Bad place for catalytic converter UP pipe on 05 Subaru turbo XT outback

  • This is the worst place for a factory catalytic converter I have ever seen. This catalytic converter is placed between the exhaust manifold and the turbo charger. This means when the catalytic converter fails and breaks into chunks it’s going to clog the turbo charger and seize it from moving or damage the turbine blades which could damage turbo charger and keep it from spinning. This is the worst place I’ve ever seen a factory put a catalytic converter. It’s not bad enough that there are already two catalytic converter‘s after the turbo charger on the downpipe, as well as a restrictive resonator and two very restrictive mufflers. How much choking must a Subaru have from the factory? The factory exhaust system on the Subaru has a catalytic converter before the turbo charger, and two catalytic converter’s after the turbo charger, a resonator that’s heavy and restrictive and then it leads to two very restrictive heavy mufflers. Why? I have a solution for the catalytic converter between the turbo charger and the exhaust manifold. It’s called and up pipe which the aftermarket has created a solution for which is a FreeFlo a pipe which solves that problem. A vehicle only needs one catalytic converter not three. I will show you the part on this video and I will change this part out at the same time as the turbo charger which will make the job better because it’s a very hard part to change out. What would somebody do if the catalytic converter fails and clogs the turbo charger they would have a failed turbo charger and have to change that pipe all over again

Yup.. in fact it happens on these engines. Piece of the catalytic converter and/or the EGT sensor can end up being sucked and destroy the turbo, which eventually can end up destroying the motor through the return oil line.. Good job on replacing the up pipe.
