Ah, so this is the movie Kojima ripped off to make the abysmal dork game death stranding.
Well I dont know about the movie, havent seen it and wont, but your conclusion at the end is slightly faulty. dont take it as offence but several examples in history proof different. take germany between 1933 to 1945 for example. Complete 180° change driven from outside forces.
