4+ Years ago, I thought it'd be cool to have an Elementalist spec called Archon, where they go into Archon mode (similar to Starcraft's high barrier low hp unit) and a mix of (Avatar The Last Airbender's 'Avatar state'). It would utilize focus in Main hand, and Shield in off-hands andd would be a TANK SUPPORT!! You'd be able to get more barrier by Air/Earth, instead of common Water/Earth support or Fire/Air - Fire/Earth common builds. Instead of healing, you'd provide more barrier to allies and boons which heals them while both are active for an amount. I have a whole idea of Ele Archon that I was so disappointed when I saw Hammer.. I quit the ele to go back to Engineer.
Honestly this would make me wanna play elementalist again! I tried it wanting that Avatar vibe, but with all the weapons, it just felt like swapping between ice wizard mode & fiery fighter mode. It's still really fun, but not what I was hoping for ig. 😅
There even was a profession in Guild Wars 1 that used throwing spears called the Paragon. However, I haven't reached/experienced Path of Fire expansion's story which is supposed to deal with the group that profession is based of (Sunspears) so I don't know if there's any story based roadblocks to implementing this weapon style.
It would be cool if they added Martial Arts and you could get different effects depending on wraps you got :) . Though it would be cool to have thrown weapons like ninja stars
Fist weapons are my fave out of that bunch, especially since i play daredevil, but whips would be the most interesting, especially if you made them midrange weapons and gave them more reach than your conventional melee weapons, something like 400-600 range

On the one hand, land spear/polearm makes sense, especially with how irl polearms were the main weapon for medieval armies. On the other hand, I don't know how they'll be able to flavor it other than making it essentially the daredevils staff. Whips would actually feel pretty unique, and I could see them being able to design different feeling whip skills for different classes
There are so many fun whips as temporary weapons, such as in the Sylvari story when you're breaking out of prison & get to pretend-defeat Caithe with a vine whip, or any time there's an Asura lightning whip just lying around in a mission. The animations for them & the creative abilities one could use are so cool! I would love to have an elementalist with a powerful lightning whip, a rogue or druid with more mobility-crippling abilities, or a necromancer who whips the sky to command their evil minions. >:) I would also love mesmer, my main, to have a whip. But how to tie illusions, psionics, & glamor with whips? Mind-numbing whip?? 🤔
Why are people assuming this means entirely new weapons? "New" could just mean "new to each class." Heck they even call out "lifting constraints," such as the constraints on what weapons can and can't be used. My thoughts; Elite Spec weapons will become usable regardless of having the spec equipped. So you can have a hammer wielding tempest or a pistol wielding reaper...
Legit where is this place they asked questions about weapons cause my 2 cents I'd love to put in are, Spears (think Hoplite spear and shield), shortsword, rapiers / thrusting swords, then 2-handed axe.
Honestly why not, we have a torch and a warhorn in this game, having some other magic gizmo apart from focus would be fine. From conventional weapons we are really only missing polearms, crossbows and maybe flails.
I was hoping for something like a dual dagger Soulbeast to have the standard 5 skills instead of 3 and 2 for the weapons. It would make the dual wield of the same weapon different to play.
I read this much less as adding new weapons and more so giving professions new mechanics to utilize within the space of elite spec. The previous paragraph literally told us that they already felt as though most of the playstyles they wanted each profession to support were already implemented into the game so new weapons is highly unlikely.
Tbh i voted for the 2h axe because the flavour, I didn't think about it. What I thought for some reason is that they would release every weapon in the game for every class
I personally think its really weird and long overdue for some polearms in the game, like a halbered or something would be really cool. Spear being wasted on underwater combat is a real shame aswell.
The thing about new weapons is that is not something you just put in the game except for fist weapons. They can just repeat what they did with staff as a melee weapon but with focus. I even dare to say that that's what anet planed for a while specially if you look at most of foci skins there is a lot of claws, knickles and what not
Think there is a lightning whip you get from opening a chest during Temple of the Forgotten God personal story the skills of that were cool; would like to see it as a permanent weapon. Also the whip from SAB.
I would love martial arts-style unarmed attacks, especially if it came with some Monk Elite Spec to specialize in them (likely to a Warrior or Guardian, but also maybe to stuff like Elementalists, who already give me a kind of "martial artsy" vibe), I would 100% play it, especially if they added a specific skin that was invisible, allowing you to live your fantasy of rejecting weapons entirely and being even stronger without them than you would with them. Whips may look weird at first, but consider this: they're perfect as caster weapons. Imagine an Ele whip that changes its appearance depending on your element, imagine having a lightning whip, or being Katara with a water whip. A Mesmer could have a mind whip it fits the theme of causing psychological pain, and it looks really cool. And a Necro? They already look like freaking Dominatrixes, they were born to use the whip and especially to use a whip made out of someone's spine. Hell, even Ranger would be cool having a Thorn whip, imagine a Druid with that. And I especially like the aesthetic of chain weapons, so PLEASE, make it happen. As for axes... meh? Not the great fan, I feel like they could just make them be fun skills for the hammers. However, y'know what I love? Halberds. Poleaxes. Hell, pole hammers. I want spears and other pole weapons in the game ASAP, but if they prioritize axes over them, at least give me a fancy Dark Soulsesque halbert. I'm gonna make my whole build around it, SERIOUSLY.
what about scythes the size of axes that are held by a chain (or a cheap rope if its one of the low lvl skinned ones) which you swing around, there could be moves such as pull moves, rotation moves similar to the warrior axe skill 5, and it would have a short range but a little longer than most melee melee weapons i.e swords. Spears but out of water would be great too.
I think Brass Knuckles and other similar things would be really cool on Rangers and Revenants, I can definitely see their potential, but they are not the most interesting to me. Would love to see a two handed axe. Land spears, both single hand and both hand would be cool.
