- Friends! This episode was so fun to record. My friend, Emily Morrow (AKA: Really Very Crunchy) drove all the way from Kentucky with her family to stay with us for a weekend to celebrate at my Hard Is Not the Same Thing as Bad book launch party. While she was here, we sat down to chat about all things internet fame (hers, not mine), DMs, the origin of her account, finding and making lasting friendships, motherhood, Emily’s new book, and so much more.
Is she really very crunchy? Does she mouth tape? What was she really thinking when I slathered her son in lavender oil after he got into his first ever bed of fire ants? (Ugh, Texas, c’mon!)

She introduced me to so many crunchy things in a joking way that I then looked into!
I always thought crunchy mom was a joke and was faking it in the short skits I saw. Seeing her being real and just talking like a normal person has really humanized her in my eyes. Thank you both for making content that brings more humanity to my life. Glad to see the truth.

I watched this hoping to learn more about Emily.. I didn't know Abbie when I clicked to watch. I feel like Abbie interviewed herself throughout the entire chat and that doesn't make me want to subscribe. I only heard a bits of what we already knew about Emily. She was very polite to Abbie, but I could tell from her body language that she was very likely thinking/feeling the same..
I came to hear more from Emily and did become curious through this interview if the interactions were common for her platform.

I had no idea Emily was religious, that's not my cup of tea but I really enjoyed this podcast, you both seem like great, kind people. I would love some genuine, non-comedy crunchy mom videos to help beginners transition into this lifestyle, it can be quite overwhelming to know where to go and what to look for
I think the more you get into it, the more overwhelming it becomes lol.
It sounds like her book would be a great start!

This was so fun and brought back lots of memories of HSing my now 20-something’s. I’ll be praying for both of you as you manage your homes and raise your children.
I had a memory of my 3 year old daughter, now 25, visiting my mom in South Texas. She got in a mound of fire ants and didn’t know to get out. She was covered in bites before they were able to throw her in the shower and get them off. Hard lessons for our baby.
please in the future let the guests talk more than you, because you almost seem uninterested of what she had to say and that you were waiting for any moment to be “ ur turn ”

I agree with someone else's comment when they said they came here for Emily, but mostly heard the interviewer talk about herself. I found it funny that during the interview she accused other people of being "very me" focused. It seemed that all she did was turn everything into a reason to talk about herself. Emily has such a large following and this interview was actually a big opportunity for this channel, you wouldn't think so from watching this interview. Emily kept it classy and seems like a genuine person.
I think she handled this more like a normal conversation than an interview. I think she just forgot that it was an interview, I wouldn't say this was inappropriate for a conversation though. She must've just been excited to sit down and actually speak with her friend in person 😂
Sometimes it felt like Emily couldn't get a word in! This was hard to watch.
My mom was a crunchy mom and I will hopefully be a crunchy mom too. Emily has helped me realize that its ok to be crunchy too and it isn't something to hide or be ashamed of.
I don't think people really think it's anything to be ashamed of, in and of itself. It seems to be when that line gets crossed from doing what you do, to using what you do to feel superior to others. In my experience, if you aren't shaming others for their choices, you probably won't feel shamed yourself.

It's an older reference to a highly difficult woman. My parents' generation used it frequently for a woman with a Nurse Ratched type of personality: domineering, strict and demanding. And they are usually older women as someone said, but not always.

Loved loved this!! ❤ Emily I've been following you on Instagram for a while and I love your crunchy stuff but I always wondered is this lady as crazy in real life as she sounds.😂😂 I would say I'm pretty crunchy to inside my home but I take a chill pill or 2 when I leave my house. Out of respect for others. Although I do sometimes feel like crap eating and smelling there gross stuff.

If you’re not a conspiracy theorist, and you make a video skit about conspiracy theorist conversations, aren’t you just making fun of conspiracy theorists?
This is saddening. Part of what makes you so charming to people is you seem really authentic.
Conspiracy theorists are people too, and just because what they say sounds crazy to you, it doesn’t give you a license to poke fun at their expense. Trust me, their families have already probably turned on them, and when they watch this type of content, it affirms the family’s decision to do so.
