Good job. Cool that you're A/B testing different kinds of vids! Feel free to put your homemade tool videos on our forum if you like :)
Not sure if it is cool. Probably a bit on an unhealthy obsession :)
Probably the longer ones with talking . Cheers .
YT has clearly chosen for the short version. View numbers shot up to over 500 in the last hour. Why, no idea. But a lot of uninterested viewer will be lured in watching my mediocre video and the average view time will drop like a stone. some might actually subscribe most will move on to something better. I don't really like the workings of YT. But I'll take the win :)
Wow nice guys
I watching video from cebu
Thanks for watching
👌👌
Parabéns usar instrumento de medição para traçar peça ! E eu assistindo essa coisa errada .
Hi, your clamping is not ok. The height of the clamp on the side of the workpiece must be lower than opposite. Otherwise the workpiece is moved by the clamp.
I agree, I often see that and think gee that is close to flat. I watch through my fingers sometimes and hope the piece doesn’t come out :)
Adding something I didn't mention in my voting comment: The short version came up on my feed while the long version did not. That's an unfair bias to the sucky short version! I want to feel like I'm there hanging out rather than peeking through a window thinking "WTF is he doing THAT for?" However, without a wider range of projects or machines to play on I don't think your numbers will rise like a Joe Pi or Abom. Home machining has a limited interest pool. If you want numbers you need to blow stuff up or give fashion tips to teenagers.
Hi Eddie. I also noticed that. The YT algorithm seems to have picked it's favourite :)
Currently the short version is #1 in the list of my last 10 videos and the long version is #10
We'll see where this ends.
I don't expect to ever beat the big boys. But I do like to earn enough to buy myself a little milling machine.
I do like the explosion idea :)

We need to hear you..
And you will, from time to time :)
Hum!!!!!
Osame
just get yourself a wedge style qctp :) makes your life so much easier :)
I just bought one for my Chinese lathe. It's ok'ish

Лучше, когда развертка жёстко не закреплена, а имеет некоторую свободу. Лайк!
Судя по звуку, результат не удовлетворительный. Не должно быть высокочастотных колебаний. Резцу очень не хватает жёсткости.
Pffffff..!!
