Best overall high school wrestling in the country is in the Lehigh Valley - Easton, Nazareth, Northampton, Quakertown, Bethlehem Catholic, Stroudsburg, Notre Dame, Saucon Valley, with Phillipsburg NJ being right over the boarder. You'd be hard pressed to find better HS wrestling focused in a small geographic area anywhere else.
Southwestern PA did marginally better at the AAA state tournament this year. The North East region got 407 as opposed to South Westâs 583 team points. Almost all of the North Eastâs points were attributed to Becahi and Nazareth, with 244 team points just from those two schools.
@@cormacm6468 Yeah, I lived a bit south of the Valley (Upper Gwynedd Township) for the bulk of the 90s. It amazed me how good the wrestling was in such a small area. Taking my kids to all the youth tournaments back in the day, going to the high school matches. Those Nazareth-Northampton duals were 'barn burners'.
@@philr182 I wrestled the Easton, Northampton, Reynolds, Bald Eagle Area etc schools at the Manheim Holiday Tourny many years ago. Some damn good wrestling in the area for sure.
Its not the most, but most championship in ncaa.Gotta think Wisconsin in there somewhere, with the Askren bros championships
Totally agree. I wrestled for Parkland and the competition was and is insane. District XI probably is the toughest district in the nation.
What happened to Ed Ruth? Blair Academy...3x National Champ @ Penn St
You're correct - Ruth attended Blair for a year, but he also won 2 PIAA State medals at Susquehanna Township. Those are some of the guys that make the stats a bit crazy.
Phattygoodness he fights in Bellator I believe

@@FancoWrestling do another video like this for "best high school wrestling teams"!
Mt.Carmel should be climbing soon ,they have a couple kids #1 country, could develop in college!
Blair and Bergen Catholic are gonna have some national champions the next few years
Wyoming Seminary!!!
I competed against Sunnyside here in AZ, they had some very tough and disciplined wrestlers.
Keep up the good work my man, love seeing these videos and updating my knowledge of the sport.
We probably couldn't deal with some schools in PA/NY and maybe CA, but I am proud of my heritage at Bedford Senior HS in Temperance, Michigan. We turned on a state dynasty from the middle 1970's until just a while ago. My senior year of 1984 we had 6 wrestlers in the state finals. Two champions and four second placers. We were a wrecking crew, all from a little town just over the Ohio line with a graduating class of less than 250. All home grown kids with NO RECRUITING. We blew the top off records for state tournaments. Most takedowns, most points scored in a state tournament........a huge list.
Would love to see an update on this. Sunnyside AZ now has three since 1999 with RBY winning last season. They also had one prior to 1999 with Eddie Urbano.
Now Sunnyside has three in Apple Valley has three after this yearâs finals thatâs kind of cool good job on doing your work though I appreciate your videos keep up the good work
Walsh Jesuit, not Wheeling. Lol
Wheeling jesuit was a college that was D2 runners up a few years ago. They are now just Wheeling. Got rid of their program for a year.
@@Robert1546_Sea thanks for the info. I did not know that. I thought he was talking about the iron man tournament. Walsh Jesuit.
@@chadroberts3727 he was, just saying he probably googled something like "Jesuit Wrestling" and Wheeling Jesuit came up. The year they were national runners up, not even very long after the National Dual tournament, they did away with their program. Everyone left and most went to a neighboring school, and they brought the program back this year, but I don't think it's anywhere near what it used to be. They were amazing at recruiting some real nice kids on their team. Several guys who most expected to be good contributors to D1 programs. Just a little side info on the program.
@@Robert1546_Sea well I'm glad they brought it back. I love to hear it. Wrestling programs are paramount to build schools and great for communities!
@@Robert1546_Sea Tyler Warner
Great content!
Correction on Nathan Tomasello and Joe Heskett. Tomasello went to CVCA (Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Heskett went to Walsh Jesuit (not Wheeling Jesuit).
Both of these high schools are directly across the street from each other.
Youâre forgetting Linn Mar high school in Iowa that produced 2 individuals winning NCAA champions. Matt McDonough winning 2 and Jay Borschel winning one. So 3 ncaa Championship for Linn Mar HS.
Iowa high school wrestling in 2021...meh...
this was a good article. but i believe another high school should be mentioned, unless i missed it. linn mar high school in iowa had 2 wrestlers from their high school earn 3 national titles between them. matt mcdonough and jay borschel. and in 2010 they won them together, which means of the 10 individual titles, linn mar had 2 of them. i think that is incredible. would be interested to know how many times that has happened, more than 1 title for a high school in the same year.
