    RK3 Designs started as a way for Rhonda to showcase her creativity but has blossomed into a way to help others find theirs. Her obsession with painting led her to start refinishing furniture and kitchen cabinets. She found customers wanted a nicer option than laminate but more affordable and customizable than natural stone, which lead her to countertop epoxy! Since then, she’s helped thousands of students, from across the country (and even Canada eh?).

    Hi Rhonda, awesome look. How does the finish hold up to heat, as in a hot pot or dish? And does it scratch easily?

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před rokem

      Stonecoat epoxy has a high heat rating of 500 degrees. It’s not recommended for high heat for extended periods of time however, when using appliances that heat for long periods, use a trivet or place a towel underneath. I also highly recommend apply the Ultimate Top Coat for amazing scratch protection and added durability.

    Why do u need to keep torching it? Is it to harden it or to thin it out? Thanks! I love the results!!!

    Beautiful!!! Should I cut the insert hole for the sink before the epoxy or can you cut it after?

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před rokem +1

      We cut it after and at the job site so we can tweak if necessary.

    Beautiful Rhonda! What’s the difference between the Just Resin product vs. the white mica powder? Does it give you the same effect? Thanks for sharing your talents with us all. 🙏🏼

      @RK3Designs  Před 2 lety

      They work basically the same way. The JR is a paste and the other is a powder. Results are the same.

    Are you able to cut and pull appliances across this product without scratching it? Thank you!

    I am in my RV reno right now. I just removed the laminate countertop and now, since discovering your channel, I have the option of pouring over the old laminate or starting from scratch with MDF, which I think is the best option to get the round-over edge and not worry about fixing loose laminate edging and bonding to the epoxy. For a first timer, would you recommend pouring the countertop outside of the RV and install when finished or mount the new MDF and pore-in-place?

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey there! First of all let me say thank you so much for watching. I would highly recommend that you rebuild your countertops with MDF. Also I would highly suggest that you pour them outside of the RV where you have plenty a room and do not have to worry about prepping your living area.

    I love this finish and that it has the flexibility to be in an RV! What do you think of gold and tan/brown veins in a marble finish? Would that still have a realistic look?

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you so much I appreciate it. I believe it would look very nice if you were very subtle with your gold. The thing about epoxy is that you can make it look anyway that you want. That’s what makes it so fun 😊😊

    What are the best types of boards to use to make these kinda countertops? I know you can use ply or MDF boards but I wanna know pls!

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 2 lety +1

      We only use MDF. We use a brand called MDF2 and Medex. We get it from a wholesale lumber yard. The MDF from Home Depot is good too. If it’s going to be installed where it could be exposed to water, you’ll need to RedGuard the backside.

    Can you tell what is a fold coat ?

    We really don't have the option to start from scratch with new MDF. Do we dare attempt this with the fake marble in our 2013 Jayco Eagle Premiere? What will the drawbacks be?

  • @djshideaway

    Can you tell me what is the flood coat

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 2 lety

      The first layer of epoxy I refer to as a “color coat” because I’m adding color to the Epoxy . The next coat I refer to as “floodcoat“ this is the same product just no color additives or added. You are basically flooding your project with clear epoxy for added protection and durability.

    MDF for RV countertops is a terrible idea. Don’t listen to these people they have no idea what materials to use.
