Self-service and automation are taking over, and I'm not sure we're ready for it yet. From my frustrating experience with Taco Bell's new AI chatbot to the shocking announcement that 400 Taco Bell locations will no longer have indoor dining, this episode covers it all. I went to Target 🎯 the other day looking for an extension cord. I couldn’t find one, so I asked one of the 20 something yr old employees where I might find one. He had no clue what I was talking about. I’m dead serious. He asked me to explain to him what an extension cord is used for. 😑 After explaining what it is, he had to ask another employee for help. Unbelievable! I finally looked it up online while still in the store and was able to find one. God help us.
Pay with $2 bills 🥳🤣🤣🤣 they love that one. I always order $400 sleeve from my bank to do such. I prob should do the same with Sacajawea dollars. 🤔

I’m an old fart but when I was a kid Taco Bell had brick benches outside that circled a fire pit. You ate outside by the fire. And you could eat like a fricken King for a couple of bucks.

Easom hardware, Sebastopol, Mississippi. Septic tanks to roofing, horse tack to dishwashers; plus they deliver appliances and set them up for you. Good old fashioned service.
The last time, AUG 2021, I went to an Ace Hardware, the unmasked manager, told me I could not shop there unless I wore a mask. Why?
Because he heard ... someone ... in my family ... tested positive for COVID.
I lived alone at that time, and don't know to what family he was referring.
For multiple reasons, I cannot further restrict my breathing.
I never returned to that store.
DIY centers are great also.
Very helpful at Ace Hardware Store but prices are a bit higher than Home Depot.
I'm sick and tired of speaking to robots over every little thing. They don't understand crap. I try to speak to a representative and it doesn't understand anything. A minor question takes hours.

When i want to speak to a human on the phone I talk in a garbled mixed up manner. Often the bot will say "Let me get you a representative" Works most of the time.
We’ve had bad service for years. Most Service Centers or Call Centers are now located in India. Most of the people who work there learned to speak English yesterday.
They took American jobs. Since then, Americans pay fell like a plane falling out of the sky.

It's all a lead up to closing all stores. This is why they let crime run rampant. They need an excuse.
I stopped eating at our town steak and shake years ago because you have to order with a kiosk. This will be another nail in the chain food coffin.

Ordered a hedge trimmer from Amazon in France to be delivered to our holiday home, but the delivery for today was cancelled last minute and a message from UPS to come pick it up 2 1/2 hours drive from my house ! The funny part of this story is the first one I ordered from a tool store was stolen by the Amazon driver who delivered another parcel to me , got him on my trusty CCTV 😂

I miss the days of going into a Hardware store and actually get help from some Sales person who actually knew exactly what I was looking for and even how to applied it,if I had questions! And they actually had the parts that I needed in stock! These days it's just sad!
The Sears tool department was always full of retired men who knew about every tool in the department. The lawn and garden guys did too.

Yes, yes they are. California 2023 employment monthly statistics were all wrong (lies) as is shown by annual report that came out this week.

Its simply the number of people out looking for work from month-to-month, so it really isn't a comparison to another stat (like how many are employed). Don't take it too seriously as it can vary wildly depending on where you live.

Dan, talking about Hooters. I'm in Clearwater, FL. I was about 20 years old when the original Hooters opened here in Clearwater, on Gulf to Bay Blvd. It's still there. Me and some friends stocked an Albertsons at night right down the street. That original Hooters used to be a biker bar. Some locals bought it for a meeting place. When Hooters first opened, me and boys would go there at 11:00am, after work. They didn't even have their liquor license yet. They could serve us beer but couldn't charge us for it. So we paid in tips. We loved that place and the original Hooters girl Lynne Austin was serving us. She hung out with us a lot. I had a boat and we'd take her and her friends out on the Gulf of Mexico and hit the beaches. It was some good times!
We had to buy a new kitchen faucet. Went to Lowe’s and spoke to a guy who knew what he was talking about. It was great and we ended up buying a more expensive one than we thought we wanted ,based on his experience.
Which AI could never duplicate.

It’s ALREADY happened. My home and car warranty is ALL AI now. can’t get a live person. only chat bot or put your number or email on and a bot denies your claim on F basis! I’m cancelling them both and will self insure.
The home warranty texted that a VIRTUAL TECH is scheduled to look at my AC in 2 WEEKS! It’s 110 degrees here! This is crazy

In 2025 SSA(social security administration) will fully implement AI, they have been working on it for two years now. One of the things it will do is screen for disability benefits.
The UK did this in the last few years, 100s of thousands were erroneously denied their benefits. An employee whose job it was to detect problems and discrepancies with the AI was ignored and silenced (eventually fired) about the magnitude of the problems. She had to sue the government in court to get it corrected.