I had the pleasant experience of competing in the Eagle Holiday Classic in VA. One of the toughest national tourny's at the time in its first 2 years in existence. Walsh Jesuit, St. Edwards, Blair along with VA's own nationally ranked teams (Great Bridge, Grundy and Christianburg) along with a couple other top 50 teams in the nation were in this tourny. At the time, Great Bridge and Blair were ranked 1 and 2. Blair ran away with it. I didn't win a single match either of those two years in that tournament.
Being a former highschool and div 2 college wrestler I really enjoy ur content. Only those of us that wrestled can appreciate the sport for what it is. I'm from Connecticut and wrestling has never been very popular here. We have one powerhouse hs and that's Danbury. They're pretty much the best team in my state every year. I was always curious to see how they would stack up against other state powers. Thanks for the info and keep up the good work
I'm from Windham. Yes when you talk about CT wrestling Danbury is the top top dog. They have even won New Englands 3 of the last 4 years. We have stepped it up with multiple All Americans over the last 15 years. Right now Danbury has Jakob Camacho, AJ Kovacs and Ryan Jack wrestling for the NC State Wolfpack.
St. Ed's just had an All-American streak of over 30 years as NCAA wrestlers. How does that not make a program #1. I believe that the only other schools that share that are Iowa and Penn State.
How bout the schools with the most NCAA placers... To me that would be the best overall HS wrestling program
this list should be â public high schoolsâ.... where kids grew up in the same town.
I live in NJ. you canât count Blair ! they are a national power prep.... these kids come from all over the country. they are no different then a D1 program
Last Year NJ produced 5 Division I NCAA Wrestling Champions and a runner up. Six wrestlers in the finals..Enough said.
Plus Blair wrestlers are ALL in NJ for the most formative learning and competition years of their lives...THEY ARE NEW JERSEY, THEY COUNT, JERSEY BEST STATE.
I agree.
Growing up in NY that was part of the drama and fun of it.
Hearing stories or rumors about someone(pre internet) from out on long island ,upstate NY or Jersey and PA and how good they are.
Speculating Which schools were a threat at tournaments and which guys were the top in the tri state at their weight.
Some top Guys that would only get to wrestle each other at the states or tournaments.
I miss those days it was a lot of fun.
Reread the title of the video. This isn't the most champs from public schools. It's the most champs from high school. Blair is a high school. The point of the video is literally to inform you where the most champs come from. If he didn't have Blair on the list, everyone would be misinformed. This is important information for parents and their kids that want to be in the number 1 program. That's Blair no matter how you twist or chop it up. Get over it.
Mocco!!!
As of recent, Apple Valley hs in MN have seth gross, mark hall and yet to be ncaa champion, Gable Steveson
Matt Demeray.. Apple valley Minnesota.. 2 time national champ at Wisconsin
Linn Mar High School in Marion Iowa. Jay Borschel and Matt McDonough.
The Smith family from Del City, Oklahoma had 7 NCAA titles, not to mention 2 Olympic gold medals and 4 world championships.
Pretty impressive. Donât forget the first 4 time winner also.
Had run ins with some kids from a few of these schools đ
Same, I had the pleasant experience of competing in the Eagle Holiday Classic in VA. Counting Blair maybe but if you don't count Blair than PA had the most
Represent.
@@Fullsendfilosophy I think you may be on the wrong thread.
@@danarmando537 I think you're a first year to wrestling
@@Fullsendfilosophy Nice try.
My high school is westlake high school and Iâm in middle school but I have seen st. Edâs wrestle against some of our high school guys and they are crazy and they destroy everyone. One of our guys who almost placed at states in 8th grade is at saint Edwards and heâs not even JV or varsity, he is Freshmen. Also most of the varsity guys place in states. They are a crazy team, well at least coming from my experience.
St. Edâs should have gotten more love. Their streak of D1 AA is unbelievable
I love how you kept dising Iowa when coming up with states that have great wrestling high school.
