#GhostInTheShell - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Visually nailed it. Story wise they blew their opportunity to do something unique.
Same goes for Alita
It was unique, the story is different from the original.
@@PSD-ms8yl I get what you mean, but it actually ended up being less original compared to the original film because it made it more like just any other action movie. Actually, this movie _should_ have tried to be way more faithful to the original movie and even tried to add more from the manga, and just made the complex plot a bit more easier to understand for more people using a longer runtime, that would have been the best way to go.
The script writer for this remake is on record saying he dumbed this movie down because he said mainstream audiences wouldn't be bale to handle it. Basically he admited that he believes his audience is stupid.
It isn't the best movie ever, but don't think it's a bad movie. Seen far worse adaptations.
@@zhizn_snake
And they added a garand ping to the reload lmao
Honestly this movie is visually stunning, the tech is accurate, and Scarlett as Major didn’t anger me as it did others. The problem with all of these Hollywood live action attempts is the story. For some reason they see a title that has a huge, loyal fan base and they muck it all up. If they made a movie the real fans could appreciate it wouldn’t grab the casual viewer. I still enjoyed the movie but I wanted and still want more.
She isn't even a good actress. She's stiff, and very unathletic. They needed somebody far more athletic to perform proper movements that convey agility.
That's the only reason I want to see this movie, for the visuals. I'm not putting too much stock in how faithful they are to the Manga, which by the looks of this trailer looks like they took significant liberties with.
They dumbed the story down so much. It ruined movie for me
LOL For some reason, people love to shit on the live action that was a good adaptation of the original movie(s) but you all keep praising the animated pile of crap that they keep releasing so don't make me laugh, please...
@@Bee-tj8gc
How did they "dumbed" it exactly ?
Visually, they did ok, they got some of the core scenes done pretty well, it just falls apart with trying to force a romance, where it was never about love, it was specifically about SENTIENCE. The Puppet Master wanted to prove it had all the trappings of sentient life , the fact he could not reproduce or even die, it made him feel he was simply just a line of code, to which all intents and purposes he was, But what if he wasn't ? By trying to ' Merge' With a human consiousness, could he actually prove and show that AI was just as equal to biological sentience ?
All of this was lost on the Live action version, then you had some middling action scenes, and with not alot of the dialog or scenes carrying enough weight it was a trudge towards the finale.🤐
“Visually they did ok”?
Shut up man, the Cgi in this movie is flawless. Bitch about whatever you want but the technical aspect of the movie is more than just “ok”
Ironically, the original movie's story _can_ be seen as a love story. Or more like a "strange futuristic marriage story". Even the song Making of a Cyborg's lyrics are about a wedding. The puppet master says it all in the end - it was looking for someone to join with to become something more, and it specifically sought out The Major as the perfect partner to do so, because it knew Kusanagi was having the same kind of thoughts.
With Batou in the picture, it's even kind of a love triangle, lol. In the end he supports and loves her regardless of her decision. But in the original, Batou's love is much more reserved, quiet, and comes off as way more platonic.
@@zhizn_snake yea it could work if they leaned into that angle a bit more, i think was more apparent in the blade runner movies
Super! Thank you very much!
I love this movie
The original animated movie's version not only had 100 times more impact and emotion, but even visually it looked more real and powerful even though it was 2D animation and not 3D animation... and did it over 20 years earlier. I love how in the original, the major actually fails to open the tank even though she tries harder than this and ends up even more damaged by her efforts than in this version. It's a travesty that just because this movie was American-made and is live action that it made multiple levels of more money and way more people watched it.. I'm just thankful that at least some of those people went on to watch the original afterwards.
The original anime scene is ten times scarier.
Then watch the anime 🤷

Bad guys can't shoot straight, even if you're a super advanced AI robot.
It's just soooooo sad that the amount of work that went into this movie went unnoticed at its review resulting in it tanking. If some watch this as a non-fan of the Ghost In The Shell lore, they will absolutely love it. But because I come from the very core of GITS manga and classic anime series that is Akira level legendary I can see why this movie tanked. They completely failed to capture the essence and depth of this movie.
The deeper story of the original, the core of it, was lost on the script writer and they dumbed it down to a cheap love story. IMO because the producers didn't trust their audience enough to follow it, or maybe the director didn't have enough of a grasp on how to convey it. I like the movie, but I love and rewatch the original all the time. Its a ride, with places for your mind to explore, whereas the live action version is just a story. The director "tells the story" instead of "showing the story". Villeneuve could've done it justice. Or maybe Adam Kane.
The nonsensical whitewashing wasn't even half of what's wrong with this "movie" the problem is It was absolute trash.. no plot tepid action the most WOODEN almost seemingly intentional phoned in acting I've ever seen.. bland lifeless cinematography.. they got just about everything they could've gotten wrong wrong
The only improvement being the minor change to the "tank setpiece" where she rips the unit off to save her "brothers" life.. &even the execution on that left a lot to be desired
@@jeremyfenix8078 Villeneuve actually wouldve been the perfect scribe for it.. as it is one of his favourite non western sci-fi fictions (he even inserted design elements from GITS into his BR2049 architecture)
No, it tanked because the movie is completely white-washed and is honestly a trash rendition. Everything about it is underwhelming garbage.

