  • A young scientist is offered to investigate a hypothetical scenario: how will human society react if it learns that an alien civilization exists and has been in constant contact with us for many years? Over time, Vladimir realizes that this scenario is far from being as fantastic as it seems, and the significance of his research is by no means only scientific. At a crucial moment, the future of the entire Earth will depend on his research.

    This movie seems to be a hodge-podge of events rather than a continuous story. It's as if they made it up as they went along.
    Also, this theme of starting the world over again, giving the people to come a new and better world is pure fantasy. No matter how well it starts off, starting over will, eventually, result in the same sorts problems we face right now. It may take a hundred years, a thousand years or ten thousand years but that's what will happen. It's better to give up that concept and work with what we have.

      Depends whether we start over completely unaware, or aware of our past and how it played out. Contrary to the popular adage, people do learn from history. Just not in the childishly simplistic way that is often meant by the ones using that adage. We don't jump to the other extreme (like all becoming peaceful hippies), but we do adjust and tweak what we did. Secondly a lot of what we do is historically determined - change the history, change the trajectory. If we start over we could, for instance, forge a new mythos that will go on to shape human civilization going forward, for better or worse - but different none the less.

      I'm not exactly sure of your point but I'll address what I think it is.
      History is only _"changed"_ if we know for certain what it would have been. It doesn't matter what the trajectory seemed to have been at a given time. The reality is that particular _"course of history"_ was never going to happen. Nothing actually changed or altered that course/trajectory. Gradually or quickly. Whatever happened and how it happened is the reality of the history. How it seemed to be going is an illusion. The fantasy of how we think it was going and how it would have been if it not been for a certain event or movement.

      Open endings do sometimes have merit, but this film basically explains nothing. You have to fill in not just the ending, but every other part of the film too. What are the aliens and why are they doing what they're doing, for instance? That's what the lead character is trying to figure out for the whole film, and by the end of the film neither he nor we are any closer to an answer.

    Never understood why the trope of advanced aliens deciding humanity's fate is so common and deemed "good". Aliens in the distance past would have been just as primitive as humans yet presumably learned from their mistakes and rose above without being coerced or controlled by an external "superior" intellect. What gives them the right to do that to other emerging sentient species?

    • @SyahidanIbnMokhtar

So yeah it's either a dark forest and any species past a certain point has some drones out there killing anything that pops its head up or aliens would watch/influence the primitive species to help or protect themselves.

    • @ArawnOfAnnwn
      @ArawnOfAnnwn Před 7 měsíci +7

      Because the 'aliens' in these films are basically meant as stand-ins for god. The films are trying to get you to question god, without all the historical and psychological baggage that the concept of god comes with.

    • @ArawnOfAnnwn

      Also it's not that unrealistic. WE humans have literally done that to each other already. For instance, 'white man's burden'. Even during its heyday (and casting aside any moral qualms you have with the idea for the moment) Europeans knew they used be quite primitive as well back in the past. Did that cause them to not judge, look down on and attempt to change the 'primitive' cultures they discovered? No. So why is it hard to believe aliens would act the same? They weren't even violent about it here.

    Believers have come a long way from believing in nature spirit's to the concept of a single god." No....not reallly pagans and monotheism consistently murdered those who don't agree with their theological alignments......religion is the problem not which God said religions worship. Any and every religion believes it theories are correct and that their God is superior. Thus they think themselves superior over the "heathens" whom worship something or someone else. All religions leads to the persecution, judgment and damnation of all whom do not comply. Religion isn't about faith or God, its about control. It always has been and it always will be. If you dont believe me, then ask when was the last time anyone, from any monotheistic religion, admitted their "god" was inferior to another's God. None..............ever. the all powerful, ever present, and all knowing somehow requires your subservience and penitence.......laughable....what does perfection need from roaches? Not a god damn thing....

    • @tablescissors
      @tablescissors Před 6 měsíci

      Sure. But think about it. Does everyone in your family get along? Have you ever had conflict with a neighbor, friend, spouse, classmate, co-worker - were those conflicts ever due to the other person being unreasonable? Why was that?
      Now go deeper, imagine a group of people who believe they have certain rights over your physical form or even what or how you chose to think…you may very well resist.
      You can see that when these types of differences not only could cause conflicts on a grand scale, but will also leave humans vulnerable to exploitation. There is always someone who wants to remove your self of “self” and they may very well claim virtuous reasons. Some conflicts arise over resources too. These are all a part of human evolution and what’s more, arguably, animal evolution - on a simple and singular level, that grown male predators are often forced to seek out and form their own packs/groups/resources. So, it doesn’t take a complex mind to create conflicts.

    They really had something here, but that ending is bupkis. For starters, it robs the woman of her free will, although I was fully willing to see the protagonist reconcile with her (or not). Which is ironic, since the film then made an argument for INDIVIDUALISM vs COLLECTIVISM (which we are seeing more and more governments turn to, claiming altruistic reasons, while clearly exhibiting autocratic ones).

    That omnipotence paradox is a very old attempt to debunk rational, logical arguments that god exists, and it is not really good, this comes from an atheist. Asking "If god is omnipotent, can he make a stone that he can't move?" is basically asking if god can do things that god can't do. Illogical demands that are wordplay do not pose any limit to the concept of omnipotence. Thate are other better things that an atheist can ask, or present.
