- In this video, Scottish Rite Freemason Maynard Edwards, 32 KCCH reveals the two things Freemasons are forbidden to discuss and more importantly WHY they are not allowed to discuss them.
He also discusses why there is no "God of Freemasonry" and dispels other myths about the fraternity.

My father was a Freemason, but we never knew it until he died. He never told us. At his funeral, the Masons did a ceremony. Caught us off guard. I asked them what his degree was, but they wouldn’t tell me. They just said it was a higher degree, he was a member for over 70 years. I’ve made several phone calls, but they refuse to tell me. I guess we’ll never know.
This sounds odd to me, and to any other mason. Our Masonic funeral service is open to the public of course and if he was a 70 year mason, then he likely became a mason at a very young age and would have been close to 90 or more when he died. Also, he was likely a Master Mason.
If your dad really was a mason, contact the grand lodge in your state during business hours. They will give you the information. It’s not hidden or secret.
Ask to be a mason
@@ScottishRiteMasons
Ok. I’ll do that. Thank you so much. I don’t know when he joined, but he died in 2021, at age 96.
If freemaysons are not a religion then why have a book of faith for every religion and say prayers this sounds like a religion to me
U have to become a mason to get your question answered
2 things guaranteed to create division: Religion & politics
because people do not talk about it, share and teach, make and create awareness.
Avoidance and political correctness is only aiding in the division.
Even in the work place
Thanks for sharing brother, “Freemasonry unites men of every country, sect, and opinion and conciliates true friendship, among those who might otherwise have remained at a perpetual distance.”
Fraternal greetings from Muskogee # 28, Muskogee, OK. I'm a Master Mason and, with the grace of God , soon to be a candidate for the Scottish Rite this weekend. I am grateful to the GAOTU that I joined Masonry, even though it was a bit late in life. The discussion of never mentioning politics in lodge rings especially true in these crazy times, and out lodge is a welcome sanctuary to the lunacy in the world outside, even if only for an hour or so.
I worked for the city of Dayton..my supervisor got his Scottish rights in the 33rd degree of masonry. He would always tell me never try nothing new on a Friday...And Never return the same way you came. Bur it was just odd to me..of how drawn to me he was .
As a Mason, 32 SR and Shriner, the basis is that we meet on the level too. That applies across everything. That means, you can be a millionaire and I'm in poverty, but in lodge, we meet as equals. We are brothers and not talking about those things is one more example of meeting on the level
Shriners are muslims
If you make it to the 33rd level. You will be told the "true" meaning behind the number 33.
Jesus died at age 33. Jesus performed 33 miracles. Heck, Jesus was born A D. 33. Why so many 33s! Masons will answer that. 🤪👍🤪
Are there many Freemasons in poverty?
I am a 33rd and none of the things you mention are part of the symbology. You’re wrong.
Not talking of something does not respectfully mean you're "meeting on the same level." It also does not equal brotherhood. It typically means avoiding and side stepping uncomfortable conversations.
It means you've set in a code of conduct, to set aside things in a politically correct mode of operation. To keep from offending or causing rift or discord. As we see from topics of religion, sexual orientation, politics, racial ignorance, and whole list of other topics. Ignoring it, does not forge bonds of understanding. It tends to lead to more fights, ignorance and inabilities to live in harmony. We have over 150years of slavery being over. Yet, we're still fighting about ignorance and racial hatred, about things none of us alive today are responsible for.
Not talking of something, does not dismiss it or make it less of a reality or in some instances even offensive. Additionally, communication and common sense help solve more problems or difference of opinions, than does ignoring something.
I can talk to you, or anyone else and have a difference of personal opinion, belief or religion. At the end of the day, we seek to find a middle ground. If not, we can respectfully agree to disagree.
I don't have to ignore you or vice versa, simply because we have a difference of opinion.
If the discussion came to earnings, money, etc...I would be more inclined to help teach someone how to invest, about financial literacy and about how to learn to save more, create a budget and focus on building generational wealth.
If we're a brotherhood, why not help make life easier for a fellow brother and his family, change their life, their financial security, their legacy!
Why not have processes and steps in place to teach and educate? Really get at the source of the problem on how to create equality?
Topics I was not versed in, or made me uncomfortable, be that from lack of knowledge or because it does not align to my beliefs or values. I would listen to a person, hear them out. If there was no common ground of understanding? I would simply say, "sorry, we'll not agree fully on this topic, and to keep from being offensive or beating a dead horse, we can agree to disagree." We can still talk about it at another point and time, no fouls, no harm. But we created a mutual understanding through communication, not avoidance.
Nobody was disrespected, there were no heated arguments or fist fights or gun battles. Just 2 people talking and seeing they could not come to a mutual path of understanding. I can live with that and respect it more than stepping behind a curtain like the Great Oz in the Wizard of Oz.
I accuse people of being intelligent, in every conversation I enter. I leave it up to the person to prove me right or wrong.
Thanks! Really enjoy your content, Freemason in Colorado
Politics and religion are like the 2 most undesirable traits of humanity. Jealousy and envy. It creates hatred, anger, fear loathing. This is the enemy of the dream of the great work
Wait, what were the hand signs you were making in the thumbnail? Why did you choose those particular ones?
To be silly and make people click on the video. Do you not notice that there are 3 hands? These are meant to be entertaining AND informative. Its not an army training film for Goid's sake.
@@ScottishRiteMasons yes I did notice there were three hands and I understand funny thumbnails meant to attract clicks. My question, though, was why did you select those particular hand signs? Like why not any 3 random hand signs? I’m guessing you know those particular ones mean something right?
I chose those because every single anti-Masonic video I’ve ever seen has some version of those hand signs. The hand on the eye? Meaningless in masonry. The hand in the shirt? Meaningless. The finger to the lips means “shhhh” and we use it when past masters talk too much in lodge.
Other than that? I was just being silly.
@@ScottishRiteMasonswhy you capping the hand in your t shirt. They doing this Literally in your rituals😂