so good actor.
It has ScarJo and it is based on one of my favorite animes of old. enough reason for me to love this movie adaptation.
Scarlett is always rocking 👌👌
Don't get all the hate. It was a ok movie. It's not top tier but good one time movie.
I guess people just like to complain.
You clearly missed the point. Ghost in the shell is Akira-level legendary. The problem with this movie is it looks to the fans of the franchise like it was made by people who didn't understand the lore that's why it wasn't received very well. As a standalone movie, yeah it slaps but as a ghost in the shell movie, I can see how much of an insult to that brilliant innocent it is. It is shallow compared to the mindblowing plot twists you will find in the GITS universe.
People defend their fandoms this isn't an original work so of course people will complain if it doesn't match their expectations.
Downplaying that into "people just love to complain" is pretty ignorant.
It's one of those things you'll realize when Hollywood shits on adapting something you enjoy.
Yes, they do.
still waiting for the sequel to this and LUCY ...cmon scarlette!😘😘😍😍🥰🥰
We will never get one thanks to the people who love to shit on the movie for no good reason.

This movie is crazy 🤩🤩
I just finished watching the 1995 movie and I noticed that the movie is 1 year younger than me lol I'm old.
Both movies are good ngl, I like how they went fir Scarlett Johansson for the roll of Major Kusanagi.
you should watch "ghost int the shell 2: innocence" from 2004 aswell, its only with batou and togusa but the major has a big cameo towards the end of the movie . you may also reconise some scenes from the live action movie aswell since the live action is a mix of the story of these two anime movies and the stand alone complex series.
yes, indeed..
The M1 Garand ping is very unsetttling to hear coming from ejecting a magazine.
The fundamental problem I had with this movie is that it doesn't answer the question "WHY does this movie exist?" It's the same problem with most remakes.
What was the point of this movie? Meaning, what did it do that the 1995 Animated one didn't do at least as well, if not significantly better? I can't name a single thing.
There's no real improvement in the setting, graphics, or sound production. The script is worse, as is the dialogue. So what was the point? From a business one, it's obvious that the point was to make more cash on the reputation of its predecessors. But from a film-making standpoint, there's nothing to recommend this over the prior one.
It's not a *bad* movie. It's just a *pointless* one, because the 1995 version exists. If that one hadn't, then this one would be reasonable. But that's not the case.
Its called milking the franchise for money. Thats the reason it exists imo.
Weeeeeeellll, not everyone is into anime. This brought the concept to an audience that enjoys sci-fi movies on the mainstream, but who are not necessarily into animation. Same with when AKIRA will eventually be made into a live action flick. It broadens the audience. I love the original very much, but it''s not something my partner is into, however, they really enjoyed the movie with a recognisable hollywood cast.

OK, I'm 53 & have no knowledge of the anime referenced in one of the comments, but I really liked this movie. I also don't have much to steal but would love to have a spider tank yard guard.

This isn't a bad live action version at all, but much like the whole movie, it just misses something. The overall vibe / atmosphere and especially the music just isn't there. It's a nice action scene but doesn't feel like more than that. The original story itself isn't really anything THAT special, especially by 2023 standards - so much has been said and written about the theme of transhumanism since 1995 - but the presentation was always top notch, and means the original movie easily holds up as a classic today.
this could have been epic, but of course hollywood had to dumb it down, making Motoko's search for nature of humanity and her eventual trancendence into a family drama...
The Thumbnail somehow got me here lol

Part of what made the original anime so amazing was that it was animated; the visual worldbuilding, the selection of color palettes, the *detail* in the images... knowing that it was animation and not CGI or live-action added a LOT to the experience. As for the film, if one looks past the Whitewashing issue(s), anyone familiar with the original runs face-first into the rewriting of the story into something that, in the end, was a DIFFERENT story. They came so, so close with this one... but meddled with the wrong thing and no amount of spectacular visuals can save a screwed-up story.