Crown Point, IN
Crown Point Highschool has recently 1 champion being Jason Tsirtsis that I know of for sure. Crown Point also currently has the Ohio State commit Jesse Mendez. This school has many great wrestlers and State Titles. One of the best, if not the best, high schools in Indiana
Montini in Illinois produces Beasts.đȘđȘđȘ
People, he clearly explained this video is specifically the most NCAA champs from high school. Not the best non-prep school, not the best school that doesn't recruit, etc. If a parent is watching this video and wants to know the answer to that simple question, the answer is Blair Academy. I've wrestled against that team twice. Their B team is better than most schools in the nation, let alone their starters. He answered the question perfectly and even gave you the top schools so you can look at number 2 or 3 if Blair bothers you so much that you want to ignore their accomplishments. No need to bash the video or say stupid comments, like "Blair doesn't count." It absolutely does count if you're a high school wrestler/parent and want the best program.
I am surprised Montini high school in Illinois didnât produce more they always have multiple state champs.
Illinois kids haven't panned put. But I think that changes this year
@@campitts9356 True if you know Dylan Ragusin from Michigan heâs gonna be a problem
Linn-Mar IA has 2 national champs in the same season. Matt McDonough and Jay Borschel for Iowa in 2010
awesome well done....Daison has another on the way...in Facundo
A far more impressive stat is which High School produced the most all Americans. And if you go back 40 years to 1979, the clear winner is Lakewood st. Edward's out of Ohio
Agree
Jeff Ayers 40 years straight of producing D1 All-Americans is AMAZING! Ppl donât want to talk about that for some reason
Valley Stream Central and Mepham on Long Island deserve honorable mention
You can add Joe Williams to Mt. Carmel and 3 more national titles
Mt Carmel also produced tony Davis and the Williams
Before the weight changes I think.
Just saw this but Alan Fried won an ncaa title in 1994, went to st. Edâs
I guessed Iowa. Hasn't that always been the capital of wrestling? Then there are states like Missouri, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ohio,.Minnesota, and Michigan, but the last two weren't big for wrestling when I was in school - the rest are where most of the legends come from, everyone knows that.
Iowa was the Mecca in college wrestling, but Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey produce the most All Americans.
the capital of high school wrestling is, and has always been, Pennsylvania ...itâs not particularly close, either
Look into St. Paris Graham in Ohio. Jeff Jordan retired in â18 but they beat D1 schools and tournaments as D2 classifications. Every kid wrestled their own style. It is a factory for taking your style and making you the best at it. They intimidated Blair at the Ironman.
Iâve been to the Jordan camp multiple times great camp
@@carsoncorcoran6487 I went to both JRob, and Jeff Jordan camps. Jordanâs was absolutely insane. Didnât start wreslting till HS pretty much. Hit that camp junior year of HS and my experience went up by 3-4 years simply based on the technical angles and outlooks the provided.
I wrestled heavyweight at Arrowhead from 6th grade though high school graduation in 2015, started my sophomore-senior year. I know Ben and Max and went to their academy the first two years it opened. Didn't wrestle in college, wasn't in the cards for me, but I go to back and coach over Christmas.
There are 2 or 3 guys that either will he freshman next fall or will be in college within the next year or so that have what it takes to become national champions.
You called it with Keegan OâToole
@@LebronisgoodMJsuckz oh wow i totally forgot I had posted this lol. Watching him win the title was awesome. There was one time I had gone back to coach over Christmas, it was his junior year I think, and he had an injury. The rest of the varsity squad had gone to a tournament and not only was he at practice that night he coached the JV squad that practice. Went over some fundamentals stuff and a few tricks of the trade. That's when I knew he was gonna go and do great things. Not only is he a phenomenal wrestler and athlete, but has a great head on his shoulders. Super chill to chat with, very down to earth.
Keegan was my top choice at that time.
I think if he keeps he performs like he has been, keeps improving his game, and with a little bit of luck he can be a 4 timer, then go on and be a multi time world champion. Maybe even an Olympic champion if that is what he wants to pursue, which it looks like it might be.
Hilton high school! Produced Yianni and will also produce future stars Greg and Elijah D!
I dont think Greg will win won but will be all american
Cut YT I think he will win at least two. He wonât have immediate success like his brother but he has a lot of skill
Missed a couple: Ed Ruth Blair, Kellen Russell Blair. That adds two more individual and 5 more titles.
He said Russell and Ruth won 2 titles at Susquehana township so he didn't want to inflate the states
@@paytonsmutz2079 Two problems with that Russell never wrestled for Susquehana and wrestled all four years for Blair I believe, and two it doesn't matter if they wrestled somewhere else too Blair would still get credit as well as the other HS as long as they officially competed for both. The thing about stats are either they are right or wrong, there is no gray. So the stats presented on this video though interesting are incorrect unfortunately.
