This was very informative, thank you! My lawn guy just told me I have these and I had never heard of them, now watching your video it makes total sense. I'm excited for those patches of my lawn to get better!
Glad to be helpful. Depending on where you are this time of year, it could be armyworms instead of webworms, but both are treated similarly. Best of luck!👍👍
Wow! That's over an acre of St. Augustine - so definitely a lot to protect. In that case, the best method is to watch for webworm issues as they arise, and then treat reactively with a contact pest control product like bifen - which is fairly inexpensive.
Bifinthrin, Talstar, and Bifen IT all work great Big box stores will carry liquid Triazicide as well. These are contact controls, but do not offer systemic treatment. It may need to be retreated after 2 weeks.
Thank you for sharing this! We have an infestation and it seems to have happened overnight, moths everywhere. I wish we were closer, but are in Pasco. headed to Home Depot now. 🦋
It is the same insecticide for both, so that's not neccessary to know. However, in my experience and area, sod webworms only come in fall. Armyworms in spring.
Hey Rusty - I am in North Carolina, it is 10/12/21, temps in the 70s during the day and I am seeing the Sod Webworm moths flying around my yard with the resulting brown spots in my grass. Is it too late to treat the webworms this time of year ? Many Thanks, Tom
I am so sorry for the delayed reply - as I didn't see your comment. I have not found a time when it's so late that treating them damages the turf, so if they're active I treat for them - regardless of weather.
This is Amazing! This fascinates me, never knew those patches were caused by these worms...... I also never knew what these worms were called.

Good video shoutout to you saw you in lawncare
Thank you!
Great if you have a postage stamp size hard…. 50000 sq.ft yard gets pretty expensive.

Mine are gray and hairy. What is this worm ?
Would you mind recommending some brands and active ingredients, please?

Wanted to know how to kill those below soil line. Specifically what will kill sod webworms but not earth worms or other beneficials.
Many different contact insecticides control webworms and will never have any affect on earthworms. Bifinthrin is the product we commonly use.
Bifen or imddacloprid
Absolutely for active control bifinthren is great. I use Acelepryn as our Prevention application and have great results
