I bought a pack of Steinhauser this week. It was less than £4.50 for 6. I’d not only say it’s the best value lager but up there with the very best lagers available in this country. It really is quality. If it had a top brand label on it and a big marketing budget it would be selling alongside the big boys no doubt about it. Such a shame that the big UK brewers are ruining famous brands in a race to the bottom quality wise, and reducing ABV’s while putting prices up. Love your reviews, keep up the good work - Cheers! 😎👍🍺
What's better value?
Couldn't agree more....fed up with the lowering of ABV and quality...keep buyin the Hauser! Although when I first got this I'm sure it was 4.9%
@@DavidB-py8nzMy wording wasn’t clear. I meant it shouldn’t really be judged as a best “value lager” but one of the best of all.
I've never bought as much beer from ALDI before as I have this last couple of weeks after watching your videos 🤣 the wife says you're a bad influence 😆
I'll definitely try this, its good there's alternative options available, now the massive breweries are ruining brands like Becks, Stella!
They're only ruining it in Britain. We've always had the worst produce in the world, not enough sun and our water is full of shit! Our cabbages and root vegetables are quite good tho, and the sprouts are to die for come winter. Brexit has made things worse because now it costs twice as much to get the good beer out of the EU.
I remember you reviewed this beer back in 2015. My goodness 8 years ago already. Great revisit and review Si.
I was drinking this last weekend and I came on CZcams to see if you had done a video on this beer and couldn't find one. Here it is a week later! I actually really enjoyed drinking it.
I've been drinking Steinhauser since I was a teenager thanks to my bargain loving Dad mostly. It's only in the last sort of 5 years I've really appreciated how good it is. Cheers another great video mate 🍻 hopefully everyone won't rush out and buy this now or I'm gonna struggle to get some 😂
You will remember that it used to be 5%
this week an offer 20x0,5l for 8euros Hasseröder
Very nice description of the ber Simon. Glad you can get a decent 6 pack for a reasonable price there. I am keeping an eye out for the Paulaner Wheat beer you reviewed when it finally comes back to my local Aldi in Oz. Cheers!
Another great video and beer recommendation Si. Recently subscribed and been enjoying your town breweries playlist. Loved the Tenby breweries trip. At 30.32 in that video you showed a view up into Bridge Street where on the left is Number 2 that use to be the PRINCES HEAD pub in the 1700's/1800's and the old wrought iron pub sign hanger is still visible set in the wall. Later it became a private house and I know this through my late mother in law who was born in that house in 1928. It had its own cellar and backed onto the Lifeboat pub.
Mate I love you. This package of videos is wonderful! When a brewer in DAB (Radenberger) pisses in the bottle after a night out is still better than anything brewed in Uk with sticker CONTINENTAL PILS/LAGER. Absolutely a bargain and really good. Cheers man and again thank you.
Steinhauser is great. For my money though I think the best is aldis current incarnation of Rheinbacher. It’s changed a few times over the past few years, but the current 4.5% version I think is one of the finest pilsners available at the moment. I prefer it over the likes of krombacher and paulaner.
It’s a shame that Aldi have fiddled with it so much in recent years there’s no guarantee this great current version will hang around that long.
Great review as usual...I just started buying this recently and is now my go to lager.Fantastic quality for the money even though its now £4.99 for 6 bottles i will still buy it.
Was always a fan of Rheinbacher from Aldi but doesn't taste the same since they changed the abv and i prefer the steinhauser.
prior to your marathon supermarket lager video Aldi's 1897 was my go to beer, but i've been converted this is a great beer. Thanks for the tip off
Yep normally have a pack chilling, but not this weekend no, no this week it be 6 x 500ml tins of Tuborg Gold (£6 a pack) from good old Home Bargains.
I've been travelling to Turkey for years. About 7 years ago a Turkish girlfriend put me on to Tuborg Gold. Wow such great locally brewed malty refreshing lager. Many fond memories of hot days, hot women and ice cold Tuborg 😊😊😊
Thanks for that, will buy some tomorrow and give it a try. Great review.
You converted me too this Amber nectar.
