You are absolutely correct. As a retired QA person, I would have to write a bug about usability. This is supposed to be entertainment not work for the user.
I signed into Hulu the other week and was greeted by this atrocity. As already explained, you can't see a damn thing. It took me five minutes to find my show. I thought something went horribly wrong at Hulu and they accidently released version 0.1 alpha, before they hired a UI designer and replaced the dead rotting goat carcass they had running the development team. Turns out the nightmare is real and this nauseating visual assault is somehow a "better version". I can only assume it managed to escape from the laptop of the slow janitor, who scrubs the toilets, onto Hulu's revision server and was pushed to release. And you know what? I think I'm being too hard on slow, toilet scrubbing janitors. Even they know a turd when they see one.
Please Hulu, take this to heart, there are some great comments in this video and the comments, this new interface is unusable as it is today. I had my PS4 set to auto-update and I came back to this mess earlier and I've been so turned off by even trying to find new content that I shut down the app and put on a game instead. I know user attention is hard to get on the PS4, please don't shove your users out of your app with something so tough to use.
You're absolutely right about everything. I think most of us can agree that the new Hulu interface is a navigational nightmare. Another thing they've done is put white lettering on a light colored background so they're basically giving the finger to anyone with vision problems, which includes me. The color scheme looks like it was done by a little girl. They've also completely done away with the viewer rating system. I don't know about anyone else but I always pay attention to the viewer ratings because I don't want to waste hours my time watching bad tv or movies. I guess they're trying to be HBO (which also has no rating system).
It's taken me YEARS to develop that watchlist. I didn't freak out too much when we went fron queue to watchlist... I hope they have it saved somewhere so when they fix this mess we can go back to normal.
Hey, I'm 62 and pretty savvy, this interface is hard to navigate. The UI, well, after several attempts, I just canceled. It was intuitive before and, well, they broke it. Don't have the time to figure bullshit, make it easy for users, not show off for the stakeholders.
Canceled mine tonight as well. This lay out is horrible. I can't tell what used to be shows I watched and what is junk they added in. I can't delete any of there garbage. I agree, should they change back which I doubt. I would go back. Sucks because I used to watch it a lot.

I couldn't agree more. Just found out about this new format and it sucks. I couldn't even find Details on my PC so next time I go there that may help but what I also miss is not being able to comment on the shows which you don't seem able to do anymore with this new format.
it sucks because now its harder to find stuff. The interface sucks it tried to be sleek and outdid itself now its to sleek to be user friendly. i canceled my subscription. Because the subtitles are not even readable skinny and blends right into the background of the picture.
It also sucks because the First two episodes of Battlestar Galactica vanishes!! Those are the best ones and it says S1E1 is "33" when we all know that's Episode 3! Seriously look at it!
Just recently bought a new roku so i could put my old one in my bedroom and regret it now excuse pretty much every app has a shit UI. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon even Crackle, not to mention the ones that always sucked, the 2 by Google in particular. They are either just distracting while browsing (Hulu), randomly playing preview videos in the background (Netflix, Crackle),starting movies while trying to read descriptions (netflix), or just plain useless (Amazon, CZcams, etc). All of these companies have finally taken thier belief in form over function way to fuckin far.
Visually, I hate the bright colors. It is overwhelming and is not branded. It almost ruins the satisfaction the old banners used to give you. They more or less pulled an "apple" in assuming they knew what was best for us, even though it would be hard at first. BUT this is horrible. There is no hierarchy and the navigation gives me motion sickness. UGH. As someone who designs this stuff for a living, I have a very hard time recognizing their thought process here aside from making a visual statement.
I watch Hulu on my tv since it can hook up to the net directly, but can't figure out how to create a new profile. I have done everything I was told to in order to get another profile, sadly it doesn't work...so fustrated.
Totally agree with you. The old interface worked just fine. Why take the time and money to mess it all up. The lame highlighting and fadded out images makes it very hard to find what your looking for. It's so bad it seems intentional, like they're saving on bandwidth or something; so you just keep looking around and don't actually play a show. I don't get it.

I've heard good things about Playstation Vue, but it's more expensive (though it does give you more content). I haven't really looked into it personally, I don't know what it's UI is like. But ike I said in the video, my PS4 still has the old Hulu so, I'm still good for now...

