Mahesh Kale runs a school of music with his wife in San Francisco, USA. He is originally from India and is a phenomenal Hindustani ( North) Classical Music Singer. He is from Maharashtra, the state is in the West of India. It is the State where Bollywood is in. Your Dad got the name right ! No religious connotation in the Classical Music of India. It is phenomenally difficult and full of rules which you have to follow. There is room for a lot of Improvisation sticking to the rules of the Rag ( pronounced raag and not rag) People in the West are totally lost when they hear Hindustani Classical music. For Us Indians, Classical Music is more melodic than the light music. ( film music/Bollywood music). It is the rules of Classical music which makes the music in Bollywood films melodious. The reason you can identify with the film music is because you are hearing instruments in it and it is much easier to sing than the Classical Music.

@WaleskaHerrera The song Laal Ishq is actually composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Arijit Singh is merely doing something we call playback singing in this track, like most other commercialized ones. However, Arijit does compose his own pieces during most of his live performances and recently even started composing for mainstream Bollywood, in Netflix's Pagglait. Do check that album out, it's usually rare in Bollywood for a playback singer to compose, which means composers are completely different from singers and producers. But yes, that's how it is most of the time.

When the dancers perform the Raas Leela,
