A long time ago there were also Quail Cuckoo clocks, Trumpeter clocks, Monk clocks and so many others... Trumpeter and Monk clocks are rare and are no longer produced but Rombach & Haas and Hubert Herr still make quail cuckoo clocks.
I own 4 quail cuckoo clocks, 2 from Kuner and 2 from Hubert Herr. All over 70 years old and my oldest one(a Kuner) dates to 1907.

My grandma had several cuckoo clocks she was so proud of. In the old days, we didn’t have much excitement, so I was always thrilled to sit and watch the minutes pass as the hourly show approached. lol Hers had the little woodcutter as well. Great summary! I started out with a 1-day I inherited. Then bought another as an Anniversary gift. Both are charming...and I was really biased against the electronic ones, until I spent time in a local clock shop. Now I am addicted to the electronic clocks. We have 3 now, distributed through the house. When they go off on the hour...it is like being in the black forest! :-) My wish would be for a hybrid clock. One with electronic cuckoos but mechanical music. The electronic music in my clocks sounds sooooooo synthetic/gimmicky.

You did not mention one difference between one and eight day clocks with music.
With one day clocks the music plays on the hour AND on the half hour. With an eight day clock the music plays on the hour only.

Yes, some large 8 day musical cuckoo clocks feature automatic night off. This is one of three setttings for the cuckoo and music - on, off or automatic night off
My grandmother had a coukoo clock when I was very young, I was perplexed by it. I struggled to make sense of it when I visited her house. Why would anyone want a clock that made strange noises? Lol.

I bought one, recorded bird sound is Good. But rest everything is Printed in wood, looks like toy. Bird is very tiny. I didn’t find anything special. Just a printed clock printed characters with recorded sound . It just gives the feeling ,just the feeling of ,wow I have cuckoo clock.

Hi Kevin! I uh stand uh corrected. My friend's 12 bird sound clock went out (she loved it, her kids hated it!) I found one like it at a 2nd hand store and got it. It sounded tinny= b a d!😐😐😐😆😆😆😐😐😣😣😣😣😣. I took the back off and tried to mute it quite a bit= like 98%. Her grandson's bedroom door was next to the clock= 4 inches! YEPPA you wanted to take a shoe off and hit it all right he was an A student Lol! I uh apologize to you!😀😀😀😀😀😀😄. But my Grandmother's clock was sweet and not obnoxious! @@sherryrobinson7389 Hi Sherry- the quality of the music movements does vary depending on the price range- some of the introductorily clocks have smaller music movements, that only play 12 or 18 notes, whilst some larger more expensive clock have higher quality musical movements up to 36 notes offering more depth in the sound. Every clock is different!