I think you are exactly right about people driving instead of flying. I'm an aviation buff and have read stories over the last few weeks about how major carriers have stopped hiring for pilots. They know the downturn is coming.

In the late 1980s to 1990s there were both a Hooters and a Coco's Restaurant near each other along the 405 freeway near Fountain Valley. Coco's had the best breakfasts then and Hooters gave new purpose to love of the color orange!

It’s been going on. My Mom is blind and recently not well. I have to handle most of her affairs now since my stepfather died. It’s ridiculous how Everyone expects you to use this. It has been more of a headache and greatly more inefficient than the old methods. Government agencies and AI plus automation = headache and never getting it accomplished until the third round.

Yes, they’re closing down all of the walk-ins McDonald’s Taco Bell everything you all ordered online. Have it delivered or pick up or drive-through. No more going in store. And a lot of retail stores are doing the same thing. They’re closing their doors. They’re going to compete online other retail store , so let’s take Walmart for instance, bye-bye and store, they don’t have to give you deals anymore thank you. Call them deals on their website, but they don’t have to be the deals any longer to get people to come into the store member Kmart? I don’t go any place I shouldn’t go. I mean, I do go on my mobile banking, but I don’t keep that on my phone actually go to the website and login. And I make sure the website is legit.
I get that all the time all of a sudden my phone will just shut off or things freeze up. And it isn’t anything to do with scams or infected phone.
Another thing is true don’t give cell phone number to anybody you’re better off to go and pay whatever it is 30 dollars a year and get yourself a magic jack go to give yourself phone out because you just give it to one wrong person or somebody can track you and Bam. They’ve sold it and everyone hasn’t scammed phone calls from everybody every scammer in the world.

Many people are more careful what they eat. It very simple to go shopping and cook at home. if need to eat while your out, pack a lunch. but smarter folks prefer to get hungry, as a 'fasting period' because it more healthy to eat less. "break-fast' is absolutely a no no, along with snacking.. One full meal/day, Dan. It costs less and you live longer with the right foods.
THIS! Omad (one meal a day) along with juicing has been a life changer for me!

An elderly neighbor had unclear hospital discharge info. Helping her call the hospital one line was AI, identified as this is AI with inadequate options. Another hospital phone number had a voice-mail recording letting employees know which shifts needed coverage asking employees to fill shifts. Not much help. Let's hope 911 doesn't use AI to answer the phone

All of it makes me nostalgic for the ease in which these things used to just work. Your right, it just seems like a shell of what used to be and I don't think too many people enjoy communicating with ai over dealing with people. The other day I used cash instead of a card and it was twice as fast as usual and I just had to wait for the cashier to count out the change, which I didn't mind. What about the taxes that are paid into our state parks? Can I collect if I buy a state park? 😁 Is Delete me the same thing as a VPN? Can I ask where your walking? It looks nice and peaceful.

It's eventually going to be one dude, inside a compact labyrinth of robotic arms and conveyors, fixing and correcting things working 12 hour shifts. Getting paid about 30 an hour to be onsite robotic and computer repair men.

I had to deal with that fast food order crap at a White Castle in Indiana last week... I repeated my order FOUR TIMES to the stupid automated computer voice at the drive-up speaker, and it still didn't get it... I said "Screw it", pulled out of line, and waved at the guy at the pick-up window as I drove by. I waved to him again as I pulled into the McDonalds right next door. A few minutes later, as I got my McDonalds order, I thanked the McDonalds employee for being Human.
Those workers were glad you left. Lol nobody cares like you...

Just love how everything you do now, you have to give feedback on, whether on the phone or text. When they hire me as human resource I will do it....and only then. My rate is $100 per hour, minimum 1 hour!

Big chain companies pay attention to what's going on and have been anticipating the push for higher minimum wages. Everything is going to be mechanized, AI will take your order and a robot will prepare your meal, the only people you'll see will be a manager and maybe a kid in the back who keeps an eye on everything and occasionally comes out and sweeps the floor.
Why are we using anything automated? As of now, I will fight it as long as possible.
