"Remove the aquilas and other unnecessary..."
Yes Inquisitor.. this man right here!
You know the emperor’s champion model does not have an Aquila.
None of the BT have the aquila
Consider my pet peeved. They aren’t even “Aquilas”. Those are the double headed eagles. The winged skulls are known as Imperialis and they are a symbol that was adopted by the loyalist legions in the Horus Herasy as a badge representing their finality to the Emperor and Imperium. Astarte should wear them with pride and honor, not shave them off.
@@falsehero2001 again black templars are very devoted to the emperor and yet do not have this imperialis.
@@MultiZegamer Yes they do. There are tons of official art going back to the 90s of Black Templars with the winged skull Imperialis chest plate. This includes the legendary 3rd edition cover art.
Absolutely LOVE the Lukas content. Love his painting style and way of explaining.
Please make this a regular thing!!
Might have to start paying him though.
@@Lord_Godd gotta give him his cookies
Don't you think the exposure will be plenty enough @@Lord_Godd? :D
If you really want the crusader feeling, than give these guys bucket helms. Nothing screams crusader like the classic bucket helm and tabard combination.
I’ve used some of the Gray Knight helmets for my Templars. Looks very feudal
Frogmouth
Lukas could have just picked Dark Angels and saved himself a lot of time lol :D
This was really cool to see Lucas's process he and Emil have very similar but also very different approaches to painting and I love that we get to see that.
I want more Lucas painting videos as well this was fun and it looked like he had fun with it
Cool video, but I wouldn’t say you think a black Templar is boring to their face.
treu
I mean they are plastic toys. So nothing will happen if you do
I am personally offended that he even insinuated the the Templars are not perfect as is. What’s the first thing he does? Shave off the Aquila, the very symbol of our Emperor.
This video is heresy brothers. Someone will pay for this
Yes that is why I'm here.. Taking applications for Crusade 😂
😄
I mean I don't wanna be mean but crusader squad offers exactly this and even a bit extra, for me templars in one of the few chapters with GREAT sculptures, and kits, crusaders, sword brethren and upgrade bits are some of the best things GW offers for marines, no way boring, you can go the extra mile with some conversions and kitbashing but tbh they're great, good pairing tho
not sure if I'm more jealous of the excellent painting, the brush control, or simply how beautifully tipped that well used brush looks!
I love this new style of video! I love that you guys show which paints to use and how. I'm colorblind so its really useful for me to actually see the name of the paints you're using
I always associated the Black Templars scheme with the Knights Hospitaller with their white Maltese cross on black more than the Knights Templar.
I appreciate the paint pop up, because sometimes I'm not 100% sure which color you guys say either due to sound quality, Swedish accent, or both. Please continue doing it.
Vhat do yå meen svedish accent? :D
"He certainly looks friendly, and appears to be trying to communicate.... But I can't bloody well understand him! Is that English?!" @@hunntar
Amazing video Lucas! Loved the quick down and dirty tutorial. You did a really good job keeping it condensed while not making it feel rushed. (Especially enjoyed seeing your approach to black armor lol I struggle a bit there 😂)
The Black Templars are perfect just the way they are.
Perfect.
What a great video! I really love the one where you go a little more in depth and explain the details and techniques of your paintjobs! Thanks ♥️
So you've made a Dark Angel 😂 not complaining: love my secretive boys and will definitely take on board some of those painting tips! Thank you ❤
Its a beautiful mini ! The face details are insane aswell
This is so cool! I would love to see your take on other space marine chapters
Really appreciated the thoroughness of the video, it was really good getting a chance to see Lukas explain his methods in detail. Would love to see more like this!
It's funny how different the process is from any other tutorial I've seen (literally everyone dry-brushes on the black primer for one), but results really do speak for themselves. Probably not the fastest way to paint, but gorgeous nonetheless!
Ooor you could buy the Primaris Crusader kit 🤷🏻♂️
Or Sword Brethren and Black Templars upgrade sprue.
yeah lmao it's almost like they have a dedicated kit for making them look Templar-y..
