Princess Catherine is keeping the Queens torch burning, by wearing the items of jewellery the Queen particularly loved. She hasn’t laid claim to them, as of course the new Queen Consort to the King will wear certain items. But our New Princess of Wales had the Queens blessing and also travels and represents Great Britain at the many functions she and Prince William have to attend, both here and abroad. Her Majesty loved wearing her jewellery, and during her lifetime often loaned Catherine certain items to were at official functions, how we know the Queens love for Catherine, we know how pleased she will be that her jewellery is going to be continually loved,worn and treasured in her memory, I can’t think of anyone who could do more justice to have access to wearing these precious items, and ensure they will be as loved and treasured as Her Majesty did. Maybe this channel will be live from the event, they usually broadcast the first part of the event, when the royals arrive and then the speeches. Takes around 20 minutes or more, it depends.

I'd love to see them in something different. There is a possibility they may think it is too soon to appear wearing some of the more iconic tiaras, though. Eventually, I'd love to see Camilla wearing either the Queen Alexandra Kokoshnik or the Vladimir with emeralds, and Catherine wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. I'm hoping for something else at the State Banquet, but well aware they might show up wearing their old standbys the Greville Boucheron Honeycomb tiara and the Cambridge Lovers Knot.
@@therealsophiemary It was actually quite common for older pieces of jewellery to be designed so they can be worn in several different ways. Brooches doubling as choker clasps, tiaras that could be taken off their frames and worn as necklaces, pieces of tiaras that could be worn as brooches etc. etc. I know Diana did take advantage of this versatility. I'm not so sure what she did with her personal jewellery, but those that were on long term loan from the royals I suspect she wouldn't have been allowed to alter permanently. And yes, Queen Mary did repurpose a number of pieces over the years. She wasn't the first. Queen Victoria and Queen Alexandra did as well. Even the late Queen has. Her current ruby tiara has diamonds that were taken from the Nizam of Hyderabad tiara when she broke that up in the 1970s. It had been a wedding gift. Back to Queen Mary - some of her alterations I think improved the pieces enormously. The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara was originally topped by large pearls, which seemed to have been quite the fashion for tiaras made in the late Victorian/Edwardian eras. She replaced the pearls with the diamonds that are on it now. The pearls are now being used in the Cambridge Lovers' Knot tiara. She's also the one who altered the Vladimir to take emeralds as well as pearls - something which makes it even more versatile than it already is. The Queen Mother altered the Greville Boucheron Honeycomb tiara by having some extra diamonds added to the top to give it a more interesting profile. It was initially flat on top. Again, an improvement, but I do wonder what Mrs. Greville, who bequeathed her huge jewellery collection to the Queen Mother, would have thought.
There probably are an awful lot of single jewels that could be refashioned in the royal collection. I'm not so sure how much Camilla would alter anything, but perhaps Catherine will someday.

Queen Elizabeth made everyday seem like a special occasion. She could be sipping tea in the garden and it just wouldn't be complete without the pomp and splendor of sparkling diamonds and colour coordinated outfits.

I dont know, but l would think some of these pieces belong to The Late Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth and some were state pieces. I think The Queen Elizabeth dressers, would have a catalogue of all pieces so they could choose which would be suitable for each occasion.

So many of them are Crown Jewels and loaned to Catherine, not given. Are there any that are personal gifts to her from ERII?
The Crown Jewels in the tower are not borrowed. The loaning program is from the Queens personal collection which is kept in a large vault beneath Buckingham Palace.
The late Queen was always good about lending out the pieces that she didn't wear too often herself. Unlike Camilla, Catherine didn't have a large collection of jewellery when she married into the royal family, so was more likely to be seen wearing a loaner. Camilla had pieces she had inherited from her mother, along with ones she had acquired over the years, and Charles seems to be the type of husband who enjoys choosing jewellery for his wife. That gorgeous pink topaz is one example of that.
It will be interesting to see who wears what in years to come. Camilla will be the one who will end up with those pieces designated as heirlooms of the crown, or are otherwise part of the royal collection, and she could of course choose to lend them. The ones that are up in the air are the ones from the late Queen's personal collection. She may have chosen to split them up among family members, but there is also a good possibility that a good portion of them will be left to the royal collection for the use of future royals. She'd be well aware that many of the jewels left to royals out of the main line in years gone by ended up eventually being sold. That goes for ones that were left to Princess Margaret by the Queen Mother, as well as to the Kent and Gloucester families by Queen Mary. I'm hoping she protected the more iconic of her personal pieces.

Some of Her Majesty's jewelry belonged to her personally.......the older and the more valuable jewels belong to the Crown and are locked up.....the Crown Jewels can be worn by members of the RF for state occasions.......but I understand that her Majesty left the Princess of Wales her own personal collection knowing that it will be passed down the line through to Charlotte and her children.......Naturally Princess Ann would have her first choice and got the favourite pearls and engagement ring........
