They call it ’blue gold.’ Around the world, demand for water is exploding. By 2050, at least one in four will live in a country suffering from water shortages - creating ideal conditions for a new market…
Goldman Sachs, HSBC, UBS, Allianz, Deutsche Bank, BNP. Banks, investment funds, and hedge funds are all rushing to invest billions of euros in anything related to water. A real monopoly of water has begun.
From California to Australia, from New York to London via Marseille, we investigate the financialization of water. New power relations are being established and access to water is being threatened.
It’s a battle taking place on many fronts: ideological, political, environmental, and of course, economic. The fate of nearly 10 billion inhabitants depends on the outcome.

When was this filmed?
Yes thats true...for them its all about money...money...money...
This is so unbelievable to turn water into a commodity I am so Fn angry and all they care about is making money for the shareholders.
I hate the stock exchange market I never ever will buy shares. This is madness lunacy I hope it pours with rain so that these water barons make no money out of a natural resource. I never imagined water would become a commodity so that people would charge high prices to please greedy shareholders I hope they all drown. Poor garners losing their properties an awful thing to watch very distressing so unfair.
You water barons hope you drown in water. Psychopaths all of you
God bless Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
We are all just expendable slaves! Our job is only to make them richer and richer!
First create a problem, then sell the solution. 🍿
they should have found a problem, then give a solution. we are going to live in a bad place.
History repeating, we make, we brake, we fix...
We were always living in bad times, we are just now awekening to all of it
You must have watched captain planet as a kid. I swear that cartoon had the future down the the t. There was an episode where they did this not only to water but the very air we breathe...the corporation polluted the air so they sold domes with clean air pumped into them.
@@basstard4639 I loved that show, made some of us care about our PLANET sadly most didn't get the message
@luiskross6454 right you are. I think it's not that they didn't get the message, they got it and chose to ignore it. It was made in at least 2 languages. Spanish and English I know for sure.
I was advised by a professor in college around 2004 to go to law school and to specialize in water law. He wasn’t wrong and I should have listened.
Comparing water to diamonds is ridiculous
Thatcher would of privatised fresh air if possible...she was a truly vile specimen...
Facts
Yea and you would still be living in the 1970’s socialist hellscape wondering if the electricity might go off and without that nice shiny phone in your hand. What planet are you on?
@@MasterBlaster3545 ...and your point is ?
@@shanegahan4341 What? I just made my point. Do you understand English? I wrote my point out so why are you asking for it? 🤦♂️
Greed always finds a way!
Mad Max world is coming! There will be 2 categories the rich and the poor
Will be??? 😂
@@Parialated yes because there is still a middle class, smaller day by day.
Can you please add the year these documentaries were filmed @ENDEVR
Fabulous comment! Thank you! 👍👍
Looking at 21:35 it appears to be 2019-2020. Though if the US market is anything to reflect upon. Then the situation hasn't gotten any better if not worse. As this truly affected the US last.
Really fascinating stuff. It's terrifying to think that those who, in the UK, destroyed the environment, railways, etc... are going to be in charge of such a valuable resource
I've lived in New Zealand my whole life and i didnt know about this happening in Australia. And growing up we never had to pay water rates. Now we do
"Just because its life, it doesn't mean it can't be priced"...
And his face look evil rght down to his bones..
He only values money, everything else means nothing, sick thing is he thinks he's actually smart
FUCKTHEMARKETANDSTARTWITHHIM
I feel like i just saw multiple Satans
Ultimately we are the cause of this greed. Without our excess consumption & waste, these greedy corporations wouldn't exist.
When are they gonna start selling us bottled air?
at Walgreens they sell bottled air no joke.
Oh for sure it will come sooner than we expect😢😢😢
39:43 You cannot compare the necessity of water to having healthcare.
So freaking..i dont know hoq to call that old man fr citigroup...hes so vile
i dont need diamonds to liv e but i need water to live.
Buy land, leave city, make your own source of water.
In the United States the privatization of power and water shot the price sky high. Water and power went from being a service to being a luxury with the idea of making them as profitable as possible and make people pay as much as they can possibly afford. Before tax payers were charged a fee that covered distribution but storage and exploration cost were carried by everyone. Now people are charged for everything even if taxpayers still pay for wells, reservoirs, canals and levees.
I hate these bankers lying lying lying... Diamonds are free if they are on your property or land, but who decides which land is who's...and you all polute all the land no matter who supposedly owns it.
