- Hey everyone! In this video I show you how to add a silicon grommet to your Pit Boss or other pellet grill you may have. This is a must have mod if you use ThermoWorks products like I do. Hope this helps everyone out who had the same problem I did, with not being able to use more then one ThermoWorks probe through the factory hole provided by Pit Boss. Don’t forget to hit the Subscribe if you haven’t done so already.

Thanks I'll be adding that to mine. Keep up the recipes, especially love the full meals you do.
Thank you B W! This is an easy mod to do and it’ll save your probe wires from being pinched under the lid. I’ll have to get more full meal videos out then.
All I do is stick the plug end through the factory hole from inside to outside. Problem solved. No issues so far.
That’s and what you do! Plug them in to food and send plugs through the factory hole and into the smoker
I’ve thought about doing that too, brilliant idea and quick overview Paul!
Thank you Pickles! You should do this mod to your grill too.
That is an Awesome idea Paul! And thanks for including a link for the grommets! I think I will do this to both my pellet grills since they come in a pack of 2!
You’re welcome Kevin, I’ve been meaning to do this mod for a while now, just got the time to get it done. You won’t have to pinch your probe wires under the lid anymore once you do it. Hope you enjoy it on both your grills when you do it.
I've already got my grommets ordered :)
Excellent mod Paul! 🥩🥩
Thank you Carl, as always I appreciate your comment brother. Hope you have a great week.
Great idea, thanks
You’re welcome, thanks for watching and your comment
Cool 🤙🏾
You said in one of your videos you covered the back vents and added a smoke stack. How did you cover those vents? Thanks.
Were you put your probe through. Right above it is also a spot that I like to put my grate temp probe through. It helps me to know which probe is too stay put when wrapping meat. Don't know if this helps.
Great mod to the Pitboss.
Thanks LT
well done
Thank you Henry!
Beware of the little round hole in the grommet. I had to install a grommet on my old WSM, a pre grommet model. I got the pot probe through the little round hole ok. Went to take it out and tore off the head to my Maverick pit probe. Also it is advised to take a quick spritz of high temp Rustoleum paint to touch up the bare metal to prevent rust. FYI: and probe from Maverick is like 25 bucks. I’ve got my handles, 3 or the 4 damper knobs, the stainless lid hinge and the stainless door and gasket so I can get them installed on my WSM. Hopefully I get an extra pair of hands tomorrow, mostly an extra pair of eyes to align everything, I’ll be pretty much good to go. Next investment is the wheel and lock set from Cajun Bandit. After that maybe a couple new charcoal baskets. Then the gotta haves are done. After that comes the wish list for it. Just seems as though it never ends.
Where did you get the silicone grommet ?
Were you the voice for Yogi Bear lol?
I Like that idea.
Hey Corey, no I’m not the voice of Yogi Bear lol. Thanks for watching
No chimney cap? And what the heck is on the far side inside where the drippings are supposed to go??? lol.
Next mod cut a hole in the bottom of the fire box to add a slide plate to dump the ash from the bottom. That way you can open the slide, dump out the ash all from the outside without taking the grate, flame plate, and barrel plate out to get to the fire box and vacuum or hand pull out the ash. Like the Pit Boss 1150 Pro Series has.
Hey Ross, I think it would be more work to customize the grill for this kind of mod. It would make it easier if you could clean it out from the bottom without having to remove everything from the grill.
I actually did this for my 820 last year. I got tired of removing everything to do a clean out so I used a greenlee knockout set I borrowed from work. I bought one of them Bucket Head shop vacs from Home Depot. I bought a 1&1/4” high temp rubber bushing for the hole itself. I also bought a small high temp grommet/plug to plug the hole up when using the smoker. When I need to clean it out all I do is pull the plug, connect the hose to the bushing, turn it on, and leave it on for 1 minute and that’s it. Super cheap and easy. The bucket head vac is $25 and the grommet/bushing/plug is around $30 for all. I used a knockout set because it was free for me instead of buying an expensive tri bit. You can use a tri bit if you want though. Whatever gets the job done.
I clean my pitboss thoroughly after every cook and that requires taking everything out. When I first got my smoker I made jalepeno poppers and some ribs. I didn’t clean anything afterwards and the next day I reverse seared some steaks. When I was ready to sear the steaks I turned the pitboss up to max. Once it reached 500 I opened the sear plate and my entire smoker caught on fire due to the grease buildup from the previous cook. I wasn’t prepared for this so I had to run inside my house and get some water in spray bottle. By the time I got back outside the fire was almost out of control. It was coming out of the spout where the grease drips into the pan like a flame thrower. My best friend actually had throw his pit boss away because he went about 8 cooks without cleaning everything out. It caught in on fire and he couldn’t get the fire to stop even after he powered it off and was dumping loads of water on it. The grease buildup was so bad that the fire wouldn’t go out. It got hit enough where it burned the black protective coating on the bottom and eventually the metal corroded away. Moral of the story is I no longer leave my pitboss uncleaned between cooks. Take care of your pitboss and it will last way longer. So I always vacuum the ash out after cleaning the sear plate. So I personally wouldn’t make much use of your idea of a mod as much as I think it’s a brilliant idea. Also a little tip is grab a handful of pellets and place them in the fire pot. Makes for getting things going much quicker on the start up process
Mean this in the nicest way you sound like Yogi Bear.
It’s all good. I’ve gotten that a lot from comments in videos over the years now
Fu**ing brilliant. But were you wearing safety 👓 during the drill? I just drilled mine out just a little. Using the pb and thermopro.
Thank you Michael, I did wear my safety glasses when I drilled the opening bigger. I forgot to mention in my video everyone should wear eye protection when drilling this out. Maybe now you want to drill yours out a bit more and add a grommet to seal the hole up.
@@paulsq_ A point to ponder, after you drilled through the factory hole, leaving the bare metal, I think I would hit the fresh edges with some high temp paint, just as a little extra protection from possible rusting.
Big brain move Paul!
Oh you gotta be from Canada
Thanks for watching
A step drill...??? duh...!
