The real sham is how they recruit you. Taking these young college kids promising them "hard work" "opportunities" to make the money they know students are in desperate need of. Then after they have you sign up they SEND YOU TO ANOTHER STATE where they control your housing and it's much harder to leave. The truth is very few of the salesman managed to get the numbers they claim when recruiting so they end up being able to pay you less than minimum wage to work insane hours. All under the guise of hustle, it's absolutely insane. As these young people get more and more calloused and desperate, they become less and less respectful.

This whole thing reminds me of when my mom taught my girl scout troop about door-to-door cookie sales. She asked us, "What do you do if someone doesn't answer the door or says they aren't interested?" and we were all like Keep ringing the doorbell! Tell them about our sales prizes!! and she waited for us to settle down, made sure we were listening, and said, "If someone doesn't come to the door, you leave. If someone says no thank you, you thank them for their time and you head to the next house." Wish these guys had my mom to teach them a thing or two lol

I won't say what company, but I worked for a door to door sales company that had taught me a slew of tactics to sell things to people. One of them was "Congratulating the woman of the house for being able to make a decision by herself", telling her "her husband would be so proud of how she was able to make that decision." The problem is that they recruit people form states like Ohio, ship them out to WA state and send the out but it's so over worked by Door 2Door that there is no money left to be made so the door 2 door guys become super super aggressive and the home owners who deal with this every 2-3 days get ultra aggressive back, its all just a real shit show. My manager at work even got in to a fist fight, its that bad. All becasue of the people recruiting them in other states. I once entertained a door to door salesperson. My wife and I had been talking about getting a home security system and this young woman showed up selling just such a product. So I said let's hear her out. Shortly after she began the sales pitch she told us that she had to call her boss just so they know where she is for safety reasons. About 5 minutes later her boss shows up at the door, this big lummox of a man, and comes in guns blazing with the high pressure sales shit. Talking about how they have this great sale that ends today and I'm like thats cool but i want to do some research and comes back with you need to decide in the next 90 minutes or the promo is gone forever and I'm like okay time for you to go. At that point I think he panics because he blurts out "do you know how much crime is in your neighbourhood? Someone will rob you!" And I'm just like well if I do I'm telling to cops you did it, now get the fuck out.

As an internet installation technician, I often have to go to people's doors to ask to go into their backyards to reach their easement/pole to install my customer's internet. What really sucks is that people always expect that I'm some sort of salesperson since I'm in attire that matches my company, and they refuse to even come to the door or tell me to go away without me being able to say anything. It is a terrible standard these door to door people are setting, because it sets an expectation for people to not answer to any sort of person from a company at their door. I've had to jeopardize jobs over it, and it sucks having to explain to my customer that the person in the house who has the pole in their yard won't unlock their gate for me so I can't install their internet.

I was unintentionally in door to door sales. The position was labled as "Field Marketing" and the interview sounded like promoting the company was what we would do. First day of training, they tell me and my class that we go door to door "canvassing" home owners on our solar system. It was essentially selling without doing it yourself. Instead, you set the homeowner up with a future appointment to send the actual sales person.I learned it after a month and left a month after that when a police officer stopped me. I was desperate, so I tried to make this job work. When the reality settled in, I couldn't take it morally and quit. The actual office was also full of rampant misogynists who cared for nothing but the money they made ripping off home owners. It will always remain the job Im most ashamed of being in (even if it was only 2 months).

I tried canvasing for paid sick leave ballot measures in my city. I wasn't selling anything and it was for a good cause that I believed in. I reached high school levels of social anxiety in just a few hours because it felt bad to interrupt people unsolicited. It felt bad when they answer the door and are visibly irked and brush you off because, what was I expecting? I never volunteered to do it again. I don't know how someone can mentally maneuver themselves to do this over and over again.

You have to be motivated by money and/or a sociopath. Only person I know who was really good at doing this kind of shit was 100% self absorbed, very charismatic, and knew how to talk his way through anything.
There are many jobs/skills that require a special type of person in that position in order for them to be successful and imo this is one of those.

I got a neighbors mail in my box the other day and tried giving it to them. They kept cutting me off through the ring doorbell and saying they didn’t want what I was selling. Seeing how aggressive these people can be I kind of see how they could have that guard up that much if they thought I was selling something. Ended up leaving the mail on their stoop.

I'm in the UK and used to get persistent cold callers from the same company who obviously thought it was amusing because I kept telling them I wasn't interested week after week. I was expecting them and just so happened to be cleaning a legally owned shotgun when I answered the door. I know it's different in the USA but it makes quite an impression on a know it all 20 yr old.

I appreciate the amount of detail and humor that goes into these kinds of videos.
I went in for an “interview” for one of these places back in the day, and it was the scummiest shit, they talked about going into nice areas and just casually having a conversation with people. They got us to meet up at a coffee shop to discuss “strategies”, one guy mentioned how he just wore glasses and carried a clipboard and a fake badge to “seem official”. I got up, asked the clerk to call me a cab and waited on the other side while they indoctrinated the other poor souls. They were talking about the place they were going, saying how it was all people looking to buy “green energy” and I knew the place, they went to this fucking old age community with people who barely spoke any english.
When idubs say these people are scum, that barely even scratches the surface. All this “take no for an answer” is honestly a front for what they really do to manipulate people.
What I learned from that, don’t let them anywhere near you, don’t talk to them, don’t interact with them, and if the claim to be any made up position like the one guy (I’m kind of like the route coordinator”, to get you to “sign” something to show you’re not signing up with their service (yeah they do this lmao) and for some reason that was enough confirmation to enter them in this shitty contract.
Idk if they still do the sign thing but yeah they’re worst of the worst and honestly the people who are “motivated” to do it deserve to get those threats of guns. xD