I was a staunch Rheinbacher guy before
I just did the calculations and it is cheaper than your other beer, but not by much. The important thing is - it's better, as you say. Maybe also, you don't always want a large bottle. I don't go in Aldi even though they're close to Lidl where we live, but I might make an exception and pay a visit for this beer. Thanks, cheers.
I was drinking a fair bit of this stuff during the first lockdown. It was reduced to £3.69 for 6 for a long period back then. I've had a pack which didn't taste great (maybe had some exposure to sunlight) but generally they're very good. Brewed by Radeberger these days according to the bottle, apparently it was brewed by DAB a few years back
DAB is part of the Radeberger Gruppe, so probably it's still the same.
@@frankseyen9156 ah I see, probably no change then
You have convinced me to get some on my next trip to aldi.
Fantastic lager and brewed in Germany not like UK beer says it's a German lager but brewed in Wolverhampton or Edinburgh. So clean and refreshing. It's become a great fridge filler in my house, would happily drink this every day. Great review keep them coming.
I only recently discovered it after watching your marathon supermarket lager video and it's my default lager now. Only £4.49 for 6 bottles in England. Perfect on a hot summer's day. There's so many lamentable lagers these days, so this was a welcome find. Thanks for drawing my attention to it. Good work 🍺
Same
Its a great channel I am so glad I found this channel.
Made by Radeberger group. £4.49 in my town. Great stuff.
Totally agree! I buy this pack quite often.
Just discovered it. Top drawer. £6.29 now and worth every penny. Can't wait for the summer to quaff plenty of it
Love this I would love it if they did a keg as a one off
Cheers fella, I'll be stopping by to pick some up on way back from fishing today..
I am impressed with Steinhausser, I think it is brewed in accordance with the German brewing purity law. Not a bad drink. Nice fruity crisp taste. Only problem is that I have to make frequent trips to our local bottle bank LOL.
I've been sneaking in and out of your videos for a few weeks now. I have now subbed as It is good content and this review was very interesting. I will try these when I see them based on your review. If I like them, my local Aldi will need to increase the stock levels.
That is so funny. The comments on this channel make me smile. I have subscribed.
I've only recently come across this channel and it's great! I love the humour. I always look at my clock now waiting for beer O'clock. 12 cans of Guinness Original in my fridge. Keep it up!!!!!!!
THE CARBONATION MOVES AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE MOUTH, RELEASING MORE OF THAT FLAVOUR.
Tried this beer last night. Far nicer than the standard UK brewed beers. Will definitely be my goto from now on
I picked up a pack of 6 from Aldi following this review. Fair play Steinhäuser is one of the best lagers I've drunk in a very long time. Such a lovely taste, blows most other lagers out of the water and its cheap. £4.66 for 6. What a bargain.
Started on this 30 years ago thanks to my German friend, still my favourite, krombacher is my second place.Have seen the price rise a lot lately, reckon it was under £4 not that long ago.Sometimes a bit Skunky but I can’t find anything as good. All the UK brewed lagers don’t seem to be any good.
Green bottles = skunky
Always pick this up in Aldi, perfection ❤
Pre minimum unit pricing in Wales which isn't so long ago this was 2.99 for six. They were also 5%
Becks is my favourite bottle of lager, will give this a go next time im in Aldi☺️
These are great I think your supermarket battle brought me to these thinking about it😮
Will have to try this, been drinking aldi czech beers after your video
Nice review sir, 10 out of 10 for me, this my favorite lager by far, kronenboug too smooth as for Stella's new 4.6% dish water, Nuff said.😅
good review its just a shame its not hot this summer to really enjoy cold lager
I really like the Hopvil Strong from Belgium. 8,5 ABV. Never seen it in bottles though, only 0,5l cans. The regular one isn't my thing.
That's lovely stuff. Really clean, almost like old-school Becks.
I think my next 2 Ashes Weekends will be sponsored by Steinhauser.
Yes, like old school Becks. Good one.
I love the Reinbacher pilsner from Aldi. Real depth and body for 4 cans that are less than a fiver.
I just purchased a 6pack of steinhauser in aldi here in Ireland and it was 7.35euro which works out at 6.36 in pounds and i see a few comments saying they managed to get it under 4pounds in the UK. We are getting absolutely screwed here in Ireland with government duty fees on alcohol in supermarkets at the moment.
