- Neurosis' Steve Von Till and Scott Kelly discuss the invisible force that drives their band, requiring a lot of physical and spiritual energy from them and wreaks havoc on them if they don't oblige. They also talk about a few years when "shit was really crazy" on stage, with gear blowing up, serious injuries and electrocutions. They also explain why it's hard for them to soundcheck or practice. Interview conducted August 2, 2017.

Neurosis opens the Portal. There is some heavy energy being channeled when those guys are performing. Its not a regular "rock show" Neurosis is Transcendent, so much pain, so much loss. So cathartic to have such a heavy emotion dump by the band and the crowd as well. Neurosis shows us a path to hope through all these cycles of damnation. There is no other Neurosis, you instantly know what band is playing. STRENGTH AND VISION.
what do you think about amenra?
I love the concept of Neurosis as it's own enitity that keeps working whether the band is doing anything or not...it's a monster....
These dudes are fucking weird. I'm sure it's why their records are usually so amazing. That double record they did with Tribes of Nurot where you were supposed to play both disks at once blew my fucking mind.
That was back in the days when it was really, really hard to play two records at once. You very much had to want to do it.
I remember that. 'Grace' & 'Times of Grace'. My friend had both discs & two players & some hook-ups & a CD burner, & he ripped me a CD of 'em both playing at once. Wicked shit..
There are also Tribes of Neurot records that you're supposed to play on four different record-players at once, & aim the four sets of speakers at yourself from North, South, East, & West. Good luck pullin' that one off. Ha!
The NotSoGuitarGuy I wouldnt say their weird but to make the type of amazing music they make, sanity probably takes a backseat.
The Flaming Lips did that gimmick way before these guys did.
I fucking love these guys and thier music, thanks for this interview, Brad (and anyone else on Aggressive Tendencies!)
Thank you very much! There are a couple more segments coming. I just need to finish tagging, etc. Cheers!
Good interview, surprised this doesn’t have more views. These guys have depth that speaks to me. I feel this.
Thank you so much! It was an honour speaking to them. The conversation bordered on uncomfortable based on how intensely they felt about everything and the weight of what they said.
I remember hearing Through Silver and Blood for the 1st time 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 to this day I'm still in awe. Wow. Both of these gentleman are so articulate and super mellow. It's hard to believe that the raw, unbridled power you see on stage comes from these two. Amazing.
I feel my existence when this band plays. I hope they always go forward. I wonder is Scott Kelly's wife okay? I remember she had something rare happened to her.
Very honest interview
i love these guys
That Force Scot Kelly talks about, that energy that wrecks havoc on you if you do not give it its due is the Daimon that drives all creatives around the world. I’m a writer, my work is no way near the high raw power of a Neurosis album, but my own Daimon wrecks my life if I do not put in the hours and produce the work.
I love Neurosis. I probably don’t listen to them as much as I listen to other bands, but that’s because they’re special, and only listen to them on certain moods. For me, they are like Tenhi, a folk band from Finland that I only liste to during the cold months between November and February, in the northern hemisphere. There’s something very raw and powerful about Neurosis that I don’t find in other band, and I don’t know what it is… The only other band I can think of that reaches a similar effect is Swans, both in is early incarnation and the post 2010’s incarnation.
Love The Great Muta shirt.
From an outside perspective, yet connected as a whole, engaged as a listener, I get it... Wish I understood it more... This is Truth... But for sure.. I get it.
Their music makes me feel like I'm walking through dark city streets with just the sound of the wind reminding me something out there is watching me something out there is hunting me.
The percussion!
Like he says about music and art as an energy release, way better than shooting people up.
best band
Wow. Mindblowing stuff. May we see the whole interview somewhere?
Almost the whole thing will be uploaded here. There are a couple more videos coming. The only thing missing really is my questions, but I didn't really cut much (if anything) of what they were saying because it was all so profound.
Si, claro....
Que la fuerza te acompañe y cuidado con el reverso tenebroso¡¡¡¡👻☻👻☻
that great muta shirt is the bee's knees, baby
me too ...in my music
This is exactly what is the main focus of my book about buzzoven . Cause we rose and then dived straight down . The Chaos is coming all around us .Things are growing with tech especially that we will be just like China soon. Telling everyone how they live. I think all intense and amazing bands will be made to look tame in the coming downfall of everything.
Snokes origin CONFIRMED
Quick, someone tweet at Depressed Darth and tell him!
the black sun
shut up and take my money!
The comments on this video are shallow and disappointing.
wtf, is this an image thing or are they crazy?
EggersMcBraiden Maybe they sold their souls for rock and roll.
EggersMcBraiden What specifically crazy about any of this? I’ve been watching and listening to them for over 20 years and they’re completely unburdened by image and expectations.
They seem to be tired on this interview. Maybe this is after playing a gig? They can be pretty intense.
There's more lively interview with them out there, but they're generally pretty chill guys.
What? Shut your school boy ass up lol people in the real world aren't always cookie cutter as fuck like you
Please don't breed.
Dislike.
