Because we gotta talk is usually used for a small problem however the corporate speak could mean ”your productivity is down by 2%” or “YOU’RE FIRED!!!!!”

I don't really get why the Ella Willis one was in here as they were just talking about their experiences and there's a lot more employers could do to reduce uncertainty and support Autistic people.
Seriously. Not everyone with autism is going to experience it to the same degree, and I hate when people who have it discredit others who have it because "it doesn't affect ME that way". Like, it doesn't take a lot of effort to add some context to what a meeting is about.

I lost braincells in the "give headphones to deaf people" because I am PRETTY SURE that not being able to appreciate the usefulness of a gift does, in fact, make it useless and stupid and what was that guy even on about...
At the very least he'd be giving them the inconvenience of passing the "gift" on to a hearing relative or friend to avoid throwing away a perfectly working piece of electronics. Imagine that conversation. "Hey bro, some creep saw me talking in sign language and gave me these headphones. I wanted to punch him but he could run faster than me. You want them or should I just see if I can return them at a store?
If I was deaf, and someone handed me something that requires you to have hearing to use, and they *knew* I was deaf, I'd have to fight so hard not to hit them.

My boss once set up a meeting alone with me titled just "discussion". Nothing else. And my brain went into full panic mode, thinking I did smth wrong or that I might get even fired.
In the end I had to ask him the next time he showed up in my office, wtf that meeting is for. And it was just about what projects I am working on and about future projects.... Thats it.

Yeah, I thought it was weird that that post was considered lunacy. If you're the one scheduling a meeting, *you know* what it is for. Tell the other person ffs. It's the same when you're in a relationship and your partner says "we need to talk later" but gives no context. It's just bad communication no matter how you look at it, neurodivergent or not.

Okay, that Ella Willis post spoke to me in so many ways. I have had those feelings at work many times before, and, as an Autistic person as well, I can vouch that these are emotions we go through with the unknown. Like, will I still have a job? Did I do something wrong? Workplaces absolutely need to be open about what a meeting is about beforehand.
As an autistic with ADHD, I also agree with all the points by Ella Willis @4:16 made, but they were missing a really important reason for supervisors/employers to be transparent regarding the context for a meeting: union/legal representation & preparation of evidence/information needed for meeting. Not only should supervisors/employers respect the necessary accommodations of their employees, but they should also respect their employees TIME & LABOR RIGHTS.
As an autistic person with bad anxiety, I think 4:11 is totally reasonable and valid. Something thats a small inconvenience for one person, could be a reason of a meltdown to another and it doesnt mean any of these experiences is more valid than the other. Ella handled it really well imo.
Ella's experience was completely normal, what she described was not symptoms of autism or anxiety but symptoms of being called to a meeting without knowing what it's for, almost everyone would react the same way.

Yeah I wasn't really a fan that this was chosen for the Emkay video out of a sub called LinkedIn Lunatics. Whose picking the materials for the hosts to read recently? There've been several posts shown in the videos recently that have kind of surprised me with how meanspirited they were, even if the hosts didn't necessarily deliver them that way.

@@fruitystarstar949If that's an option. Not everyone can do that for financial reasons, or they're in a place with poor access to services. The alternative is to try to use strategies that work for us to see if they help. Having something is better than nothing.

For the person with autism, I think that's a normal reaction to being called into a meeting from a higher up. Just overall anxiety of what it could be and if you're fired or not. Don't think its limited to autism.
Anxiety and fear of being fired is normal, yeah. I think they were referring to an overwhelming and uncontrollable reaction/meltdown. For example, I got called into a meeting once to be spoken to and was never told what it was about. Going to the meeting wasn't just nervous. By the time I got to the office, I had sweat stains under my arms because of how heavy I was sweating. My heart was pounding so hard that I could physically feel it in my chest, I had a cold sweat all over my body that dripped off my nose and I started shaking viciously. It was embarrassing and I did everything I could to try and calm down and be a grown up, but I wasn't really having any luck. I tried to talk to the manager about how now wasn't a good time for me to have a meeting, but they forced me into the room and shut the door and began bombarding me with things I'd never been spoken to about before, then threatened my job about it. I remember the whole room tilting to the side and then I was hyperventilating and trying to get her to understand that now wasn't a good time to continue this, but instead she just started openly mocking me for what was happening to me and told me she wouldn't feel sympathy for "someone like me". She was also angry that I didn't have immediate answers to any of the problems in the meeting that I had no information about before. And that was held against me in my work performance.
I feel like the post was more referring to situations where the lack of context directly affects their emotional regulation, and how it takes five seconds and very little effort to just, add a line of context to the meeting.

