But since you are the main protagonist you have plot armor and the game automatically rewinds to the most recent checkpoint. Which means Garuda 1 is unkillable.

Happened to me once in Ace Combat 5 in the mission Desert Arrow, where I crashed on the Yuktobanian KC-10.
