Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.

Probably also important to know is that 'daddy' in Dutch is 'Papa'. So this song is dedicated to his parents, but especially to his father. His father has told him there are no borders (limits). So he sings about Europe also being without borders. So Europapa is sort of daddy without limits.
For a Eurovision Songfestival song this is going quite deep. It is also unusual personal.
    I hope he will win!

He was brought up by his brother. His father told Joost to write poetry, so that is what he does now. The song lyrics are very sad, knowing his backstory. Joost and his parents used to watch Eurovision, joost told his dad he would be on that stage one day. His dad told him "It's a world without borders". However, it also means: "It's a world without limits" since "grenzen" in dutch means both "limits" as well as "borders".
In contrast to the happy melody the lyrics show the cracks in his mask off being a happy guy.
    - I have lost everything but the time
    - I am in Berlin but still I am alone, I am in Italy and still it hurts. (referring to him not being able to flee from his pain)
    - I am running from myself and cry for help
    - i even give people money but there is no one to help me (referring to the bad youth healthcare system.)
Even stromae's song papaoutai is a mention to his death father as stromae also lost his father.
Also a lot off stuff in the video really makes clear he's still stuck in the past. Stuff like the punk clothing and the nitendo sp is verry 2000's, the time when Joost was a kid. At the end the buring is him wanting to move on not be stuck in his grieve forever.

You hit the nail in the head brother 👏🏼. The video also shows Joost in 3 perspectives, the kid within him, the current Joost and an old Joost. Look back to the kid within him, whilst the current Joost is trying to escape the pain, and the old one recognizing it’s sometimes he’s gotta deal with and trying to handle.

    Gabber Maaskantje history info,
The music style originated in the early 90's in Holland and is overall better known as Hardcore. To be more specific this is the subgenre Happy hardcore.
Later on it picked up the terms gabber and in media gabberhouse. The fans of the genre used to wear Australian and Cavello tracksuits and nike air max aka Maxxies. Sometimes paired with Levi 501 jeans. Other style aspects are the shaved head or sideshave and tight bound ponytail. You can see all these aspects in the clip.
The followers of the music and style call(ed) themselfs gabbers which is kinda like "friends".
The dance style is known as Hakken or gabberen.
Interchangeable of the word gabber is a tad confusing for those not exposed to the scene but it allows for funny wordplay though.
    The Gabbers gabbered on gabber.
Though Europapa starts in a bit of Eurobeat style everyone who heard hardcore here knew right there to get the maxxies ready hahaha
Hardcore at Eurovision..... 20 years after I hung my double sided Aussie up. Damn what a boss!!
    Douze points Jongûh
Maaskantje rules. DJ Paul Elstak - king of Gabber. Gabber royalty!

Nice video and thanks for your research in joost.
(The background and meaning of Joost Klein 'Europapa')
This is what Joost said about the song: "'Europapa' is a tribute to my father.
The song is a letter I wrote to my father, who died when I was a teenager."
'Europapa' is about an orphan who travels throughout Europe (and surrounding areas) to find himself and tell his story.
My father gave me a broad view of the world.
    Boundaries are made by people,
but my father told me that you can also set boundaries yourself by thinking out of the box.
At first people didn't know me,
but I continue to take every opportunity to show myself.
    When people see my act,
the first response should be, “What's going on here?”
and ultimately it touches people and makes them think.
'Europapa' initially seems like a very cheerful act,
but behind that lies a deeper message.
    (Background info from Joost Klein)
Joost Klein (26) is from the Netherlands.
Joost, is a Dutch musician, rapper, singer and former CZcamsr.
He is primarily a hip hop artist and his songs and performances often incorporate influences from electronic music,
such as drum 'n' bass, hardstyle and gabber.
    Joost also writes poetry
At the age of twelve he lost his father to cancer.
A year later, in 2011, his mother died of cardiac arrest.
After the death of his parents,
Joost was cared for by his older brother and sister.

Thank you for your honest review and your research of the artist.
This is a masterpiece!!! This is the winner of Eurovision Songcontest 2024, for me. No doubt.
Research: Europapa = Eurodad. 12 points for The Netherlands. An ode to his father who passed away when he was 12 years and his mother who passed away when he was 13 years. His father told him that there are no borders / boundaries, no limits. Go, travel and discover Europe and the world. He promised his father that one day he will be singing at the Eurovision. They used to watch it together when he was a child. Now he made it, because he will be on stage this year.
Everywhere he travelled he carried the pain and grief with him.
The fire simbolise letting go of the pain of no having his parents and the start of a new chapter in his life.

It's fascinating how different decades of music each had their own unique atmosphere and impact, and it's understandable that everyone has their own personal preference. The '60s indeed brought about a cultural revolution, characterized by the rise of the hippie movement, new forms of self-expression, and music acting as a powerful symbol of social change.
The '80s, in turn, brought an exciting mix of genres such as new wave, synthpop, and of course, the colorful world of disco. This period is often remembered for its vibrant fashion, striking music videos, and an overall sense of optimism.
The '90s are often praised for their diversity of music styles, from grunge and alternative rock to the rise of hip-hop and the explosion of electronic dance music. It was a time of experimentation and eclecticism, with musicians exploring new sounds and pushing boundaries.
It's understandable that you have a special connection to the time in which you grew up, and the emotions that music can evoke are often deep and personal. It's important to cherish those memories and continue to enjoy the music that is dear to you, regardless of the decade in which it originated.

The style of music is happy hardcore and 'gabber' music which is basically also a form of hardcore.
