Sounds like Punk and Ace are being paid a fortune to not completely embarrass AEW and Khan any further. Tony's dad would be so proud of what his son is doing with his money.
Glad he discussed the 1099 issue in wrestling. Pro wrestlers are 1099s in name only. In every aspect of their relationship with the companies they’re treated as employees and are absolutely mis classified. But the ability to fight it is a steep hill.
Excellent point on how AEW’s lawyer SHOULD have conducted herself during the “discussion”. After all, you didn’t see Vince bring Jerry McDevitt with him to Montreal for Bret vs. Shawn.
I remember thinking at the time how unprofessional it was that management didn't send the parties home to avoid anything escalating. It was interesting to hear that it actually violated the lawyer's code of ethics
I just want to thank you for stating your bias in regards to punk. Far too few do this. And its important to know where someone is coming from on any given topic. Mainly listening for the legal aspect but big thanks for your honesty.
Something I would have liked to hear about is what is the best remedy for Punk in regards to the misinformation campaign. That was the big thing for me in the press scrum, Punk was trying to deal with the people (the pseudo-journalist bloggers) who were damaging him as much as calling out the backstage whisperers. That's why he started the scrum in such a combative fashion. Were there legal avenues that he could have pursued against Meltzer etc who were just passing on rumours without proper fact checking? Also, in terms of the classification of wrestlers, I'd love to know if there is more of a plan to go after smaller promotions to set precedent, or does the fight need to start with the big operators?
Interesting. If you remember Punk asks Dave directly "what did I do Dave?" And Dave replies "you tell me". Now, within a week of that interaction Dave posts a bullet point list of things he's been told about Punks behaviour since he first signed. So what Dave wants us to believe is that he had all this for 2 years and sat on it and even then didn't confront Punk with it when addressed directly by him at the scrum.
I have thought of this Stephen P. New guy was a pro wrestling character (like a Work); but he was for real; (a Shoot), like an ex-WWE/WWF lawyer, Jerry S. McDevitt (a civil and criminal attorney), who wants to retire from his profession. The first time that I have heard about this Stephen guy was through Jim Cornette Experience show/podcast & that catchy jingle. ahh, the great (uncle) Dave (Meltzer of the WON (Wrestling Observer Newsletter), along with Bryan (Alvarez). Megha Parekh (is AEW's senior V.P. and main lawyer). Stephen P. New has a great personality; but seems like a no-nonsense type of guy. (credit: wikipedia) The Dog (paying taxes on owning man's/woman's best friend) story is (Wow...!) interesting, man; like puppy (training) diapers being sold at a Walgreen's, CVS Pharmacy or a Safeway. The only thing that I know about law is attending Jury Duty (at the local District/Federal court level).
I also have to pay a registration fee for my dog. But I believe in my state it’s a city by city thing rather than a state thing. You also have to provide proof of their rabies vaccination when you pay it each year. It obviously feels like a silly way to milk a little money out of the community more than anything but it’s $15 so I don’t worry about it LOL
I wonder if I put together a Gofundme for a million dollars to have Mrs. Steel tell the whole story.. If she would tell the tale.. Mr. New, Is that ethical or possible?

Im an Elite fan and for the most part think Punk was in the wrong that night, however what he says about how it should have been handled after Punk's tirade is so true. Neither party should have been able to come into contact with the othet that night. Both should have been told to shut the hell up and go home to deal with it in the cold day rather than when everyone was hot and fired up.
