The term comes from video games and these NPCs have specific things that they are programed only to do (some examples are: specific voice lines in response to specific actions, monotone voices, fixed reactions, etc)
So this this case the old man, even though the guy in the video said not to touch the sweater he proceeded to touch it again, and then when told where the sweaters were he proceeded to move like a robot over to the section.
