That fxcking sound. First time I saw one as a kid…of course I tried to poke it with a stick as humans do, and that noise made me think twice. I came home telling my dad I saw an alien species and described it. He laughed and told me what it was
Hitting them with a stick can be noxious if you are under them. Cicadas often squirt some piss when they are under attack. So that piss can land on you. I assume it's a defensive attack into the mouth of an attacker trying to eat it.
For those of you who don't know: This cicada is the Superb Dog-Day Cicada, Neotibicen superbus. It is mainly found in Texas and Oklahoma, with sparse populations in Mexico. Though this cicada is primarily found in Texas and Oklahoma, its range has gradually spread and it can now also be found in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, and Missouri. This cicada cannot be found east of the Mississippi River.
Also found in Iowa, are used to go to Iowa every summer as I was screwing up and my grandmother collect the shells after they had chatted that was my summer routine was collecting the shells and listening to them every night they used to creep me out.
@@marceld8961 yeah that's true. They are attracting the females. And different types of them subspecies whatever the term would be. Make different noises. There was a really excellent technical video on youtube. This may have been the one or maybe another one I don't remember. Thanks 👍
@CAROLDDISCOVER-FINDER2525 Yeah, I'm from Michigan. The most common type of cicadas in my area are the Dog Day Cicada ( Neotibicen Canicularis), Scissor Grinder Cicada ( Neotibicen Pruinous), Linne's Cicada (Neotibicen Linnei), and the Swamp Cicada ( Neotibicien Tibicien). I just moved to Texas about a year ago and have seen this exact type of cicada in this video. I'm not sure what species it is, and there is another Cicada species I hear in Texas.
I live in illinois and the 17 year thing is so real. It is terrifying. They are everywhere out in the country, you can even hear the noise in your home. I thought the world was going to end when it happened last time when I was a kid

Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will ill change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future.
