Vocal ANALYSIS of "Dancing with the Dead" with Werewolves!!!

  • Werewolf Metal. I mean, how have I not heard of this before?! Powerwolf turns gothic-tinged compositions with werewolf and vampire legends into pure ear candy, and I am totally here for that! "Dancing With The Dead" is based off of the Sacred Ritual of Famadihana where one digs up a grave and dances with a corpse. How is that personified in the music video? I guess we'll find out!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Powerwolf for the very first time, performing "Dancing with the Dead”.

Powerwolf are amazing!! Glad you enjoyed them!
I wanna make a recommendation, I am 100% certain you would love Poets of the Fall. They have a great vibe, and the singer Marko has a warm, soothing voice. Their biggest song is Carnival of Rust (there's a live performance in Moscow that's good, and a live studio session at genelec which sounds great as well). Or another interesting and beautiful performance is Angel from the Alexander Theater sessions. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

There were comments below of recommending "Armata Strigoi" and "Venom of Venus". They are so great, I absolutely agree. Although I'd like to add one more, "Mother Mary is a Bird of Prey". Maybe it's not so popular but I think it's an interesting sample of Atilla's vocals.

I'm surprised they are not bigger, ya know like Nightwish or Epica level popularity. Really great music, music videos well produced and the guys in the band seem all round nice guys who love music.

The makeup style you're looking at is called 'Corpse paint', and its pretty common for European metal band. How realistic it looks depends on the band members preferences, usually, but I am super fond of the style Powerwolf uses that it looks like old school black and white film makeup.

No, Attila Dorn NEVER loses power in his deep low register! His voice is instantly recognizable in today's Metal, and, along with their tastefully chosen "gimmick", goes a long way to manifesting the identity of POWERWOLF. Yes, they are always energetic, and yeah, they are always having some dark (sarcastic) fun. :] But take them easy at own peril - for you lose that soul before you know! \m/
9:45 You ask what they do live? Well, they sound just as good... and they use flamethrowers on stage to prove the point! This band is the real deal as far as unbridled fun goes!
For another of their wonderful videos that tell a story, try "Fire and Forgive" - deals, appropriately, with exorcism. Hmmm. Or rather just listen to their classic "Bible of the Beast" album, and tell us what you think. A veritable joyride for this listener.

They are amazing at writing in a way of lot of metal has lost, strong verse which sets a story, great hook, then big sing along chorus, an unbeatable formula. Doesn’t hurt that they have almost a mythology that runs through their music, and a little singing in Latin, giving it an extra dramatic element. Listen to Blessed and Possessed, the album, Armata Strigoi is an amazing example as is the title track. These guys are the perfect example of what Metal can be at its best.
