Indian yoga instructor branches out to restaurant industry after traffic accident|Taiwan News

  • Today we take you to meet Minesh Valand, a yoga instructor and a restaurant owner from India. He moved to Taichung in 2009 and began teaching yoga for a few years. However, due to a traffic accident he took a break from teaching and started his own Indian restaurant. FTV reporter Stephany Yang spoke to Valand to learn more about his career as a yoga teacher and restaurant founder.

    Valand used to be a computer hardware engineer until he saw the benefits of yoga and decided to quit his job to teach yoga full-time.

    I was crossing almost like touching to 100 kilograms like 99 kilograms. I started yoga practice and in two months I lost the weight. My master inspired me to go with the yoga. My family is here so I am happy and definitely Taiwan is the destination. I hope to let people know what is yoga. Now I am capable to do so definitely something will come out sooner or later.
    Valand moved to Taiwan in 2009 and began teaching yoga. Due to a motorcycle accident, he stopped teaching yoga for a few years.

    I had several damages on my body. Hands, legs, and skulls, and a lot of many places. So from there, I stopped yoga but in 2019 again I got up from the bed.
    He opened his first Indian restaurant in 2015. Later, he opened up other restaurants across Taiwan. One of his recent achievements was making it onto Michelin’s new Taichung list of recommended Bib Gourmand eateries.

    I was missing Indian food so I chose to have an Indian restaurant. I opened my first restaurant in 2015. I have five stores. Four in Taichung, one in Hsinchu, and one more is coming up a vegetarian rsetraunt in Hsinchu.
    Having lived in Taiwan for 15 years, Valand hopes to continue to introduce both authentic cuisine and culture from India to more people in Taiwan.
