- Scars Above is a thrilling experience and one where you never appear to be at an unfair disadvantage if you learn the patterns and have the dexterity to switch weapons at the right time. Science, harnessing the latent biological advantages of an otherwise hostile world, and learning are key themes. Despite not being what you would consider a triple-A title, Scars Above is a very competent one and is extremely fun and challenging to play.
I barely scratched the surface of the many skills you are able to unlock by collecting the glowing purple cubes you encounter, and left the preview really wanting to know what the next weapon was going to be, and to have a crack at some more of the well-executed boss battles and menagerie of creepy alien blighters.

This Scars Above preview is based on hands-on impressions from a press trip to Serbia. Accommodation and travel was provided by the publisher. The game is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X in 2023.

Great game. I’m playing it for the first time and am halfway through and loving it. Really amazing boss fights and great alien designs. I love the obvious nods to Prometheus and both the Alien and Predator franchises. A lot of love was put into this. Even the SCARS name is a nod to the STARS from Resident Evil.
Why did this game go completely over my head until 6 days to launch? Where has it been hiding?

It hasn't gotten a lot of press, at least I have seen VERY little for it. I just randomly stumbled a trailer for it a couple months ago.
I remember seeing an announcement trailer at the game awards or some event, but you’re right it was never up for preorder and didn’t have much of a marketing budget leading up to launch. I picked this one up though. We need more sci fi games and 40 bucks is a good price of admission here for me.

Heck no, looks more similar to Returnal and tomb Raider. Horizon zero Dawn is not a survival game and is very colorful / vibrant
This looks nothing like HZD. It's more like a mix of Returnal and Remnant from the Ashes. If you think this is like Horizon, then you can't have played many games.
