Luckily I used appliance paint first, after watching a video from another podcaster. I put 3 coats on, not much prep but light sand, fans going in between and very dry time of year is imp! It has lasted 3 years so far!!! I ended up doing my bathroom tile that was yellow and even a guest bath that had yellow tile. It is great and lasts!!! Don’t wash it with anything abrasive and max dry time before putting anything heavy on it.the humidity level needs to be vey dry! ! Saved me a fortune!!!!!!

I inherited an old white metal table that was my grandmother’s. It was probably from at least the 40s if not older. My dad had used it in the garage to mount a saw on. I bondo’d the holes and painted it with the appliance paint. It came out great. It’s been three years and it’s holding up awesomely, though it’s not subject to as much wear and tear as a countertop , but no sign of peeling or anything.
Since it came out so great I used it on a couple of other things, including an old dingy mailbox. I used black and it’s been three years and it’s exposed t the elements, including the hot desert sun and it looks as good as new. It was only supposed to be temporary while I looked for something else, but I probably won’t bother now.

I used the appliance paint on my bathtubs and it worked great. That was 3 years ago. Only issue I had, was my husband would always leave a bar of soap on the same spot in the tub and it actually took the paint off one day when I was cleaning the tub. And if you buy their small touch up paint it was not the same color of white. The paint irself though looka great and I plan on doing another tub.

My daughters 1st home was a fixer. She hated the pea green tile in 1 bath and a bright blue in another bath. The tile looked rather new and the house had many other issues that were more of a priority. I told her paint them white. Within a short time she used the spray appliance paint and is so happy that it looks clean. In fact 3 years later, the rest of the bathroom has been remodeled but not the tile around the tub area as there are still other areas of higher priority. I doubt they will get to the tile surround of the tub for many years.

Rust oleum has always been the worst least durable water resistant paint for decades. They also bought some good companies and ruined their brand too.
I recently discovered Behr Ultra scuff defense paint as an Oops paint. And it is astonishing, truly astonishing. It dried like a rock over my RV plastic counter top where lots of water drops and hangs. Absolutely no moisture penetration. I can’t scratch or harm it. However, my 150 German Shepard had a panic attack that I was gone and I can see he was able to scar it with the full force of his deadly claws waking at it. In a small spot. But still did not get through the paint entirely. I am sold, and changing the entire house now
Alternately I painted my neighbors wind beaten door with Behr marquee interior eggshell enamel and it is so hard it feels like epoxy and not paint. Gonna try this on a counter or shelf. But the scuff defense is a scrub-uble surface, guaranteed in the can.
And thank you for making this video.

A two part epoxy is the way to go . A paint tray and better quality brushes and rollers will make your job better and much easier. You are much better off doing multiple coats rather than one or two really thick coats. You can see the rippled orange peal look in your finished counters and this could be eliminated.

Just curious why you didn't put a clear top coat over the appliance paint? Lowes has one that goes on thick and is for specific for bars and table tops etc? seems like it would keep it from chipping staining etc?. I’m currently researching my options here and appliance paint is an interesting choice. I’ll be considering that for sure.
Did you apply a clear top coat in any of these? That might address the issues you had around the sink and such.
Other videos I’m seeing suggest the following: repair defects, clean, sand, mineral spirits, two coats primer, dry six hours, two coats paint, dry four hours, two coats clear topcoat, cure 24 hours, light use for two weeks before complete cure.

    • @ourclassichome
