Agreed. And for the price and wood used, the planks came out great

$210 for that much. If you paid that at the store you would get a wood chip
Thatâs so true up here in ny a standard piece of plywood can cost up to $70
You mean toothpick
@@jayesh5131 my bad I guess I made a typo
Seth would just have to sell a few planks and he wood make his 210$ easily (pun intended)
Before prices sky rocketed, oak was going for about $6 a board foot at the local mill around here. At $6/bft, that 525 board feet would be about 3150. I know he's doing his own felling and bucking, and it's only possible with the gator, trailer, and woodland he already had, but Seth and Kevin just saved a bunch of money.

Lumber prices: horribly high.
Some mountain guys: "Fine, I'll do it myself."
'I did it my self' -Berm Park. Yeah they turned ~10 logs into lumber for a enough lumber to equal $2000, instead of selling to a veneer mill That would have payed $1000+ per log ($10,000). DIY costing yourself $8,000.
Lumber prices now are at an all time LOW! Hasn't caught up yet at Retail but cannot go much lower without Mills Curtailing production or losing money
@@bgdg323 they needed the planks. They didn't cut them up to sell them to a mill.
@@kugelpanzerstudios4800 I think the argument William is making is they could have sold those logs and bought 3x the weight of wood of a different type, because of the value of that type of timber compared to what they normally use, however, if those planks they have are very weatherproof (I don't know my north american trees) they could well be worth $10,000 for their use, as they'll last for decades compared to the normal timber they used in the $600 build
@@bgdg323 veneer mills wrong buy that super dry standing dead wood. Derp. It's too dry and won't peel well. It's too imperfect, has too much checking, has too many cracks, etc. And selling it to a veneer mil won't help them at all. Don't you love it when you try to post a snarky comment, but you get schooled by someone who actually knows what they're talking about?
As a woodworker/furniture maker, I 100% side with you on working with the local sawmill. Always a treat to be right there with the process and take it home and turn it into something that will last for a very long time.
Hey Seth, please be carefull felling these dead oaks. Its one of the most dangerous task in forestry felling trees that are long time dead since with just the vibration of your chainsaw and hammering wedges in to the felling cut, stems can break of and hit you being right underneath it.
