Loose Leash Walking: • How to teach a dog to ...
I will be giving my point of view on the methods being used, as well as giving the animal(s) in this video a voice. Don't blindly follow what someone says, even if they are a "professional", use your own critical thinking skills and question the tools, the method, and the trainers.
I am using all footage under the Fair Use Act for criticism and educational purposes, and do not wish for anyone to send hateful messages to the original poster. I hope to spread awareness about this type of unnecessary and dangerous practice that is so prevalent in the dog training world and horsey world, and to give these animals a better life. Let me know what you think of it, and what you would like to see next time! Until then, practice Patience, Peace, and Pawsitivity! :3

Only yesterday I watched an owner struggling to recall her dog (who was wearing an ecollar). She gave up in the end and just let the dog ignore her.

Oh no! That just sounds like a stressful relationship all around 😬

@@K9Tay I face palmed when I saw the ecollar on the dog... I should have given her my card.

There are a lot of misleading websites for dog training. 😢
I don’t expect immediate results, because our issues occur when Bella hits threshold, and can’t think. She hits it fast, too.
I got immediate results when she was a puppy, and I marked and rewarded the behaviors I wanted. Somewhere between attack 1(on Bella by an ankle biter) and attack 4 (doodle attack) and the 6(?) month experience with the not so positive trainer, we’ve lost so much of her relaxed personality (in the car and in public).
I feel like the best way to protect her is to avoid all strange dogs though she was great at day care, but we stopped going after they both got Giardia and kennel cough.
Thank you for doing these videos again.

Oh I am so sorry to hear of all the trouble you've been through! I hope things turn around for you all, at least so long as you are comfortable. I'm glad you enjoy the content 😊

4:00 - the first ecollar was before WW2. Sigma Dogs has a video on the history of the ecollar. The guy who invented the remote collar in tge 1950s wanted to break his lion hounds from chasing deer.
    Already the website is wrong.

Dan (Sigma Dogs) knows his stuff and I love his overall skeptical attitude.

Ecollar users oftentimes make the argument that they rather cause harm than to have a dead dog if eg. it goes after a boar or something, but even among them some say that these extreme situations just don’t present themselves for the biggest majority of dog owners.
I can imagine that there are lifestyles where it’s an extra safety measure, but for an urban dog owner, I can’t see the need.
As I’m learning to become a dog trainer, I see that positive, science based methods are up against the quick and easy methods, so what I can do to grow our “side” is to work even harder using humane methods, to show that it is possible. Where I live, the majority of dog schools and trainers still teach old school methods, so it’s a really fucking steep uphill battle.

I believe in you!🥳 And don't worry about the "competition". If you know you are doing right by the dogs you teach, that's all that matters. Ever experience counts towards the greater good ✊

@@K9Tay thank you! You have been a huge inspiration! The more dog owners I talk to, the more I see that most people do want to have a loving relationship with their dog, and if they are told that it can be achieved without force, it is very compelling! But I also see that MANY people are not willing to put in the work. They say they are but they just don't do it, but they absolutely expect outstanding results. I love honest owners, who know that their lack of effort directly translates into their dog not being obedient, but unfortunately this type of self reflection is quite rare. I do want to be a compassionate trainer and be known for this trait among my clients but I see that it has many many challenges. It's also absolutely shocking the stories I hear how previous trainers behaved, what they said, etc. It's abhorrent.

@vanclemmons aww yay I'm so glad to hear that! I know what you mean about honesty! I find those types of clients occasionally, but when I find the people that make it count, they are worth all the time in the world! Nowadays I am picky about the people I choose to train with because if you charge what they're willing to pay (pennies) you get what you expect, cheapskates who thinks it's your job to train their dog for them 🤦‍♀️

8:26 - wonder if person knows ecollars are not allowed to be used on sled dogs in Norway because of behavioral drift. You have to use the old-fashioned method of standing behind a fence and a leash.
(Ecollars are still allowed to be used on other breeds in sheep husbandry areas)
That alone defeats the "extension of the leash" idea.

I asked Dr. Orion to explain what behavioural drift is to laypeople but he said it's too advanced of a concept that it would go over aversive trainers' heads.
