Hi! I have a certification in pearls and am happy to help you find out if they are real or not.
First thing to look for is knotting between each pearl. Usually (but not always) real pearls will be knotted in between to prevent loss of all the pearls if the necklace breaks.
Second thing to check for is uniformity. If they are perfectly round, all exactly the same size, identical coloring, etc they are probably faux pearls. Real pearls will rarely be "perfect" given the way they are made!
Third thing if everything else seems like it may point to real pearls is to do the tooth test. If you gently rub a real pearl (any kind.. freshwater, akoya, south sea, etc) against your tooth it will feel gritty. Faux pearls will just slide across your tooth with no resistance.
