Some tracks are better in german some are better in english imo. Europe endless in better in english for example while pocket the robots are better in german just like this song imo.
Kraftwerk made the world's most beautiful cover, and Karl Bartos sounds cool as a singer, the best crew: Ralf Hütter - lead vocals, vocoder, synthesizers, keyboards Florian Schneider - synthesizers, background vocals, vocoder Wolfgang Flür - electronic percussion (1973-87) Karl Bartos - electronic percussion, vibraphone, live keyboards (1975-91) [82]
I bought the LP in 1986. Back then the sound was out of this world. You had nothing to compare it with. The german versions were hard to come by and very expensive.
SkandikFilm I didn't live that period of time... But I sympathize... Actually, you were at least able to buy the German versions, even if they were expensive. Now it's a bit (just a bit) harder to find those rare masterworks.
I think the higher pitch required by the vocals suited Karl's naturally higher voice better than Ralf's and the band knew this - compare his vocals here to Ralf's from the same album, he sings in a much lower pitch. It's probably more clear on the english version
If you ask me Karl should have sung the lead vocals more often. In general, Karl couldn‘t really show his skills when he was in Kraftwerk. If you read his book you can imagine why. And if you listen to Karl‘s solo albums you can imagine what could have been possible together with Kraftwerk. And years ago, by the way.
he mentioned in his book that it was more spontaneous; when fitting the lyrics he had written to the beat of the music ralf suggested he'd have a go with the vocals since it'd also help establish a different kind of melodic singing style as opposed to ralf's more monotone approach
I've been trying to find the german versions of this song everywhere but I can't find them. Spotify, Qobuz, iTunes and everything else only gives me the english versions :(
For some reason, Kraftwerk decided to replace this version with the '87 one in later remasters and re-relases, which has a different composition (and it includes "House Phone"). So, the only way to get this version (from the '86 release) is by buying the original album, or maybe search for a FLAC version...

R. I. P. Florian Schneider. Long Live Kraftwerk
R.I.P Florian Schneider...legend and visionary of our culture.
Never be forgotten🖤
No.
Nein
I prefer the German version than the English. It sounds a lot more touching.
I was just about to make the exact same comment

Wenn Ihr Deutsche seid, warum schreibt Ihr dann nicht deutsch? XD
"ill ring you, like to hear you" really hits me on another level when its in german
Du bist mir nah, und doch so fern :(
My personal favourite Kraftwerk song, what a TUNE
Meine liebling, Kraftwerk.
I have been listening to their music since the early 80's... love the minimalistic sound...
Kraftwerk in Action.
Timeless perfection

All agreed.
Florian left Kraftwerk in 2008
I'm 22, first time I heard this song was in 2020 driving in Cleveland OH listening to WCSB.
Juste parfait ce son pour l'époque !
Sounds like it was made today.
I remember this in 1986 when all the people went crazy on the dancefloor at 1'56''

Simplemente me encanta ❤
Yeah. Deutch rules. Class.

5:50 Is it me or does this guy sound really annoyed?
Hallo ?... Ich höre..! / Hello ?... I'm listening to...! / Allô ?... J'écoute...!
Quem canta é o Karl, vulgo Zoreia e Grilo-Falante!
Kein anschluss an diese nummer...
Does anyone know why Karl Bartos provided vocals for this?

Karl also composed the main melody here

There is something called a CD. You can buy it, put it in the disc drive of your computer, import it into iTunes and listen to it..

English version sound like depeche mode
yes
Agree...
Because it was mixed by Francois Kevorkyan who mixed DM's Violator 4 years later
I always hate it when I answer the phone and all I hear are German voices.
Anyone has the German lyrics?
