      ME! He always lived a healthy lifestyle and took care of himself. Didn't smoke either. He's a trumpet player and tootin' that horn takes a lot of breath and stamina.

    Jack Benny always made himself the butt of all his jokes. His TV show skits show off his skills the best. He was a very generous person, and much loved by many in Hollywood, itself an accomplishment. He died within a couple of weeks of his last appearance with Johnny on the Tonight Show the year (1974) following this appearance. The whole country grieved, his funeral made the national news. Also, his humor was very ‘dry,’ he wasn’t after the guffaw, but the grin and chuckle.

      It's so sad when I see this and think Jack would be dead just a year and a half later.
      He should have had another 20 years like his best friend George Burns.

    Look at Johnny's tie! It's wider than than his head.

    • @msr1116
      @msr1116 Před 5 měsíci

      This suit is at least of a solid color. The wide tie and lapels were the style in '73. A year later Carson wore plaid suit jackets, sometimes with matching trousers and it was sensory overload. The clothes wore him. It was just too much and !looks embarrassingly dated now, but it was in style back then.

      Only difference is back then, public opinion changed with new information. Unlike today, where followers in cults of personality deny, don’t accept information and don’t change their beliefs.

      Benny was like 80 years old in this episode. And was Johnny's hero. He would die in 1974. Johnny wasn't having him on to slay the audience at this point he was having him on out of respect and admiration. The Tonight Show itself was a bore much of the time. Especially when it ran for an hour and a half, they would just sit there smoking cigarettes and muttering.
