  • Cristiano Ronaldo press conference. He speaks for the first time since his explosive interview, in which the 37-year-old said he felt betrayed by his club, Manchester United.
    (English translation in the pinned comment)
    Addressing the media on Monday morning in Doha, Ronaldo said: ''In my life, timing is always timing. From your side it is obviously easy to give your opinions and write things. I don't have to worry about what others think. I am totally convinced this won't have any influence on the Selecao'', Ronaldo said.
    Following the Talk TV interview with Piers Morgan, the club have revealed they are exploring legal options to bring the forward's second spell at Old Trafford to a premature end.
    Fernando Santos' Portugal side begin their World Cup campaign against Ghana on Thursday, before taking on Uruguay and then South Korea in Group H.

    [on the story about Bruno Fernandes and him and does he speak with his colleagues] "No, because in these final phases I think you always have moments of clubs interested in players. There are always polemics, in quotes. In this one, Bruno Fernandes was one more that unfortunately went wrong again, one more, you don't miss much but it was one more. What it was simply, I made a joke with him. My relationship with him is excellent. I was the one who asked him why he arrived late, the plane was delayed and so on. He arrived late and so I asked him if he was coming from the boat, and it was a joke. And you guys made a storm. As was [Joao] Cancelo too. He was a bit sad in training, it happened badly, he made a rash entrance between him and [Joao] Felix and I grabbed him by the neck like this and said : "What's up?" To pull him up : "Let's go". But another controversy. But I'm used to it. Whatever it is, whatever revolves around Cristiano, there is always a debate, there are always conversations. There's more talk about it on the news, in the newspapers, and that's normal. I know, I understand that. But, as I say, I'll say it once again. The atmosphere in the squad is excellent, there are no problems. We're all in the national team, body and soul. Our goal is to win this competition. The group is strong, and I'm taking this opportunity to end this. With the other players, when they come to the national team, don't always ask them about Cristiano. You can ask them about the World Cup and the expectations that they have. Don't talk about me. I have a strong mind. You don't need to talk about Cristiano any more. Cristiano's case is closed. Talk about the competition, don't constantly ask them questions about me. I speak for them, because I think if you constantly ask all the players questions about Cristiano, it's boring. I would get upset if someone asked a question, for example, of Rafa [who is retiring from the national team], I wouldn't answer. I wouldn't answer because it's a closed chapter. The coach spoke, he gave an interview and spoke about that topic. And the players have spoken about it. You want to talk? Ask them about themselves and the national team. I'd like you to do that so that the team is better. Don't ask about Cristiano, ask questions about them, the national team, the clubs they want to go to, etc. Okay ? Thank you.!

      [on the timing of his interview] I in my life the timing is always the timing. Obviously you guys are on your side. It's easy to opine, easy to write, often true, often lies most of it. The timing for me is my timing. I don't have to think about what others think. I'm absolutely sure it won't influence what the national team wants. All the players know me. The coaches, the staff, the presidents, the wardrobes, everyone knows me, they know what I am, they know what I think. They've known me since I was 11. They won't be influenced by what others say or what they write. The group is armoured, the group is well. I can see that the group is confident, it's a united group, it's a group that really wants this competition. Everyone wants to play, which is something I like to see in a working group, very high ambition and so I have no doubt that not only this episode that occurred with me, but there will be other episodes that will occur with the players or something else the family, the training, the same with the clubs themselves. It may affect the player himself, but it won't affect the squad.

      [on his fitness] Yes yes. I had a little problem, but I'm already recovered. I've been training well, I feel prepared to start the World Cup in the best way and help the team reach its goals. I'm fine.

    • @BeanymanSports
      @BeanymanSports  Před rokem +1

      [on Portugal favourite to win] This is very relative. I really believe that our national team has enormous potential. Me and all the staff. About winning, let's see. I believe so, I have this hope, I have this feeling. But as these major competitions tell us, you have to think calmly, think about the group first, think about the first game and I think that's what we have to do. Think about the first game against Ghana, which in my opinion is the most difficult one. We have to start well, start on the right foot to gain confidence and, from there, go slowly.

    • @BeanymanSports

      [on feeling more responsibility] It will be my fifth world cup. Responsibility, it has to be done with a lot of responsibility. Since I was 11 years old when I left home alone to live in Lisbon and I already had responsibility at that age. More or less, it depends on each person's point of view and perspective. I feel like I'm much more of an observed person than everyone else, that's for sure. I always have responsibility. As a player, as a friend, and as a father. This is part of my everyday life. That's why I like to have this responsibility, most of the time, more responsibility. But the pressure is almost always the same. I think from a very young age I had to deal with this. Sometimes I deal with it well, and sometimes I deal with it badly. It depends on the situation, it depends on the moment, it depends on the heat. I'm not perfect, but I feel empowered to take on pressure when I have to.

    • @BeanymanSports
      @BeanymanSports  Před rokem

      [on winning the WC to be the GOAT] No, I don't see things like that. Even if I won the World Cup, there would always be this debate. Some like it more, and some like it less. But that's like everything else in life. Some like blondes more, and some like brunettes more. That's normal. The question of the world cup will always be like this. Obviously, I'm an ambitious player, I would love to win this competition. But, also, if you told me: "Look, Cristiano, you're not going to win any more titles from now until the end of your career". I would also be happy because I think that in everything I have done and have been doing, I have to be proud of myself. Obviously, one World Cup in my career wouldn't be bad. Obviously, I would love it, it's a dream come true for me. It's possible, but we'll see. I hope that all energies are on our side and that we can do our best.

    Interviews are so much better when players do them in their native languages. I cringe every time a player is forced to give interviews in languages they aren't comfortable in. Cristiano was suppose to do the Piers Morgan interview in Portuguese. It would've been a far better interview. Imagine Jude Bellingham being forced to do an entire 90 minute interview in German