I am having no children dark times are ahead. Out of love I spare them
I agree. amen to that.
Captain planet warned us about this. It's not a financial product because you don't need a diamond to live
Here in the US, local cities, counties, and states have privatized water for yrs. In the part of Arizona I used yo live in, there was a Canadian company that owned the local water company. Until just 1 or 2 yrs ago when the city bought it & they have screwed it all up and mismanaged it and now are in debt because that puchase brought so much oversight into how the city does things, that now my non-profit rent is being increased. I rent a space from the city to supply assistance with needed comodity. They were ever so happy to get me in the space 10 yrs ago, but now I am being looked at as a cash cow.
Very nice 👍🏻 thank you 🙏🏻

Unfettered capitalism is a revolutionary force!
Won’t be long until we’re filtering our pee straight into plastic bottles
As the Astronauts do 👍
Why money is the root of evil.
This video made me a water rights activist.
pretty sad, even we know about desalinization tech for all the oceans in the world............what a sick and greedy thing to do to the slaves!!
And people want to find Ways to extend life here on this physical realm:
There need to be lengthy prison terms for any one who charge a price for drinking water over what production (treatment) and distribution actually costs. The water is not property anyone has a right to charge for, only what is done to it to make it drinkable and to bring it to our homes. Yes the price will differ between next to a clean river or in the middle of a desert but that is as it should be because of actual costs, not water speculation. Why the Australian farmers do not use atmospheric condensators with solar panels with all the sun they have I do not understand, it is not more expensive than paying for water on the "market". There are more drinkable water in the air than all surface water combined, and the hotter it gets the more water the air can hold. It is just hard to get without the right equipment.
Mad max 2 👀👀👀
39:40 This guy proves you dont have to be the smartest person to be socially successful
Im 45 we in Utah always worried about our water bill. Very immoral.
Texans say, Liquor is for drinking, water is for fighting."
AZ has dibs on some water supplies, and citizens / residents cannot touch it. Where does it go?
i just dont get how certain people are allowed to profit off the water while everybody else pays for it. its not like its gas to where you need to extract it.. water is legit everywhere around us for free
How did they come to posses the water they are commodifying?
Is drilling for water not an option?
"You pay for healthcare?" bruh, its not even a comparison! One can live without healthcare, but one cannot live without water!
They do realize climate is measured over a period of 30 years not one summer. Like we say in climatology “climate is what you expect, weather is what you get.” Its so funny that one hot summer and all the sudden the subtropics are now arid desert.
Governments, business, and religions needs more people for them to get rich! They need more taxpayers, consumers and members! So, if they need a new supply of people or expendable slaves, THEY ALL MUST PAY FOR IT NOW!
👌👏👏
Water isn't the last natural resource to escape markets. Oxygen! As seen in the movie Total Recall.
there is a large hole i would put that investment banker in.
And i would love to help u put those greedy bankers in😂😂😂
1:44 - can someone with a heart on wall street please find that guy, take him out on a hot summer day till he's thirsty and then force feed him diamonds
Out west old timers said whiskey is for drinking, water is for fighting for.😡☠️ Ya really don't have a choice
They can send a man into outer space but can't turn salt water into fresh water... Go figure.
This is unbelievable
Why. Stop.
That CEO of Waterfind reminds me of a vulture in his attitude
This world is all about greed
At this point in time, trees are more valuable to our existence than water. Trees and water are the key to our survival. Without those two things, almost everything on this planet dies
Don't forget about the sun.
When something is underpriced - or free - it is wasted.
Basically there should be a base (per person) that is free per day - that can't be saved or sold - to allow survival (not luxury) - beyond that, the market should set a price.
sick sick bankers
Search for data on the internet about temperature changes in the past 100 years. Many factors have influence on our weather like now the El Nino effect. Some want to make money from everything and full all of us.
truth
Survival of the fittest.
so not right . were all on this planet for a short time
Water has a maximum sustainability price, because we can always desalinate the ocean. When technology perfects a cheaper solution such as microbial desalination, then the bottom will drop out of the water market.
the best thing for the whole world to do now is not have kids! they will just suffer!
Absolutely, problem is ignorance over populates this planet.
are you playing?
NO FUTURE NO KIDS!!!
Canada has the worlds largest supply of fresh water and our neighbours are thirsty