Thanks I knew as much but it’s nice to have someone from the organization say it.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, thanks brother. Im from Williamsburg #6 and i recieved my third degree in that very room. Brings back memories from 30 years.
And this was a great topic and something that should be practiced in society at large.
At 4:37 Mark, So glad you said there is only 1 Book of Sacred Law on the Altar. Many Scottish Rite Temples have it wrong! Freemasonry reminds me of my service in the military. There were so many different faiths yet we accomplished a mission without debating religion & politics.
We put several books out during tours, but when lodge is open, only the one that best represents the men in the room
My cousin was in the military and even he criticized the military saying his time In the Middle East was a waste of time.
You can belong to a group and still discuss politics logically.
If free masons cared about bettering mankind then they should have talked to free mason fdr about him stealing and banning gold ownership making everyone a slave to banks and governments printing new currency.
You could even not talk about politics and just talk about printing money as being theft and wrong and not bettering mankind or equality.
no sir, people still talk of the sacred topics. It's just we learned we were all family in the same uniform and branch of service first and foremost. Everything else, came last or was of ZERO matter and value above your military family and brother/sister.
Perfectly explained my brother I love and respect all that you're doing as well I just wanted to add that because you help to guide the new and curious souls may you continue to be blessed though life with health strength wisdom faith and all that you need in this life and the life to come you and your family bless you my brother

Well said 💯 my brother! Glad I found you.
Politics and religion tend to serve only to divide people when we should be coming together. By eliminating these two subjects from discussion, it allows for men of all religious beliefs and political views to sit in the same room, shake hands, and call one another brother. Thank you for sharing and helping others to understand. Too many people share lies and misinformation and others except it as the whole truth
When they operate in secrecy, then there will always be guessing by non members. They should expect this and not be offended.
Religion and politics in the lodge are forbidden. But after lodge with some cigars and whiskey, some friendly debate is always welcome 😁
Thank you I really needed this❤
I get what you saying... but also I want to point out that a friend becomes a true friend when you can talk and disagree with that person on this 2 topics and at the end of the day still being as good friends.
in lodge...there is a reason he keeps saying that...he's saying during a meeting essentially. if we have presidents and other politicians as members then of course we can discuss politics.
We certainly can all do that. But in lodge meetings we just take those chats off the table.
Yeah, I'm an "outsider" but these concepts and principles rang loud from mentors and few friends. Thank you for this!