I had so many meetings at my last job that I had no idea what I did to get dragged into the meeting. But when I was wanting to discuss concerns I had, I literally had to make it sound like life or death because any of my concerns weren’t taken that seriously. I got meetings about my attendance after I was off for a few weeks because of an accident outside of work. I got a meeting because I wasn’t playing nice with the rest of my team when I was mostly out of everyone’s way and I at most would be saying hey, maybe do this.

what ive learn, and what some deaf people said: Deaf people can enjoy music, but they experience it differently than hearing people. All sound is vibration, so the deaf and hard of hearing take in music by feeling it. I think headphones would help with that.

You typically do it as a CHILD while growin up though. Most average people don't need to do this as an adult.
People in job like fire-fighting or rescue are actually thaught that, sure, because they deal with constant stress of life-death situations. If you need the same level preparation for your office job, there is something wrong with it.
14:10 This dude is not only wrong, but what he's saying is the complete opposite of reality. The more stress someone deals with in their life, the harder it is to deal with further stress. It has a cumulative effect that changes brain chemistry and physiology. Chronic stress causes anxiety, as well as physical health problems. Often people that have breakdowns at small stressors have multiple major stressors in their life and the small thing is just the straw breaking the camel's back.
If this dude has no issue responding to small stressors like a flat tire without being bothered at all, it's because he doesn't have real problems or deal with any sort of real adversity. Which means he's not resilient, he's privileged, mediocre, and boring.
This tracks very well with my experience.
There's also the consideration of what individual people do and don't consider stressful. For some people, a new project at work could be stressful, for others it could be a welcome change of pace. I find that often people can't relate to those who are stressed by things they aren't.
I was with you until the very last part. That's literally not how it works, and I believe @hmnhntr there highlighted it perfectly. _Everything_ can be a real issue to someone and something else quite literally doesn't have to be an issue at all to somebody else. The kind of mindset you show in that last part makes me worry that you might be kinda ignorant to others possibly not perceiving things in life same way as you do - Which is not only negative to yourself and others but also not healthy, if it is the case. Before saying anything else though, I do wanna say this also: I do acknowledge that different levels of issues in life exist, and for example a flat tire is not the same kind of issue and not as serious as say, struggling to get money for living and having something to eat at your table every day, both of these issues are still very much real issues and people _can_ and _will_ react to them differently. You can not expect everyone to be the same and tell others that "they don't have real problems". They are indeed resilient because things that would surely stress or at the very least upset most people do not affect him - He is likely to be thinking about things not in the heat of the moment but calmly and logically during particular moments others might find stressful that he does not. And no, it doesn't make him "privileged", "mediocre" OR "boring".

Independent of being autistic or ADHD, supervisors and managers will use "We gotta talk" in the same non-emotive tone for both "You're fired" as "We're giving you a raise". At least a little more context beyond "We gotta talk" is thus the minimum a good boss could provide.

It's almost like those plenty of bullies who think being bullied builds character. No it doesn't. Sure it can and will make you grow. But it will also cause immense pain you could've avoided in the first place and learnt that lesson on your own. Unnecessary stress is even worse. Because if stress wasn't bad then why even bother diagnosing people with chronic stress disorders or anxiety disorders? As someone who has pretty bad anxiety rated to taking the train to some places in my city or outside because I'm autistic it's not fun. It's not nice to ocnsntantly wonder if you're on the right train or if your ticket is correct or if you're not missing your stop. Man using trains is fun! But being that stressed about the idea of getting yelled at for not being at the right place with your ticket is so tiering. Most people would kill to have a stress free life and live until they're 100. But no we got gray hairs at 25 wondering if we can even survive the next day.

Some can be partially deaf). And I bet this guy gets angry when someone in the vicinity wants them too and the deaf guy gives them to them. Like: "You're supposed to give them back so I can give them to another deaf person!"

Take it from me ---- someone who _constantly_ goes to new interests, hyperfixates on them for days, then dumps them because all the dopamine runs out and it just ends up feeling like a chore. This is my experience for _hobbies._ Jobs are way worse for it. So yeah, you _do_ need breaks to do other stuff.