@@TessAutomataI’ve got about 7,000 points of Templars and have used 8 upgrade sprues to make all the first born(RIP) and primaris cohesive as BTs
@@docholliday9741 I loved the original Firstborn upgrade kit, it had SO MUCH good stuff for Templar. The Primaris upgrade kit is so lacking, the majority of it is for scouts too.
@@TessAutomata yup. It has its uses like adding a multi melts to impulsors but yeah
Love the style and scheme! Thanks a bunch for the video!
If you just put fabric at the front it isn’t a tabard, it is an apron! Nice to see they are doing some cooking.
Wow Lukas you rock , please do more videos, this was so much fun I watched it twice in one sitting.
Cool Grey Templar.
really cool style! And I like how you did the simple NMM. I'll definitely copy that as I often struggle with blending as it takes hours and hours but I just want my minis finished. :D
Loving the solo Lukas videos, I hope this becomes a regular occurrence in this channel! Love this channel and followed for years (Emil there'es still so much love for you, don't feel left out but this is Lukas' moment, give him a cookie)
Lukas's quick and easy paint job would be my prized mini in the top of my display cabinet if I painted it LOL
They look absolutely amazing Lukas!
Absolutely gorgeous 😍 been wanting to start a black Templar army and this is inspirational 🙏
Damn that was amazing. Lukas is bringing it! I love the style.
Lukas has skills! Happy incoming New Year!
Wow! I am absolutely floored by this. Fantastic explanation, and I am so impressed and inspired by your creativity. Subscribing to this channel has been amazing.
simply stunning, well done.
Your use of color is extraordinary. Beautiful work
Great video! Inspiring me to start painting my Templar again!
lukas is a friggin wizard. got me back into painting. keep on doing this awesome content bois
INSANE paint job! question though: why not use dark angels as a base for the minis since they already have tabards and candles? wouldn't that save you time from the green stuff sculpting?
Black Templar miniatures have tabards and candles as well
very nice video, I can't wait to see the evolution of this army
A video with Lukas is a blessing
Great work on the model. I love how 40k models include these incredibly impractical details, like wax candles on the backpack.
They don't, they are aftermarket products, Lucas tells you they are from greenstuff world.
Ah, I missed that. Still, many GW models have stuff like that on them.
@@nickclaydon2488 they do, look at the GW Sword Brethren and Black Templars upgrade pack
But a great vid again, you both are top artists !
I don't know why but I find these videos especially motivating to pick up a random mini and paint it. Keep it up!
Wonderful conversion and paintjob!
just don't tell EOB
The shading on the abs portion of the tabard is incredibly satisfying.
This is the absolute best tabletop painting style. Who has time for blends? Love the content!
Seems like most of the price for those GSW candles was for the block of resin they were on than the amount in the actual candles.
10:21 I heard "boom that's a shit looking armor" and I can't stop laughing. 😂
From a Crimson Fister, I think Black Templar scheme is cool!
Question, how much crimson do you fist daily?
@@SturmmannHanz it really depends on what Alessio cortez tells me, some days it’s the entire chapter, others it’s strictly first company
Awesome mini Lukas!
Fair play, little Squid
You killed it...bless👊
Like the paint scheme definitely feels more knightly but the conversion was a little lacking. They just look like sword brothers without the capes, would like to have seen some conversion work using the old world knights of bretonnia as inspiration. Bucket helmets with captains having a fancy design would have looked great maybe add in units on horses to sub as outriders
I had a deja Vu 😅 great double use of a very nice custom job 👍🏻❤
love your videos
You are such a good teacher Lukas!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this and I don't even play Wamharrer. Big fan of knights though - love a man in uniform :D
I just think I learned a whole ton about painting from 15 mins. More than I've learned in years!
The paint and look is amazing, but they don't really look like black templars now 😂
I think their design is more based off of the Knights Hospitaller, despite the name.
Hell yeah a tutorial, feels like it’s been forever!