Am a very curious person and as such, I just found myself Google about freemasonry, and I must confess, my finding was thrilling. I got a totally different picture from what I have believed all this while.
But I also had concerns about about the secrets that have to be kept secret, the informal dinings during ceremonies and the rituals which I didn't get an hint of what the rituals entails.
Otherwise I love what you stand for and believe in.
The secrecy element of masonry is overblown. Its really not what we are about. Coca Cola and KFC have secrets too. Every group does. For some reason masons get beat up about it.
An element of the unknown keeps people curious , some join to learn them , others remain happy to absorb and share speculations.
The more Rituals you do the more stranger it gets, you will even see symbols that were used in Ancient Egypt

Hi, thank you for this video. I joined a traditional observance lodge because I was interested in how the fraternity allows all religious ideas. After the 5 years it took to be raised, I had an issue with another brother and I was forced to demit. Everything happens for a reason. I now know that the bible is an unnecessary text and it’s interesting that even though Freemasonry claims to allow all religions, the fact that if the majority of the lodge is christian and you have to open lodge with the bible that is essentially saying that the bible is somehow superior.
I personally think it’s a sign of weak character if one cannot discuss politics and religion without getting butt hurt. Like grow up and show your sovereignty. It’s a uniting act to say what you think even if it different from others
i like the way you think - all is political in a basic sense-and religion is actually what one does regularly by basic definition. all is one - one is all - my god isn’t in those books anyways- but I do respect the lessons of all of the organizations of faith .
Thank you so much please for the app
awesome my brother! Well done!
I've thought about joining over the years,my Grandfather was a member of the knights of Columbus,an old Freemason once helped me secure work because I am an actual builder, he was always friendly and nice to me
What state do you live in?
@@user-fu1fc7ug6n currently I'm travelling in the USA and am in the midwest but going south to Texas and Louisiana
Knights of Columbus is NOT a Masonic body, but a Catholic fraternal order, as the Catholic faith does not allow men to be Freemasons (although I have known some who were; even one who was both).
Greetings from West Monroe, LA #419! In my lodge, we're all conservative protestants... even then, politics and religion are not discussed. Government is discussed from time to time, but never politics and I find that quite refreshing.
I’ll put it this way. I could sit across from a man whose politics differ 180 degrees from my own. And in the lodge I’d only know him as brother. If we let politics infect our lodges, we’d lose that.
Very well and forcibly said. Freemasonry is not a Religion. Dan Brown in his novel "Angels and Demons" was able to reach millions and in the first chapter he shuts the door on the whole idea that we, as freemasons, have our own religion.
I believe we’re here to become realized and learn to work with all forces of life itself. You are enough. You are loved. Namaste.
Great video brother! Thanks for putting this one together!
Great presentation Brother! You explained it perfectly. There is so much bad information about out fraternity floating out on the web. As a Mason, Scottish Rite Mason and York Rite Mason thank you for putting this information out for everyone.

Very interesting, this is the very first time that I saw someone to explaining what is Masons as I never looked in to masonry before and it was surprise for me as a christian, because when I pray I always pray to creator because it feels logical for me, as we have so many Gods and I was thinking there could be only one Creator.

Scottish rite?
Are you standing four square ? On the level when you offer your hand ✋
@@richardmcgonigle1160 Why do you ask? I don’t know much about the differences between Freemasons and Scottish rite. The only thing I know about my father is what was posted in his obituary. His obituary said He was the master of his lodge in the late 1970s and it also list his lodge number and that he was also a former Kiwanis member, that’s about all I know. 🤷🏻♀️ However, I do know that my second great grandfather was Scottish rite and also fought in Civil War. Mormons do no use the square it's like a chess board .. light and dark.. if you say someone is on the level or on the square it's a way of saying he's a freemason.. and if your are also a Mason you must help him . No true mason would say anything of assort to you, so I am guessing that you came across a “bogus” lodge. There are many out there.
I am sorry to hear that you were told that, Daniel. But you should know, there is no segregation in Masonry. Race is not an issue in Freemasonry. So if that one lodge told you that, don't believe them! They must not be a real chartered Lodge, which means they are not officially Masons. So look nearby in your local area for a Masonic Lodge and inquire about becoming a member there instead.
Good luck, future Brother. Take care sir.

You truly can’t believe that politics is separate from anything.
We do not discuss it in lodge or in Masonic settings. Period.
@TimJSwan I'm not sure if you think we are unpolitical people, or not. Just to be clear, I'm pretty sure that every Mason does hold political views of his own. It's just that we keep our views to ourselves when we meet.
I can tell you of a story involving two civil war soldiers. One Confederate and one Union. during a campaign one side was being overrun and a Mason who was Confederate lay on the ground about to be bayonetted by the Union soldier. A sign was given and the Union soldier who was also a Mason spared the Confederate soldier. Masonry went above politics in this instance.
I don't buy the bayonet story but I do agree that it is not lowed to discuss religion politics and a few other things besides.
Politics and Religion are irrelevant to the Temple of G and Grindr. Most people prefer Grindr because there is no song and dance involved and you can jump straight into action.
Well said Brother!!!
Well said, brother, that was the perfect explanation for the reasons why we don't discuss politics or religion in lodge. As with all your other videos, on point and easy to understand.

