  • This month, I wanted to share Andre’s story I couldn't help but be touched by Andre’s reflections on surrendering to God and seeking healing. His resilience and commitment to becoming a blessing to others within our community is inspiring.
“I'm a coordinator here at the Mission, and I work with the Seeds of Hope. I've been an alcoholic for 40 years. When a new guest comes in and needs help, the seeds are where you start. When the guys come in, I always share that it's going to be okay. All they have to do is give themselves a break, and things will get better. It takes me back to when I was in that position. I got introduced to alcohol at an early age, and from then on, it went to heavy drug use for 27 years. I felt like nobody really cared for me because of the things I was doing to myself. So I realized that there was a void in me that was missing, no matter what material things I had-work, home, relationships-it didn't fill the void. So what I did was I surrendered. Finally, I prayed to God and asked him to help me, and he did. I hope that other men in the program look at me and realize that God can take a person from the cold streets of South Central Los Angeles and change them into the person that He would have them to be.
Thanks to you this program, the Union Rescue Mission can be a vehicle for so many towards, recovery, transformation and restoration. You are the reason we can continue to do this work of life-transformation. Because of your support, we always say yes, and we never say no.
We could not do this life-changing, life-transforming work without your prayers and support.
    Thank you.