That's crazy. We've got the minimum unit pricing horseshit here in Wales but it's not as bad as that (yet 😨). How are they getting away with that?
Same here in Scotland....total BS...rip off supermarkets get the extra cash...wtf is that all about...doesn't stop folk drinking if they really wanna get sloshed!...Nanny state bollox and the same politicians are promoting Scottish whisky...total hypocrites!!!!!!!!
Hi I'm new to this channel and I will certainly give this a try. Have you tried the Sainte Etienne? What are your thoughts on this lager it's currently 99p for a 500ml bottle
I'll be taking a detour to Aldi tomorrow 👍🍺 sorry being lazy not to search but on your epic beer comparisons have you done battle of the Portuguese beers super Bok and Sagres?! Flying out next Saturday would love your professional opinion! 😎
Simon, Aldi do know how to make a lager! I go for that or Rheinbacher every week!!! For the price, best value best lager in the UK! And shows up all the macro nonsense up big time, especially with Carslver reducing the volume of its beers
Always seemed to bypass this one but might grab a box to do in
Been drinking this for a few years now, very fresh and quaffable. Aldi do a pretty good selection of beers, I particularly like their moretti rip off.
Still the best beer I the uk.
Better on cold winter nights in front of a fire
when I go to my in laws in Brandenburg, their go to lager is Radeburger.. as Germans do they buy crates of it. Be interesting to do a taste comparison. Next time I go, I will bring a bottle back for you. Its sold in brown bottles though
It is as dry as Radeberger I think, but more grassy. I'm trying to place where it is from. It could be DAB of Radeberger Gruppe, but it's not quite DAB Export.//
Asda had a good one..Feldschlossen...4 pack...was 4.9% brewed in Germany....vanished...came back as 4.5% brewed in France....totally different beer and a lot less drinkable...well done Asda!
Interesting to note that the beer that is always in your fridge,is in the much criticised green bottle
Hopefully there isn't much sunlight in his fridge 😀
I imagine the cardboard around these bottles protects them from light strike so should avoid 'skunkiness'
I went to Germany and was amazed older persons sat and drank pilsner in public places. They were not going for it just a different attitude. I think it is great personally.
Anyone here know if US Aldi carries the same beer as UK Aldi? Guess I'll go look! 🍻 Good review as always!
This beer is never in stock when I go to my local Aldi. 😥 Please post a vid saying it's garbage so I can get some ... haha. love your vids btw !! 😄
That's great value at its UK price but, here in Ireland, since the government introduced minimum unit pricing it costs close to €8 for a six-pack.
I'll have to try it. I'm enjoying Mythos beer from Lidl. 99p a bottle or 6 cans 4.99 330ml
Wow that mythos is about £8 for 6 cans in Lidl N.Ireland
Lidl version is always in my fridge...its lovely is currently £1.09 for 500ml in west London!
Whats it called?
Yeah what's it called mate?
It might be Perlenbacher?
Yeah it's Perlenbacher. Used to be fantastic when it was 5% in brown bottles. But it's nowhere near as good as this one from Aldi any more
I need to try the Aldi one. I've tried the Lidl one wasn't overly fussed
Hello Simon not sure if you've heard but unfortunately Aldi have discontinued this lager
I've been drinking Bitburger recently direct from Adnams brewery a fine drop, I've always passed on this thinking it was cheap UK brewed shite I'll give it a go next time round.
I picked up 3 packs of this yesterday.. Pretty sure it was £4:99 a pack.. Still good value though. Cheers! 🍻
Simon could you imagine that on draft in a beer garden!
Cant fault this lager very tasty and a good price....also had Brewdog Viense lager in Heron foods 89p this week
It's fabulous beer. Definitely the best value you can get out there right now.
How does this compare to the original Rheinbacher 5%?
Any chance of you doing a review on the new Red Stripe on the blade?!!! 👍🏼😁😁👍🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Good shout
@realaleguide it's nice in a can, but I've never had it on draught so should be grand. I hear it could be brewed in the Netherlands 🤔👍🏼
Steinhauser with that dry finish to me is a dead ringer for becks back in the early 2000s before it was ruined. I love a dry pilsner. Terrific value but it’s not better than warsteiner
Great comment.
