It was kind of like when you said back then you didn’t want to cover hereditary because it was a depressing movie, but you’ve since changed your mind. Also, I’m glad you changed your mind about convering toxie on the kill count. I love it when you cover really weird 80s schlock movies.

My favorite thing about this movie is that after the dog gets shot in the taco stand scene, they cut back to it laying on the ground "dead," but you can clearly see it's breathing and also the happiest-looking dog I've ever seen in my life.
Apparently they have to use CGI to replace dog actor tails a lot because they're so happy to be doing a good job that they can't stop wagging. It's adorable.

I have to admit the bullys suddenly being revealed to be absolute monsters was a bit surprising but very clever, its similar to little shop of horror's and how the only person the main character really "helps" kill is the dentist who had a whole ass song explaining why he was evil.

falling into that toxic waste and transforming into a monster was probably the best thing that ever happened to him when he was human he was a social pariah no one liked him they bullied him, teased him and treated him like garbage but as a monster he is adored by millions people love and respect him and call and see him as a hero

The 80s & 90s were loaded with R-rated movies becoming animated series. Rambo, Beetlejuice, Police Acadamy (no, really), and Robocop are just an example. Even tamer movies like Teen Wolf, Back to the Future, Karate Kid, and Bill & Ted got their Saturday morning cartoon series.

@@baxterthecuck3527 the two most likely reasons for the hockey mask was they needed something that was less difficult to wear than the gunney sack the late Steve Dash had to have taped to his face for most of part 2 and needing something that looked good in 3D.
I'm so glad James finally has a chance to cover this movie, I know he's been wanting to for a long time. And I see why, it's absolutely amazing. It reminded me of a lower budget _Evil Dead._ A lot of gore, cheesy in a good way and also pretty funny. I love the creative deaths in this movie too. Truly Troma's greatest gem.

I saw The Toxic Avenger by accident one October night on G4. That first kill with the kid totally traumatized me. In hindsight it wasn't just because of the brutal gore, but it was really the utter callousness of the drivers intentionally committing manslaughter that really broke me.
How can you intentionally commit manslaughter?, if it was intentional it wasn't manslaughter 😂
@@smokeymcbongwater I looked it up and Voluntary Manslaughter is quote "s any intentional killing that involves no prior intent to kill and which was committed under such circumstances that would "cause a reasonable person to become emotionally or mentally disturbed". Both this and second-degree murder are committed on the spot under a spur-of-the-moment choice, but the two differ in the magnitude of the circumstances surrounding the crime."
The distinction in this kill is they wanted to run the kid over and kill him, But they were Drunk.
@@Tartubeman the district attorney would likely file both murder and manslaughter charges in this case but IMO the jury would likely find them guilty of murder (and a DUI) because they had a whole game they were playing and were seeking out victim(s) -- meaning they had prior intent to kill, intentionally seeking someone who fit their criteria, and did so. Manslaughter in comparison is them riding behind the boy on his bike, getting frustrated with how slow he is going, and impulsively running over him in violent frustration. Depending on what evidence was available for the prosecution to use against them at trial, the defense counsel would probably push the bullies to plead guilty and try to negotiate the district attorney down to a manslaughter charge on the plea deal. that's my take though.
the best part of this movie is when the little girl is picked up and how the child actor is so happy and excited.
I always like how nuanced James is when dealing with controversial topics and elements to films when doing these. Also it's amazing they made a kids cartoon out of it!

Remember that OG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics has the turtles violently slicing up gang members and have forced Shredder to commit ritualistic suicide.
Fun fact: There’s a deleted (non-canon) scene which shows that Wanda and Julie didn’t die at all, in fact Toxie mearly cuts off Julie’s hair with those scissors. But since the scene is non-canon, we can safely assume they die.
Also, the scene where Toxie asks his BLIND girlfriend if he LOOKS inconspicuous enough always cracks me up! 🤣🤣🤣

I watched almost the entirety of that movie at a bar that randomly had it on because my buddies and I got hooked on how absurd it was, and I always genuinely thought it was a fever dream because I've never been able to find it again.
Edit: It 100% is, and I have yet to determine if I want to sit through that film again 🤣 it was just.... I don't even know how to describe it, but it's the closest thing I've seen to a Troma film

I always really appreciate how much James cares about other people. While I’m not a huge fan of the sorta “offensive humour” in general, it was kinda sweet seeing James point out how 1, the characters saying and doing these things are inherently evil and (mostly) get their comeuppance by the end of it all and 2, documenting the parts of the film that were both great and not so great for those taking part in it as well as advocating for more safety measures while filming. Of course we can say “it was a different time” and all of that, but what we really need to learn from this is to approach these sorts of situations with care, to ensure that we document this sort of humour in a way that doesn’t involve making other people uncomfortable.

