Zeke Moise. All I have to say. Even though he didn’t win it, this was one of the most impressive runs of all time
I thought that was all you had to say
@@rhino447attack 🤣
winning a national title while being unseeded is insane
gary barton of clarion went in unseeded and won a national championship by the way he was my coach in high school
The one name that stands out in memory is the most distinguished collegiate wrestler to date. Although he entered the NCAA D1 tourney as the 2nd seed, he battled his way through the D1 field to cement his legacy with 6 straight championships. That’s right 6! Carlton Haselrig was a beast of a heavyweight. 3 D2 and 3 D1 titles earned at a time when winning a lower titled berth you entry into D1 contention. While most didn’t take advantage of the entry he did and completely capitalized on it. Now because of his success the NCAA no longer honors this.
I love an underdog! You are right about the "I haven't heard of them" comment. I did it this year.
8 seed, Leen of Cornell beat Poeta of Illinois 08..... He blew through the tourney I think it was unexpected.
Another fantastic video!!! Thank you!!!
Hey! Big fan, and have an interesting idea for a video for you. Do you know if anyone from the pigtails round has ever made it to place, or what is the best ever result starting from the pigtails. Keep up the good work!
(33) Wyatt Sheets (OKST) 11-9, came in 8th in 2021 and only made the NCAA Tournament after another wrestler couldn't wrestle and he was added, so he was an alternate and went on to AA, pretty impressive
I can not believe you failed to bring up Div 2 National Champ Carlton Haselrig. from Pitt Johnstown. Who became a 3 time div. 1 National Champ. 1984
Kyle conel was electric that ncaas!! I really felt for him having to give up his final season due to the shoulder issues
Your content is really outstanding. Thank you.
great video!
Clark last year was an awesome run to the finals
I would say Derek Moore is one of the bigger ones, sure he was a top3 seed and a solid wrestler (two time placer, but was overshadowed by Vasquez of Bakersfield) but I don’t think anyone felt he was going to win a title (Stephen Neal was another wrestler who ended up having a better college career and I was surprised when I saw that he won two titles, including against Brock Lester, and he only placed once in 94 and lost to the top 189 lb wrestler (who ended up having a very good career at ASU and was a two time All American)
It's easier to wrestle as the underdog. They usually don't know you or your style while everyone knows the heavy favorites every move.
Oh gosh.... There was a fella from Trenton State .... Yes...Thats it ..Trenton State New Jersey.. Won a NCAA division 1 Championship.. Tom Martucci back in 1981 ..I guess that qualifies me as Ole Geezer! Yeah the school no longer is called that...I think it goes something like "The college of New Jersey" That had to be a long shot ...
1978, 118lbs, non seed Andy Daniel from Ohio University pins the 1 seed in 30 seconds after beating the 2 seed Gene Mills 15-7 in the semis.
Robles was a 174lber who was huge
I’m about two years younger than Cale Sanderson and I’m not sure if I seen any wrestler more dominating than Bo Nickal I’d argue that if that lost to Miles Martin happened in Bo’s senior year it would be revered the same way that Gables loss was.
Bryce Meredith from Wyoming when he made the finals as a high seed
I little before your time but Jesse Whitmer from Iowa won a title at 118 in 1997 in his first year as a starter for the Hawkeyes.
Cassar was definitely an underdog
Thanks!
Awesome
Myles Martin is my favorite upset win only because I called it 😂
Steve Marianetti winning over McIlravy in 95’
Paul did something amazing
I guess it is too early to honor Robes for Pinning big deal media darling Spencer Lee to crush his legacy!
Question: Would Daton Fix be the first 4-time runner up?
Yes
I think Kyle Dake was quite the underdog those 4 years, nobody saw him going far.
How about Nebraska Paul Donahue
Derek Moore Cal Poly
What about carlton haselrig out of UPJ
Carlton Haselrig won 6 NCAA Titles - 3 at DI and 3 at DII while wrestling for Pitt-Johnstown, an amazing feat that we'll never see happen again
What was he seeded when he won his first D1 title
@@michaellarson6569 3 Seed
Wasn’t Jeff Jaggers a high seed when he won it ?
Cody Brewer the 🐐
Seeds don't mean anything. Seeding is more for spectators.
BS
@@Spanky7 If they meant anything, there wpuld be no tournament. They would just hand the championship to the 1 seed in each weight class. 😂
@@leroywatermelon4025 take a look at the semis and see how many 1-4 seeds are in there, a high seed makes your life easier, but I do know what you’re saying as the old corny saying goes, got to beat the best to be the best, but usually the top seeds win it.
@@Spanky7 Personally, I would prefer the top 16 wrestlers in each weight class in a luck of the draw bracket. Would make things interesting.
Funny, miles Martin barely beats Bo Nickal...how about Nickel Pinning returning Nat champ martin?????