Used to buy it with my brothers ID for my £3 pocket money when i was 15 might buy again
Looks very cold from the bubbles and fast condensation appearing. Personally I like 4-5 degrees for normal lagers. Strong beer, like the 10% plus beers I prefer at room temperature. Your beer looks to be around 5 degrees. Am I right ? Do I win a prize ?
Depending on the humidity level, I'd say you are about right :)
Not sure if you have done this but Marston's Pedigree Versus Bass?
Off to Aldi to get some of these.
On your recommendation, i bought a 6 pack of this .
Problem was i had a bottle of Staropramen first,
after that the steinhauser just tasted BAD
Hopefully you mean the proper Staropramen from Prague and not the piss they brew in Burton lol.
Aldi a number of years back were importing Berliner beers from Berliner, cracking pils
A good solid lager, very refreshing.
To be honest Simon i think anything better than drinking carling or fosters and i definitely know which one i would be rather drinking out of this or a can of coke.
Would be cool to see Steinhauser vs Becks, I haven't drank Becks for years but I'd imagine Steinhauser would 'win' now
Just having a Polish Tyskie 5% brewed in the. Netherlands. Whatever next?
This is good stuff
This is brewed by Radberger in frankfert which is owned by Dr Oetkar who make the baking stuff and pizzas
Love how steinhauser is getting some deserved credit.
Where is it brewed? I ask this because I bought some German blond beer from lidl recently that was brewed in Ireland 😢
He said it in the video. It's brewed in Germany... It's brewed in Dortmund by DAB....
Missus is popping to Aldi later, I've added to her list.
And 6 bottles of steinhausers on a Friday evening hits the spot just fine.
A bit more pricey in Aldi Ireland , around €7.50 ish
its 7.35 euros in my aldi
Happy to live in Germany where good beer is abundant. Like in Belgium, Central Europe.
Warsteiner????
Here in Germany Warsteiner is the example of everything what is wrong with big breweries cutting cost.
Never saw that beer in a german ALDI market. Seems it is just for export. The price per litre in Germany for high quality beer like Paulaner or Kulmbacher (the more expensive ones) cost between 1,50£ - 1,60£/ltr. What is the regular price for such beer in UK and why is beer in UK so incredible expensive?
Here in DE it is Schultenbräu? I only bought their Naturradler yesterday, refreshing..... And I know the Karlskrone Weissbier...Steinhäuser is exclusive for the UK and Ireland...Maybe because it could be Mixed with Steinhauser from the Bodensee...
Here in Wales specifically (Scotland too) they've instituted a minimum price of 50p/unit ABV, I think mainly to target the white lightning/special brew stuff alcoholics drink. Five years ago it was possible to buy 14 units alcohol, which you supposedly shouldn't exceed per week, for about £2.50; now that's min. £7. These Steinhaueser beers are priced at exactly the minimum they can legally charge in Wales (the six-pack is actually £4.49 in England).
Lovely beer this
Great lager, best of the best 🍻🍻🍻
Rossini all the way in Aldi 😂 best lager on the planet
That’s it I’m making a trip to Aldi 🍻
Was meant to go grab some of these this morning but I didnt wanna get out of bed! Will definitely give a go soon.
Ended up getting them in the end. Very good. Also went for the Rossini Reserve per your recommendat6ion on a previous video. Cheers!
I need to go to Aldi.
youve let the cat out of the bag now! there'll be a run on Aldi stocks
Greetz from 🇩🇪 we have cheap beer for 35-40cents 0,5l and every week an offer for a brand beer 0,5 ✌️between 40-55cents
330 Bottles are far too small for beer... sample size :( Good vid thanks :)
If this was sold on draft it would outsell carling I'm sure. But each to his own. Please try Steinhausser, at least give it a try.
I liked it.
Its a ace beer 👌
I'm going to Aldi NOW. Oh, it's midnight.
Is it better than Coors?
seriously? Muahahahahaha
