Lost Jon McClenahan Animation

  • The Tiny Toons episode "Looniversity Daze" had a few retakes inserted in its second airing, animated by Jon McClenahan (his involvement is unusual here in that this was not a Kennedy-animated episode). These retakes were, for some reason, lost when the show left the Fox network. All other airings, and the DVDs, use the episode's original cut.
A few of the McClenahan bits made it early enough to get into the original version, but one was redone. This creates a weird sound error when Hamton is heard slapping Buster while standing there doing nothing.
"Dat's my name, don't wear it out" is one of my favorite bits of McClenahan animation ever. It's a real tragedy it was lost.

Wow... what a difference. Encore's stuff is basically like AKOM and Freelance combined.
As for the Encore/Kennedy connection, when the time came for retakes/additional scenes to be done, Warner had enough of Encore and decided to send them to Kennedy. This resulted in Jon McClenahan's retakes for this episode, along with "Hero Hamton" having a few Kennedy bits that were clearly added to pad out the episode (like that brief jump-roping bit at the start, or Hamton begging Buster and Babs for help, the latter had Harold Duckett's work written all over it!)

I can't believe Warner would do that! John McClenahan's animation is 100 times better than Akom's animation! Ingrates!

@Wizard Dude Encore Cartoons was basically another name for Bill Hutten and Tony Love's studio, Encore Enterprises. Tom Ruegger stated t his. But yeah, Encore's animation on "Tiny Toon Adventures" is like a messy combination of AKOM and Freelance Animators New Zealand.

@@ZakWolf What makes that even sadder is that after three episodes, they did nothing else, ever.

@@wizarddudereborn457 Encore was still doing Buttons & Rusty specials, but after this they stopped doing animation in-house and began having them done overseas.

I love Sweetie's face at 0:57. It's a HUGE improvement from the inferior Encore animation.

The audio in one of the scenes is out sync.

I can kinda see why they redid the Sleeping Beauty gag. Two reasons, if you get my drift.

How exactly did they get lost? was the subsequent replacement just an unfinished film roll/video that had to be refilled later on?

Which do you guys think is the worst of the bad studios who worked on the show: Kennedy Cartoons, AKOM, Freelance New Zeland or Encore Enterprises?

Jon was the best Kennedy Cartoons animator aside from John Williamson, it's a shame these scenes weren't included on the DVD.

This is why DVD edits are bad. Seriously, if you hear closely on the 1st edit, you can hear the 'wobble' sound and the 'smack!' noise!

I don't think it was the fault of the DVD. For whatever reason, this episode's production was affected when Tiny Toon Adventures left the Fox Network in favor of others. The scenes were reanimated way before the show was released on the DVD.

The first & last look like a lame attempt to fix changing BS&P standards (which is funny because the last one might have made it worse). But what was the cause of the "don't wear it out" change??

What’s the name of this episode?