This insane interface redesign is a joke what were they thinking? I was just greeted with this mess they call a new interface today on my Roku and I hate it, they need to listen to all the people complaining about it and put the original design back, they have to put thumbnails back what person would give this interface a green light is beyond me. They definitely have to fire him/her as I can see I am not the only one who hates this version of the app. Hulu you need to listen to your users and go back to what we all liked about the version before this, very important to have thumbnails and easy intuitive navigation not this hodgepodge of useless giant text as that is near worthless and not something the end user wants or asked for. While your right about the old Hulu interface, I find the new one better in terms of speed... At first it was slower, but that was fixed... The New problem I have is... Hulu 2020 interface makes everything look static like im watching 480P TV recorded on 1920x1080 Res DVD with a Filter... HD? Not really, it looks aweful... Id rather pop in a movie CD, DVD, 4K, or whatever, & forget about Hulu, things also look washed out, too... No more Rainbow intro, its black & white now... At least Archer still looks ok on Hulu, but ya... I may have to cancel my sub at this point... Vizio 4K Smart 2019 with 8 core CPU, & this is what im seeing? Aweful...

Personally I've always liked the new UI. I use Hulu mostly because I don't like Netflix's UI. It's too bland and boring. Hulu went from looking like a Netflix knockoff to its own entity and I can appreciate that.
Just updated the hulu app on one of my Fire 7 tablets. Will not update any other devices, for sure! The tinting is very off-putting, closed captioning is teeny-tiny even on the VERY LARGE setting, and I also miss the thumbnails. If hulu discontinues support of the original app I will cancel.

It's horrible. I previously like browsing through the British television series, but what I am offered now under "international" is a very small selection of shows. Many other shows are still available... IF you know what you are looking for and search for them directly. I liked browsing through and seeing ones that I had never heard of, but that looked interesting. It's sad- Hulu still has the selection of shows I like, but it's just too frustrating to try and access them. Unsubscribing.. like many others are doing. OMG. My Roku just crapped out so I went back to the old Roku and it updated to this new interface. It is absolutely horrible. I am a Product Manager for a large tech company and if I had come up with this, I would be fired. This absolutely sucks.

they just rolled the new UI on all Roku users & it's awful. when you go to "Browse" the screen changes color tint from blue to red to green etc it's AWFUL and hurts your eyes. I'm this close to canceling.
Horrible on Roku 3. This is going to eat up the batteries in my remote a lot faster. It's amazing how many big corporations seem to have a Bad Idea Dept. I'll probably cancel, until I hear they've fixed it, and fired the powerful idiot who said "Hey! I have an idea! Let's make our service MUCH harder to use!", and then fired the smart pee-on who said "Ummm...I dunno..."
The main problem with this shitty interface for me is that it feels like there is a dramatic decrease in the amount of content hulu has to offer, since the entire home page consists of what used to be in your visinity all at once. Now everything is hidden and located somewhere else.

The Designer that updated this really screwed this up. I'm wondering did they test this with user groups? I just added HULU back to my PS4, and I was like "what is this crap". I had it previously and it was easier to see content. Sad thing is i dont think they will roll this back. My opinion... this UI is garbage.

I mainly watch hulu on my TV thru Roku. I've lost everything. No watch list , no content, not even any GRAPHICS. I've created a new my content list and still no graphics. What TARD developed this re-do?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Worst EVER. I do NOT get the grapics you are showing.nada. Even within specific shows- it is all BLANK. jUST THE WORST. My fav part is how it wiped away ALL of my watch klist and placed me back to season 1 ep1- great. At least you are getting graphics,.. I don't. I did an update last night because my buffering was really bad again. I thought well maybe they made navigation better WRONG! buffering was not as bad on live tv but still an annoyance. I still haven't figured out how to record programs. Its so bad my head hurts.

You can't, and Hulu doesn't appear to care. You're best option is to cancel and sign up with a competitor.

I had it previously and it was easier to see content. Sad thing is i dont think they will roll this back. My opinion... this UI is garbage.

I mainly watch hulu on my TV thru Roku. I've lost everything. No watch list , no content, not even any GRAPHICS. I've created a new my content list and still no graphics. What TARD developed this re-do?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Worst EVER. I do NOT get the grapics you are showing.nada. Even within specific shows- it is all BLANK. jUST THE WORST. My fav part is how it wiped away ALL of my watch klist and placed me back to season 1 ep1- great. At least you are getting graphics,.. I don't. Thumbs up for the vid but TWO thumbs down for the freaking update
I have hulu and use the firestick navigation is terrible. I think they gave up on trying to make it better. if you call them they say they are working on it. I think an idiot designed it

I did an update last night because my buffering was really bad again. I thought well maybe they made navigation better WRONG! buffering was not as bad on live tv but still an annoyance. I still haven't figured out how to record programs. Its so bad my head hurts.
