"Tar Sequence" off the 1967 soundtrack to the Paul Newman film 'Cool Hand Luke'. Composed by Lalo Schifrin who is famous for composing the 'Mission Impossible' theme as well as the soundtrack to 'Bullitt' and the 'Dirty Harry' films.
HOW THE HECK IS THIS STILL USED TODAY?! Seriously, even with the removal & resurrection of the dots, this hasn't changed at all!

Difficult to choose which I like best between this modern reworked "Tar Sequence" and Gari's "News Series 2000". I wish my local newcast in Detroit didnt ditch the classic music. They should licence this 21st century version! I especially love the unique way this one ends!
Wish Disney does the same for their O&O's like KABC-TV, KGO-TV and WABC-TV use the Australian edition of Cool Hand Luke

Well, that’s the thing with most Australian News themes. Want authentic Australian themes? Go for ABC and SBS.
ABC in the USA had to make a new news theme in the Mid 1990s around the time they merge with Disney to avoid paying high royalties fee to Lalo Schiffrins label.