The Templars did not become masons. Historically that is inaccurate. There’s a video here somewhere on that. Many people want that to be true. But as of right now we have no evidence at all that it is. Like zero.
Perfect way to sum it all up
Thanks Bro. Maynard! Good information!
You made it plain brother. I’m a proud mason and the first in my family. This has been a great experience for me.

I was surprised that no comment was made that, while no single religion is espoused, a petition for the Degrees requires the candidate to profess a belief in a Supreme Being, one single Creator and Ruler of the Universe. I am a Past Master of two Lodges, currently repeating another year in the East in the one I was raised in, and the immediate Past Venerable Master of my Valley, which celebrated its Centennial last year.
Not all grand lodges require monotheism. Hindu and other polytheistic faiths are welcome on many grand lodges.

Great presentation as always, Bro. Maynard - you take these otherwise complicated topics and make them easy to understand! With only so much time for business and/or Masonic Education during a Lodge Meeting, any discussion of politics will surely hijack this precious time we have. Or religion. In particular, non-mainstream religions as a fundamentalist will surely create contention where non existed. Nice to see some Lodges willing to have other VSL on the altar, although not the norm. Keep up the good work on sharing the Light! /G\

Yes Brother Great job beautiful content! I have only been a Mason Officially for 5 months, but there is nothing more uplifting than entering my lodge or studying our literature and feeling the spirit in the midst. The silence on those things is to keep us United and focused on the goals of the lodge in sound mind for the benefit of everyone who accepts and receives. In the Bible God even allowed Joseph to abide in the house of pharaoh and assist him although they had different religious ideals. And GAOTU is a more than appropriate term, all things in physical and spiritual existence are designed, crafted, and manifested by the Almighty. We as men and masons are also able to design, craft, and manifest things in our level of ability and understanding. As masons we understand the God puts everything together and guides us to build better versions of ourselves, families, and communities. So mote it be!
It’s not a religion we just make everyone pray before and after every meeting😂 who’s buying this bs?
City councils are also not a religion. Neither are state dinners or High School graduations, and yet about 90% of them include a prayer or invocation.
You don't have to bow your head if you don't want to.
Even though all the Chaplin is doing is wishing we open in unity, conduct in peace and good will, and close in harmony so we may continue on.
But if you want to think other thoughts while the Chaplin is reading the prayer, then so be it. As long as they are not evil thoughts. Lol
It's not a religion but considering all Masons are required to profess a belief in Deity, it stands to reason that we all have some form of Faith or Gnosis which is another tie that binds us.
Great message. Thanks Robert

Traditionally... 13 also happens to be the number of times you loop the rope around the S shape made when tying off a hangman’s noose.
Probably nothing to do with Freemasonry...
just some trivia if it ever comes up in a pub quiz or something 😉
Funnily enough... 13 also happens to be the number of times you loop the rope around the S shape made when tying off a hangman’s noose 🤷♂️
Oh and you were 13 years old once?
mmm 13 is a bakers dozen?
That’s a dozen+1 and there is a story behind the reason for that too!
I know no more 🙏
Haha random thought... 13 is a bakers dozen?
A dozen+1 and there is a story behind the reason for that too ✌️
@@transatlanticsilkcottonfabricsy3a 😂he sold 12 and kept one back for himself
Excellent video.
Well said brother
I was introduced to freemasonry primarily through Manly P. Hall and through Albert Pikes "Morals&Dogmas". Whatever gibberish is spoken out there against freemasonry (and there are no forests without pigs) it would be a mistake from us as a people if we don't learn something about same.
Albert pikes morals and dogma says different...lusifer the light bearer is the god of freemasons...maybe if this guy was part of the club we are not in he would know that....just a 32nd degree goham...
Morals and Dogma doesn’t say that. And I am not a 32nd degree. I am a Knight commander of the court of honor. You are misinformed about freemasonry. ~ME
@@ScottishRiteMasons maybe it was in Manley p halls book.
No. It was not. It was a book by Leo Taxil and it’s part of the Taxil Hoax. Don’t take me at my word. Simply Look it up.
Also I think Manly P. Hall was a kook.
Very informative brother . .. !
Better explanation than I was ever given during any of the initiation proceedings.
