How to turn off PERMANENTLY the backlight of the Tecsun PL-310ET - Secret Feature!

This video shows a hidden function: How to disable the backlight of the Tecsun PL-310 and PL-310ET, when you press any key in the radio.
Explanation:
1- Make sure the radio is OFF (displaying the time)
2- Press and hold the "5" key button until says "OFF"
Now the screen background light is permanently turned OFF!
To turn ON again repeat the process above until says "ON"
Simple and very useful feature!

Useful. Tecsun should have the secret functions of the numeric and other keys in grey or another light colour above the associated keys.

Thanks for this. It works on the PL880 as well even though it has a switch. I thought maybe I had left the light on and it died but this fixed it.

Yes but not with the "5" button. On the PL-390 it is the "FM ST" button which is on the top left of the radio & shows a little light bulb sign. It has the same functionality as what you showed in the video, keeping it de-pressed for a couple of seconds which activates or de-activates this feature whichever way you want. It does let you know on screen as well if the feature is "On" or "Off". 73s!

Interesting find and nice video, Sérgio. However, I does not apply to the PL-380 (and probably PL-390) On the 380, the Stereo (FM ST) button has the same function though and it is not hidden as the related pictogram is printed under the button.
A feature I like on the PL-380 is that the light can also be turned on permanently, by the way. As I'm using rechargeable batteries, the battery drain does not really bother me. 73!

The PL-310 also can turn on permanently the backlight.

Yes, the tick doesn't apply to the PL-380. The light can be switched off permanently with an _official_function (pressing "FM ST" when the radio is switched off). 73!
