Years ago, my husband and I planted corn in a field a little bigger than that…I could hardly walk the next day!!! It grew beautifully until we had a bad wind storm, and it laid the corn down…we were devastated. Then, if by magic, it righted itself in about 24 hours and we didn’t lose a stalk!! We had quite the harvest for freezing🌻 I’ll never forget that summer❤

When you told Matt to ride his tractor home it reminded me of memory from the 80’s. Southern small town eccentric life. In our town of about 300, we had a couple that were so fun!!!! His name was Commodore and her name was Josephine. He didn’t have a car or truck but he did have an old tractor so when they came to town he pulled a wagon with his tractor and she rode in the wagon, singing all the way. No one thought a thing about it. Bless them!!!! Nothing beats southern rural life!!!

I really miss the big garden momma & daddy had every year. Momma was 37 when I was born, but they still had the huge garden til after I got married (I'm youngest of 4 & soon to be 66 yrs old!) I remember helping them can & put stuff up in the freezer. After they got older, they still had a garden, just not as big, maybe a third of the old one. May 21st made 20 yrs daddy's been in heaven. I've been a widow now for almost 3 months. It's still very hard. I love getting to see y'all garden and spend time together. Thats what a good life is all about! May God bless y'all with a wonderful bounty from all the gardens & another precious grandson very soon! Love & blessings from VA! ❤️‍🩹🙏🥪🍅🥕🌽🥔🍓🥒🫒🌶🧅

As an Iowa girl, there is nothing better than sweet summer corn- drenched in butter with a little bit of salt- so good! My cousin grows a huge patch of sweet corn on our farm among the acres and acres of feed corn he plants. We put up corn every summer and enjoy it all winter long! Enjoy!! Do you have problems with deer and racoon? One year a herd of deer wiped out all our sweet corn overnight and that was with electric fence...so sad!

Can't wait to see the corn 3' tall and waving in the wind. A farmer in a nearby community years ago planted acres of corn and set up an honor stand on the highway. That was designated for his kids' college fund and they're now graduated. His corn is ready in June and people for miles around can hardly wait for it. We hope he continues growing corn.

We don't have much experience growing corn due to lack of space, but we do plant a small block of it. We go from "farm to table" in 20 minutes, just for the thrill of eating it minutes after harvest. You can't buy that at the supermarket, or the farmer's market! Best wishes for a bountiful harvest of corn!

God Bless y'all both! Nobody realizes what at workout a garden can be unless they've actually had to run a tiller or hoe the rows. It's amazing how tired you can get and the new muscles you can find that you didn't know you had! Lol! My Granddaddy had a big garden and I remember him using the old tractor and the tiller on it and everyone else out there hoeing it behind him. To keep the deer out of his big garden, he planted a pea patch on away from the garden and half tended it for the deer to eat. It helped keep them away from our garden! Ms. Tipper, the easiest tool my Great Grandma had to work with was a hoe that a friend had cut the blade of it where it was in a point shape, like a triangle. It was small, pointed, and very accurate. Maybe you can have someone make you one like that. Sending y'all Love and Best wishes from Memphis!~

I hope we both have better luck than I did last year! I grew acres of it growing up, but never put my hand to it as an adult until last year. I planted about a 4'x8' patch so it would have a better chance to germinate. I planted them in a 6" grid, about 100-120 stalks, half indian corn and half silver queen. And they were going along pretty as could be, until one night it comes up a cloud and the wind was so bad it blew the whole stand of corn down. I wound up harvesting ONE SOLITARY EAR!
Last week I decided to try again with some heirloom popcorn I was told is named Amish Purple. I'm praying for gentle winds this summer.

Maybe instead of a gazebo, you could build/plant a grape arbor? It would provide nice green shade and fruit, too. The house my parents built, where we lived until I was six, had a grape arbor and it was lovely, especially when the grapes were ripe.

That’s a big cornfield! It’s great that you can use a tiller in it. Can’t wait to see you guys eating the corn!

So sweet you are doing corn!! I got "called out" on a local garden page for my choice of fertilizer. I'm 66, not doing bags of compost anymore. Thanks for being honest about good fertilizer you use.

I’m so excited about the new garden! I was wondering if you could show drone coverage of the layout of your property, including the big garden, grannies house and Corrie and Austin’s house. Thanks for the video! Love you guys.

The corn will usually pick itself back up. Our corn was blown down on the ground and looked terrible. The next day the sun came out and it stood back up beautifully.
    Loved the video!!
That new grandson will be arriving soon, and I'm so excited for y'all. ❤❤

You could make a little shade gazebo that could double as an outdoor kitchen. Can’t wait to see it grown🥰

Tipper, if Matt had jury duty or something to where he couldn't work the equipment, would you be able to do it, you think? I know youve been around this stuff your whole life, but Ive never heard you say one way or another. 😊
By equiptment, I mean the tractor, or tiller or heavy machinery.

We plant hickory king corn. It’s my favorite fried or on the cob. My husband likes to be in the garden early. Best time of the day.

Had our first corn on the cob for supper tonight. It was decent, but not like right out of the field. We have a condo now and we sure miss the garden we had 5 years ago. We now have a few tomatoes in planting bags on the patio and they look good. Bush varieties seem to work best in bags. They were out of the Cherokee Purples at the green house. We did get the last German Johnson they had. Love y'all.

A big garden for sure is a lot of work but the bounty sure makes it worth it , my job when I was a kid was hoeing the tomatoes and potatoes, I remember that I hated hoeing.

Yall need a little spot cleared out in that creek to just lay down in it, to cool off after you work the garden. Wouldn't that be a treat? A popsicle while you lay in the creek. That's living LARGE!

Silver queen used to be what our local farmer's grew to sell along the road side. But now it seems like they are all growing bread and butter. Either one is fine with me. Cant wait to see how it progresses up to harvest time. I am so happy for you guys.