I watched Toxic Avenger for the first time when you guys covered it on the Dead Meat Podcast! I honestly thought the movie was less a horror movie, and more a hilariously bad superhero movie with randomly graphic violence. Love you guys!
Haven't seen the film, but the movie from this kill count feels like an unhinged shlocky black comedy rather than a horror film. The gore is so over the top and not framed scarily that I can't even really call it a horror comedy.
of all the horror movies i saw as a young kid (including the exorcist), this movie with the kid killing scene is the one that affected me the most. didn't terrify me but depressed me for a really long time.

As a first time viewer, holy shit this is one of the best movies ive ever seen.
Its so much fun, it's raunchy, offensive, over the top, cheesy, gory, and wholesome all in one package. Its just about everything i love in a movie all together in one package.

They’re the masters of “The Head Crushing Scene” & “The Car Flip” for that very reason.

This is one of the few times where I've actually seen the movie before the kill count. On my viewing, I thought it was a little different than other 80s horror films. I didn't realize it was a whole studio's way of doing movies. I'm honestly happy James likes the film cause I really enjoyed watching it too
I always bring up this bit from IndieWire's review of TITANE for this film, because it works for it too: "it’s hard to tell if you’re watching the most fucked up movie ever made...or the sweetest movie ever made."
This movie sparked my love for trashy, exploitive cinema. So cool you finally covered it.
Fun fact: The gym teacher I was a student assistant for in senior year was best friends with Lloyd Kaufman. He told me Lloyd is exactly how you imagine, funny and crazy.

I read somewhere that in the original version of the film Julie had her hair cut instead, which is why it cuts away during her 'kill'. With the reason being that she showed compassion for Melvin when he was writhing on the floor outside the health club.
Why I prefer the Japanese cut, since it has that scene completely intact.

The best part of this movie is Toxies maniacally laughing as he’s driving himself and Bozo off the cliff. Gets me every time
I saw most of this movie in 1985-6 at the age of 7 at my best friend's house, until we got caught watching it!....probably way too young to see it, but it definately left a mark on me! The way its delivered the graphic deaths are almost comedic! I watched it again in its entirety in college.
James listing all the ways this movie is offensive was basically a list of what makes it awesome.
I watched this movie as a kid. 90% sure my parents got it confused with the cartoon. Weirdly enough, none of the violence or gore phased me. And because I had watched the cartoon, I wasn't scared of Toxic Avenger at all.
Saw this a kid in the 80s, along with every other extreme movie like Robocop, etc, and the ran over head is by far the "kill" that affected me the most. I was absolutely shook. Lol

I went to a screening of the original at the end of last month, there was Mark Torgl there along with Lloyd. Mark was the nicest person, and Lloyd didn’t let anyone pay for a signature. The entire time he was rocking a baby blue 2Pac hoodie. It was awesome.
My dad used to joke about earning points for running over pedestrians when I was a kid (my family is very pro dark humor and horror), but I never realized that bit came from this movie until I watched it in anticipation of the Kill Count. It was a fun/weird revelation.
Night on Bald Mountain was also well known to gamers in the 90s.

I used to have a UK 18 rated version of this that ran for just over 70 mins. Seeing the Uncut version years later was an eye-opening experience! Thanks for this one, great to see some old 80s indie movies.

Toxic Avenger is certainly one of the movies of all time.
Despite all the changes over the years, Dead Meat has consistently been one of the best channels on CZcams, with every change made being a good one. The only thing I could ask for is maybe if y'all could try doing some horror tabletop stuff. I know y'all play D&D, but have you seen Shiver? Mothership? 10 Candles? Y'all would have a hell of a time.

I saw the Toxic Avenger YEARS ago and I absolutely loved it. It’s campy as all hell, but it’s also just so genuine you can’t help but love it.

I watched this for the first time a few years ago and was utterly appalled and delighted at the same time. I consider myself as someone who would watch ANYthing, and The Toxic Avenger made me realize just how far that envelope can be pushed lol
I actually saw this movies a few years ago with my old friend group since we use to have a "Bad movie night" every other month. And this movie was by far one of the best "worst" movies we have ever seen! I remember us all cheering for anyone who Toxie killed. Being high also watching this movie was also an experience. Anyways I'm glad you finally covered this movie !! Unfortunately the sequels ( In my opinion) don't have the same amount of charm to them.

This was a wholsesome episode. Its rare to find a film with a monster that the city loves and accepts. Thia film teaches us a lot about how ti focus on whats inside us rather than what we look like on the outside. We just have to ignore the brutal fatalities.