@@TheRednose3269 You misread what Payton said. He is saying Russell is in the video and Ruth is who went to Susquehana. The reason for leaving Ruth out goes along with the point of the video...which high schools are producing the most champs...not which champs attended what high school...two different things. His list more accurately represents the fact that Ruth's development wasn't 100% due to his training at Blair. He was already winning titles before he went there. However, I personally would have mentioned him and simply would have thrown in that caveat. There really is nothing unfortunate about this video other than the comments.
@@Inflightmuzik no you misread it, and no the stats were not correct. You're right about the comments, ironically your comment specifically.
TheRednose3269 cool story with nothing backing anything you just said. I see you have trouble reading and you think bass ackwards. Feel free to have the last word here. I doubt you say anything productive to make your point.
I wrestled in Idaho. Sandpoint was well known to be the toughest wrestling school in the state.
Apple Valley's former coach responsible for these guys is now with Shakopee. They are the new "Apple Valley" for Minnesota wrestling. Keep an eye on them.
Blake West was 31-0 this year, he could be an NCAA champion. And fun fact, Blake went to Owatonna, another powerhouse before he moved after he got into some trouble. So if he wins a national title, that should count for Owatonna as well.
Apple Valley is the first school that came to mind.. Im a former state champ in Minnesota.
@@paulenger4494 Cool, cool. I did recently learn that Jim Jackson (AV and Shakopees former coach) retired. The state tournament this year was as open as I have ever seen it.
St Edâs streak is more impressive than any of it. I highly doubt any high school will duplicate.
You gotta make an edit to this video. You missed one big one. St. Paris Graham in St. Paris, Ohio. It's a public school and they have 3 titles since '99. Two from David Taylor and one from Dustin Schlatter. They would/will have had 1 more from Alex Marinelli. Add that to the 19 straight state titles and 3 national championships and you have a pretty damn good program.
Surprised st Parris Graham didn't even make it on the list I heard there have been some Hodge trophies won from alumni there
Full Send Filosophy yeah I agree they had all of the Jordan family
@@wilsonwright390 They also had this one guy I've heard was okay. I think his name was David Taylor? Something like that.
@@wilsonwright390 Also had the meanest guy still wrestling in college Alex Marenelli
Im from Urbana which is like 15 minutes east of there and Graham is in our conference (the CBC aka central buckeye conference)
@Jesus is Fake 0
Nice vid
Great info what about high school that has had the most olympians team members?
Nice to see Sunnyside
Don't forget that Ed Ruth also attended Blair.
St. Paris Graham produced 3 NCAA champs off the top of my head. Jim Jordan 2x, David Taylor 2x and Dustin Schlatter. Many AA finishers as well. A plethora of Jordans, Kyle Ott, Alex Marinelli, and so many more.
Schlatter did his final two years of HS at Perry so did St. Paris Graham really produce him?
Jim Jordan titles were in the 80âs - this list was 1999-2019
I believe Mark Hall wrestled at Davison HS, then finished HS at Apple Valley.
Steve mocco was one of my coaches back in club
From american top team?
@@thetruest4795 yes
Best Public School is Easton, Pa. Recently Nazareth and Bethlehem Catholic are dominant, however in the last 40 years Easton has the most championships.
Apple Valley used to have 10-11 kids out of 14 in the individual finals every season, Mark Hall won 6 state team titles and 6 individual titles, to bad we couldnât keep him in Minnesota
Sounds like Montini in Illinois ,won 5 championships in a row, state moved them up to next class,3 in a row and still counting.Always 6or7 in championships. Might change now with Izzy out of there.
Jesuit is in Wheeling,Wv
Alex Facundo is gonna add a couple more for Davison in a few years.
Bergen Catholic 3 NCAA Champions- Nick Suriano, Shane Griffith And Aj Ferrari
Pretty sure this isnât accurateâŠ.Edâs has 4 champs I count, Bertin, heil, fried, heffernan
Thereâs a few towns in Iowa that eat, Sleep, And dream wrestling
Graham High School in Ohio.... get your stats straight.
