Magic line or Polish line route at 6.20 seems like a very adventurous but extremely dangerous route.

Every route is dangerous, few are more dangerous this is why very rare climbers attempt from other routes, Abruzi is most common and considered bit safe

@@ExplorenExped i agree all routes are dangerous. However abruzzi is not as steep compared to this route or the north ridge from Chinese side. Both those routes are very steep and avalanche prone. Last summer so many climbers including 2 ladies from Pakistan, 1 from Bangladesh and 1 from Iran sumitted from Abruzzi route.

Let me ask you a question. When so many expeditions climb one after the other do things get easier ? E.g. the first expedition may lay a well defined fixed line which subsequent expeditions can utilise to their advantage?

It's probably overall the hardest 8000er in that the easiest route the Abruzzi is still pretty hard. And you supposedly can't climb the east face at all (at least Everest's Kangshung face is doable). Annapurna has more fatalities but that's probably because of being more avalanche prone

The Abruzzi Spur was predominantly pioneered by Americans, in 1938 and 1939. The Duke of Abruzzi in 1909 only made it to 21,000', didn't even make it to the crux 500' above, House Chimney, which was first surmounted by Bill House in 1938. In 1939 on the second American Expedition, Fritz Wiessner and Sherpa Pasang Lama reached the highest point yet at 27,500'. The Italians in 1954 simply followed the already established American route another 800' to the summit.

The worldviews that separate us are many; none being as profound than that separating those of us who live to challenge ourselves, both physically and mentally, and those who, by their very nature, are risk averse.
To fear death is to be human. To fear life? That’s a mind killer! Some of us long to experience that which the legendary explorers felt when they sailed around the world; conquered foreboding mountains; flew an airplane across the ocean; walked the ocean floor; took the first steps on the moon…
I wonder if humankind could exist without a fare complement of those who yearn to go faster, farther, higher, deeper - or simply, ‘go first!’

I think the dotted visual line you have for the NW face route is incorrect. I thought it started on the Chinese side and then basically veered off shortly onto the North ridge and then on to that hanging glacier on the north face.
Also, the NW ridge route of 1991 actually barely touched the ridge. It's my understanding they too veered onto the north ridge then back on to the hanging glacier on the north face. The NW ridge has barely been climbed as I understand it.
