De Gaspé Street in '' le quartier Villeray '' at that time was 99 % catholic French Canadian ( Québécois ) mainly lower class a little bit of middle class . My father told us how sweet was '' Madame Robinson '' she charmed the whole street.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ if you don’t shed a tear over this documentary you’re dead inside. Just a beautiful tribute........ and his wife 😱 ~ the definition of grace and elegance. Wow, simply wow.
Rachel Robinson is a treasure♥️
@@DiscoverMontréal One of the best!
I didn't cry, but I was moved, just the same. Didn't come close.
This video is greatly appreciated
and ALL should see it.
To a certain extent, Rachel Robinson was equally - if not more -- accomplished than her husband: BA from UCLA in 1945. Masters in psychiatric nursing from NYU in 1961. Professor at Yale in 1965. Phenomenal for a woman, let alone a black woman, for those times. A trailblazer in her own right.
@@quinnmurph2750 You're quite right. 100%.
We need the MONTRÉAL EXPOS BACK!!!!
ASAP😭
I've never been more proud of being a Montrealer! Thank You for this video
Thank you for watching♥️
Kennan, We used to cover the San Francisco Giants for radio when they came to Montreal it's true what Jackie and his wife Rachel said about Montreal it's day and night from America. We don't feel the racial tension when we came to Canada like we do in the US we feel very welcome in a place like Montreal and it's like taking a fresh breath of air. How we wish we could live in a place like Canada.
What a great documentary. There's still lots of baseball fans up here and I'm pretty sure we're all incredibly proud to have had our city host Jackie and Rachel during that pivotal year. I wish I could have been there to cheer him on.
This story is incredible. Deep! I never knew he played in Canada. Wow!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Très touchante la vidéo, pourquoi nous les québécois (es)sommes comme ça, aimables accueillants etc ? C’est naturel chez nous quoi ? Merci de nous faire partager cette vidéo, bonne journée à toi
Great job guys. Makes me love Montreal Even more. Thank you so much!
The Montreal Expos should have had Jackie Robinson toss out the ceremonial first pitch at their first-ever home game in 1969.
this is so cool!
So good to see that mostly Catholic 1940's Quebec didn't embrace mostly Protestant America's racism! I'm proud of my Catholic brothers and sister up their!
Loved
Quelle superbe montage
if we ever get a baseball team back, I think we should consider naming the team after him. I'm not sure how but something!
Fantastic. Just fantastic.
To judge someone one anything other than the way they act and treat others is just pure ignorance
Pretty cool 👌
Is that Keath David's beautiful voice I'm hearing?
Yes!!
I would've wanted to move to Montreal had that been me. And learn French.
The holiday should have been for Jackie because he does not have a sealed FBI file.
A black ran with love, instead of lynching. Wow!
Ronald Reagan, the man for whom Black Americans could give only 10 per cent of their vote, asked on the radio in the 1930's-long before Rickey-:"Why are there no black ball players in MLB?"
I understand what the narrator wants to achieve in this video. However ,as a person who grew up in the Bronx and Westchester County in the 40s and 50s ,as a Yankee fan, no one I knew ever “underrated “ Jackie Robinson .Rather he was constantly regarded as a great ball player who was dominant in baseball for about a decade. His great talent was manifest and he was one of the most exciting players in the game.
yes your speaking of Robinson after the exploits he achieved, what your missing here was about Robinson before becoming the player you knew, and the barriors that were broken,
@@enzodellacorte1909 Utter nonsense. Robinson was known to be a great athlete and baseball player before he made it to the majors. I doubt there’s anyone who knows more about the barriers broken than yours truly.
Canada played a role in the freedom of runaway slaves also. It was called the underground railway. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_Railroad