Paris
Graham High School (St. Paris, Ohio)
They recruit as well
Walsh Jesuit High School across the road is Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy both Ohio
You also forgot to add a local wpial team Waynesburg Central 2 national champions since 1999 Coleman Scott 2008 who also became a bronze medalist in the Olympics and Josh koscheck I believe 2001 national Champion out of edinboro
@Colton Stoneking uncle Alvin was just bragging about you! We're rooting for ya!
I love this channel. It saves me money from having to subscribe to Flowrestling or Intermat.
Joe Williams also wrestled at Mt. Carmel...Joe Williams won 3 titles.
ryan thatâs was before 2000
Troy and Terry Steiner from Century High in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Izzy style wrestling from Illinois is also pretty good. Surprised they werenât on this list.
izzy isnt highschool, its offseason stuff. but yeah, my training partner wrestled with em til he decided to go d3 senior year and have fun with it.
Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia are hot beds for wrestling. Something around there in the water because they produce some studs out of there.
Granby High School, VA produced 7 National Champions and 3 Olympians, believe 1 won the gold. But that was during the 50's o late 60's time period.
Some people really thought it might be NJ?!?!?! New Jersey has too many small high schools. I believe PA has the largest high school in the nation. I was betting on Iowa, OK or PA! Congratulations Michigan!
Most schools donât produce a single oneâŠ. But if your talking high school, some of those who donât have a single one are the most dominant in their state. Still, anyone can beat anyone on any given dayâŠ..
You should check out paulsboro in new Jersey
Missed Waynesburg Central in Pa, they has Josh Koscheck and Coleman Scott
crazy how dominant blair is.
Pretty cool information. I'm not sure the ncaa titles makes much sense since it is a team that wins it.
He's talking about the individual NCAA titles for each weight class.
Wasn't Joe Williams from Mount Carmel as well?
The question i have is what division are these schools? The best division meaning competitive speaking. Some of these school could be class C schools. Meaning not as much competition
I'm liking Franklin Regional from PA.
Can we get an updated video?
If Mark Hall didn't move out of Michigan, he would've went to Davison.
Allen in tx now has 2 champs and 3 titles Bo nickel and AJ ferrari
Kinda mind blown that Massillon Perry wasnât on here. Steve Luke, Dustin Schlatter, and I believe a few others.
Franklin Regional is more a football school than a wrestling school. I think they had a 3 or 4 state championships in a row.
Ironman isnât at Wheeling Jesuit. Itâs Walsh Jesuit lol
âMaybe thereâs something in the water in Idahoâ maybe thereâs a good coach in Idaho. Ever heard of Chris Owens???
Nope
Ryan Ber-Teen is the pronunciation
Are we talking private schools or public schools? There's a huge difference between the 2. But i come from a highschool thats very small and they just won their 22nd state wrestling championship. Competed in Reno tournament of champions. Beast of the East and WildWood national dual. To be such a small area yet to produce such a quality wrestling program is an achievement of its own. Just dont have the backing that a lot od other areas get. Mainly those in the north east
Blair, Nazareth, Bergen Cathloic.
Where did you go to High School? Are you surprised that your school did/didn't make the list?
đŽ UPDATE: (4:13) This high school is Walsh Jesuit, Wheeling Jesuit is a D2 school!
D2, not D3.
See.... you donât know who is a high school and who is a college.
The true test would be a 50 year total of all americans and give them a score based on placement to see what high has produced the best wrestler. Also exclude non pulblic schools like st edwards and blair academy
Who produced the most Olympic Medalists in the last 30 years? Hint: Not Pennsylvania....NOT EVEN CLOSE!!
Maryland
Great question
I'm not sure that MU should count in your stats bc I don't like MU. Please recalculate.
What about Jim Heffernan and Allen Freed ~ St Edward
!!! Its Walsh Jesuit in Cuyahoga Falls OH not (wheeling )!!!!! Ironmen tounament!! U fail to mention St.Eds high school Lakewood oh multilple Div 1 state championships and also multiple National championships , a streak of 30 div 1 ncaa all american!!!! YOU BETTER ASK SOMEBODY!!!!
Its walsh Jesuit. Wheeling Jesuit is a college in West Virginia.
I think that the best high school is poly prep
Start it in 2008. My Waynesburg PA team has 2 national title holders. Coleman Scott and Josh Koscheck.
I know you're from cannon McMillan but you gotta put the local boys on the map. đ

Mike Kemerer from Franklin Regional soon.
What about Ed Ruth at Blair