Blows my mind how a director captured this movie almost practically shot for shot
this movie may not have been liked by hard core fans but I still think its incredibly good and well done for what it is. lots of movies with source material often don't follow it, a lot of it is about creating your own story while still being true to the source. if the harry potter movies don't say anything about this tip. even the lord of the rings follows this route. somewhat.
I watched the original animation series. I think one issue with this movie is "compressing" too much into a single movie and also a few memorable scenes were put into the movie in an awkward way.
Hardcore fans were indifferent, it was the twitter activists who've never heard of ghost in the Shell who were angry over it

I didn't think it was awful. I enjoy Michael Pitt, and of course Scarlett is never a bad watch. I think most people's issue was that they felt it should have been Japanese actors in the main roles. Which, okay, sure. I get that. But it didnt' make it a *"bad"* film because of their ethnicity.
Dhijjoj
I thought the film was pretty great. You could say the same about live adaptations of attack on Titan which is clearly European in its architecture and design yet was clearly played by Japanese actors. Nick fury was originally white but was then played by Samuel Jackson. At least in this film there is a reason and when the major was human she was a Japanese girl. Shes in an artificial body after all
@@optchurch1402 That's so true. Good point!
No nothing wrong with casting scarlet as a western movie. The issue was it had poor pacing and forced romance sub plot, and weak action scenes until the end, things like Batou's eyes looking goofy. It was too dumbed down ,

Never watched never will.
The movie wasn't too bad, it really was just the same as the Anime, they did try with the story but I think the problem was we've already seen it.
But to anyone who wanted to see it live action as I was it was a good movie, the visuals were great and the acting for the most part was good so for anyone who did enjoy it I am just stating my opinion on why people might of not liked it.
No, it was a different story. Worse. And how they picture it was worse as well. Too much cheesy talking while the original was done in a poetic Blade Runner-like style.
@@deltabadger_official true though it was visually appealing, much like that of blade runner, as well as the sound design too, and music composition, and scenery, but as for the story it seems they just tried to stitch everything together and also add in random bits, kuze for example isn’t displayed like this in the anime movies iirc, overall i enjoyed it for the things i listed above.
@@dream8870 Yeah the sound design was great and the visuals but I agree with you on the stitching, it's like they had a story but they needed the same shots as the anime just so the audience knew what they were watching when they could have tested knew things but kept the look, try out new things but I guess we'll never know.
@@deltabadger_official If I never heard of GITS before this would have been epic to me. But I do and I see where the producer completely missed it. They tried but they missed a lot of the essence and the lore could never be told in one movie. It's deeper than that.

It was a really cool movie, and many of the scenes almost perfectly recreated what was shown in the anime (which was inspiration for "The Matrix" released just a few years after the anime), but in live action. I wish it had done better at the box office.
There's just some things the artstyle can add with cartoons that no cgi or film ever can. The movie wasnt bad but far from the original.
Do not ever never compare books and comics with movies. Its not the same and will never be. You dont compare a live concert with a node book
They really blew it.. the sound design and pace was so much better, it had big silence moments dream like rhythm.. this is just cgi tank make lots of boom

TL;DR: If you’re a hardcore fan of the manga and 1995 animated film. You won’t like it.
If you are a casual fan or someone who doesn’t enjoy anime or couldn’t get into the manga or anime version of GitS, you’ll like it.
As with most film adaptations of fictional works that have a dedicated fan base.
As a GitS fan, I don't think it's a bad movie. I can see why people who have never had the pleasure of watching the original movie or the S.A.C. series liked it. My fundamental problem with it is that it's wholly unnecessary as an entry into the GitS franchise, and a poor adaptation to boot. If they changed the story a little bit and branded it as "Spirit in the Can" I'd be like, "hey, this GitS ripoff is actually pretty good." But they went ahead and made a GitS movie and I don't know why, or how they managed to make a mildly enjoyable blockbuster out of a profound masterpiece. This is a major step-down, so you can imagine why a lot of people were upset. I mean I know why they did it - money, but I don't agree that's a valid reason to make an adaptation, especially of a work of such caliber. There's not a lot of ways you can make it better, and an infinite amount of ways you can make it worse. And that's exactly what happened. The fact it wasn't a bad movie speaks more of the source material than anything - they made many mistakes adapting it, and still managed to produce a decent movie.
That's not true so don't talk for everyone. Thanks.
I thought the cartoon Stand Alone Complex sucked. I prefer the US live action movie. Never saw Arise

完成度は高いが実写にする必要が無いし、実写化してはいけない作品。
People who got angry over the casting don't understand the setting. Major Makoto Kusanagi was not only a cyborg, her physical body is long dead, she's just a conciousness inhabiting a robotic body, like an A.I that doesn't even know if it was once human. Anyone could play her as they'll just be playing the body she's currently inhabiting.
Not "anyone", her cyborg body is the one of a WESTERN woman, that has been confirmed a long time ago. There's no way that you're a fan if don't know that and claim that anyone can play the Major. 🤦♀️
The one thing I liked about this movie is that the cyborg had a human brain. I do not believe an AI can function the same as a human or other actual lifeform. The soul, or ghost, comes from life. It's part of all living creatures, except bugs like flies. They are God's little irritating robots. My feeling for this comes from a friend who died, saw his body, returned when he was brought back to life and told me the story. Though both the movie and actual MANGA movies were great and entertaining, which they should be. I can see the author pushing his idea, totally valid, and I can see the movie's version. I don't lose sleep over the arguments. So fruitless.
hate to say it, but, with all its inconsistencies, this film had a more satisfying ending than the original anime version