Love this video style , just a cool guys painting and explaining , i wish a 1hour video full miniature
Those look amazing. The face is incredible. So much character brought to something that normally feels too lifeless for my liking.
Fun fact, the knights templar though made up of crusaders the order wasn't founded to crusade. The order was created to protect pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem through lands that were not very friendly to Christians. They were originally called the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon.
Exactly, they also operated as a kind of bank. Travellers could deposit money with them in England or France and withdraw it in Jerusalem. Saving them having to carry large sums over long distances.
I like how Lukas makes some different content, but it's still very much Squidmar style. Nice one!
I love these paint focused videos
I’m starting to love you and emils lack of washes paint style I’ve always not loved using washes but often force myself to use them because everyone says you should I think I need to start to work towards painting like you guys
Really wish there was a consistent set of models like this for Black Templars on tabletop simulator for all of the variations of infantry. Great work dude!
This project really speaks to me. I really need to give this a shot. Surprised you didn't go for more white on the armor itself, but it's a solid piece!
Awesome stuff!
stunning result
Great walkthru. I run BT and man it was a struggle to try and make reflective black. Mine always seems to turn out too gray. I'll give these steps a try starting with sketching my highlights. Gj
Amazing work
Removing the Aquillas is actually lore accutate. In the Helsreach novel, it states that they do not wear them.
That quote was just a badass exaggeration
@@Onkel_Ranger I have always files my aquila's off after reading that, I believe the full quote was "we don't wear the Emperor's symbol, we are the Emperor's symbol", but this was back in the day when Black Templars lore was very different, High Marshal Ludoldus was older than Dante, they wouldnt fight alongside even allied psykers apart from grey knights, they had no scout company, and no devastators, and no Tactical squads, and some would carry no firearms, I loved how you could swap out your bolt pistol for a storm shield to represent that in game, although I did convert 30 storm shield and chainsword wielding Initiates for a tournament, just to have GW remove that option in the next codex, about a week after I finished painting them all 🙄I still think the old Sword Bretheren models were some of the best unit models of the era.
And that is darn nice! Minimalistic and utterly mer ilessly devoted.
You definitely have earned a cookie this week lukas
So templars were occultists? Ok good job you're a master painter
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
I think we need to hear from jay here, he always has more to say.
But HOW, he puts out three youtube videos a week and a weekly patron video!
Awesome video! Always wondered why my pigments looked shit on my guys legs. Thanks for the cotton bud tip 👍🏻
Thank sou lukas ❤ i wanted to start the hobby just in the new year and my choice was black templar
At last we get the Lukas masterclass 👏🏻
That face of the mini looks like a dude that keeps his kids locked in his basement :D Great take on the Templars. I think You deserve a Cookie from Emil :D
Love you Lukas
They look sick! So cool and great timing cos I'm looking for paint scheme and I can't stand the bleu Armor read as black. Thks! ( I just need to learn how to do it as beginner now...)
This was great - I've never wanted to paint Black Templar but you at least make it seem like I could! (I still won't but there you go!)
Cheers
I want to see this army painted so much. God damn IT Lucas. The vision is god like
Super awsome, ty
I'm not bald, I'm occult AF. Get this man his cookie.
Don't let EonsOfBattle hear your saying that.
Great work! You definitely earned a 🍪!
This was great!
Wanting to support the video and the channel hope everyone has a wonderful and happy new year
Great video! Way to go Lucas, I hope Emile gives you two cookies!!🙂
Black Templars are a play on the order of the teutonic knights (black crosses and white tunics)
Black Templars properly grimdarked are the epitomy of 40k.
excellent video, i love simpler painting videos
I don't even paint minis but I love watching these vids.
Oh the hit in the nostalgia feels when ya post that pick of Lidstrom and Zetterberg
You know that there's a kit with swords, tabards and medieval helmet to improve black templars?
Adding grime to grimdark - I respect that
More Lukas 🎉
For a bit easier to do tip you can use Dark Angels like I like to do
