FADE IN: _I was fortunate to work with Chuck_ on 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE' (1981 dir. Steve Carver) ... and despite our political leanings being polar opposites -- he was ever a true GENTLEMAN.
On the set, Chuck always took time to talk to the cast & crew in his no-bullshit, kindly manner. In fact, after brother Aaron messed up his knee on an airbag gag (beginning of the film -- out the window) ... Chuck who was sitting on the back of a rented U-Haul Truck away from the 'rain towers' with a towel around his neck (the scene called for rain) ...
... did two things: 1) Seeing and hearing Aaron land on the air bag knee first wrongly, (and we all heard the banshee-like scream from his brother when his knee met the concrete of the skid-row San Francisco alley), shook his head and then -- 2) Chuck leapt off the back of the truck and ran over to the still deflating bag (that SHOULD of had a raft of empty CARDBOARD BOXES btw) ...
CUT TO: The mid-80's, I'd run into them separately at CANON FILMS now and again ... and we'd chat for a moment. Both Chuck and Aaron were and are a couple of nice guys.
CUT TO: About 5 years ago -- when Chuck was doing the telephonic phone PR tour on his then recent book, at a local heavy duty Republican station, I called in ... let the screener know I knew Chuck from AN EYE FOR AN EYE -- and boom, within 10 seconds, I was connected.
Now, as stated above -- despite our political leanings being far and away different ... AND the fact the talk show host, whom I directed in a commercial about a decade earlier who usually gave me, the token Liberal, 30 seconds to talk ....
... Chuck and I yakked amiably about this and that including his son, Eric, brother Aaron, AN EYE FOR AN EYE, his days at CANON, etc., etc. for about 10 minutes (and thus pissing off the nose in the air host) it was in short, sublime.
Chuck Norris IS ... and forever shall be in my book, the true meaning of a gent and a helluva Martial Artist.

Wonder why Norris wasn't cast in E.T.D. John Saxon instead.
Norris was not an actor at this time (he just played in way of the dragon), for the movie they needed a famous white actor to have a chance in America and John Saxon was very famous. But Chuck was offered a role in E.T.D. the one of O'harra. He declined because he didn't want to again be the guy who lose the fight. The role was then offered to Bob.

Norris is a far better fighter then actor.
You know what I got from this interview? There are good businessman but bad martial artists and good martial artists but bad businessman. Very rarely do you meet those that are both.
